Well, if Cod Failed, the game industry would be infinitely better for it. Got nothing against CoD in particular, just thinking about the big picture. Without CoD the AAA game market might actually expand beyond shooting things mindlessly.

I'm afraid I'd like Modern Military Shooter to fail, for not being Spec Ops

The new DmC. The only way I could see myself okay wit the game is if it turns out to be the room of videogames. Everything about it is just terrible, from the story and characters to the gameplay. Though Laura and Dante do have something in common, they were too 90's and over the top fun so they had to be rebooted with 50x more dirt and edgyness.
I know it's not the point but that comic reminded me just how awful a character old Lara Croft is. I saw that and I got to the last panel and I momentarily struggled to understand how she'd ever survived. Do you know Nostalgia Chicks 'Strong Independent Women' thing that she goes on about? Lara Croft is the very worst of that. Okay we want to look at some T&A instead of the normal male dude, but that would be sexist. So she will be a Strong Independent Women. She must have no personality because character arcs and personality flaws are for guys. She will act like a ***** to everyone. She will be non-emotive (emotions are a sign of weakness). She will be cardboard.

gah that comic panel just somes up everything I hate about old Lara Croft. Look they even have the ridiculous pandering cleavage flash, the pouting everyone else is scum expression. To me that is a comic about how age makes us lose our love of life and the world strips us of oour hope and imagination until we become cynical and beaten and drudge through our every day lives. Forgetting in booze and moaning about how stupid the young generation are, because they haven't yet forgotten how to dream. Tell me that that's not secretly there

(incidentally remember the days when people complained about how DMC3 Dante was this young brashy dick who couldn't touch the coolness of old Dante. I bet people are wishing him to return now =D)

Or more likely it'd move onto another genre, saturate it, and we'd be complaining about that genre to the same degree as modern military shooters.

Too many I want to see fail. I can't believe how many series have turned into terrible directions (usually with the writing), or just became so commercial and simple that there is nothing unique about it any more.

Nope. I'm not petty enough to want to see a game fail just because I don't like it. Rather than wishing it would fail I just ignore it.
What this person said. You know what I do when there's a game I don't like? I don't buy it!!
For fuck's sakes people, turn off the hate valves, you'll enjoy life more. ...maybe.
No! I don't want to ignore every thing. If I believe it's gone to shit then I'll say it.

I find it petty to ignore corruption and these terrible tactics to increase their 'audience' while forcing more DRM or some other shit at the same time.

Pretty much any game that is marketed for people with more dollars than sense. I rarely get that wish though. People are stupid.

Every game blizzard has released in the last few years since I have a personal vendetta against them, and the drm on d3 pisses me off and it would be nice to see that kinda shit finally stop people from buying something.
You'll be happy to know D3 is actually doing terrible. Despite the large amount of people that bought it at launch, the sales began to dwindle quickly. It is already in bargain bins. Many people got duped into initial release but D2 maintained release price even past the expansions release it was so popular. The D2 Battlechest still maintains a $40 price point because it is worth it. D3 is being sold for half that and is 10 years newer and was recently released. There was no way it was gonna do bad out of the gate based on D2's quality, but overall it bombed.

I'm aware these guys have talent. But I want Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, games which are far too safe, unimaginative and mediocre as they are, to fail so that maybe they will squeeze out some new material. And before anyone suggests, no, a new way of controlling Mario, Zelda, etc isn't imaginative or innovative.
True that. I've played a few of the older mario's and some newer ones. They were great but im pretty much done with them now. Galaxy had a few good ideas but still not enough.

Yet people still buy the crap out of it. Its like another face to COD syndrome or something :/
I buy the mario games because honestly, its really hard to find more platformers that do the same charm effect marios always had on me. Some developers did it really well, i loved crash bandicoot, i Loved Jak and daxter. Even ratchet and clank was ok. But ya gotta understand..marios been the go to platforming guy and still kind of is. I play plenty of other stuff, but when i need a platform Itch scratched, i can depend on the plumber =/. Sorry. Same with Zelda and metroid, though the handheld castlevania games are taking priority over metroid a little, plus theres always depressing zelda/darksiders. Maybe its just loyalty? I dunno.

OT: Id Love to see CoD fail for one reason. Every time a new game with cod slapped on comes out, the community for many games suddenly vanishes completely. Its very depressing..

PS: yes i know, rayman origins and legends. I got that covered :3. Yay!

Metroid: Other M. It is the rare game indeed that actively makes me loathe the franchise and every character in it, but this is the most recent example that got me irked. I was so happy to learn that the game was a serious underperformer in the U.S. - I couldn't believe how badly the narrative / Samus herself were botched.

More recently, I've been hoping Dragon Age III will bomb. I kept up hope for a long time (I even defended the writing team when people slagged on them), but their recent behaviour shows they haven't learned anything from the problems of the previous game. They've all but admitted to planning day-one DLC for the game, and they seem to want to make it a Skyrim-knockoff. I honestly hope Bioware crashes and burns in the next year so their franchises can be sold off to developers who know how to properly handle them.

There is only one game I really really wanted to see fail. And it failed really really badly. Medal Of Honor Warfighter.
Medal of Honor 2010 to a lesser extent.
They trivialize war and demonize every country that is not the US or a complete slave to the US. Not to mention the only reason it was made was the success of Call of Duty which always puts subtle hints of moral ambiguity in the single player.
Battlefield 3 did the same and Bad Company 1 was a different take on it.

I was kind of happy that EA's new MOH failed. Not out of malice, but because I am hoping EA might finally get the message that they are not succeeding in copy/pasting other games and simplifying everything into "yet another action game". I am hoping they may start trying to have a bit of originality and remember games are meant as entertainment, not cash-ins.

If Mirrors Edge turns into a shooter, we will know that hope was in vain.

Hmm, where have they been saying that?

Genuine question as I was following the Bioware forums up until a month or two ago, so did I miss them announcing some stuff?

I do admit that I get tired of them [Bioware] clearly not learning from mistakes in their previous games.

being generally immoral about the whole thing...well, a part of me boiled into hot, white rage. Call me overly political, but that is not something I'd be doing, America. Not at all. Of course, my wishes were always going to be dumbfounded, because you just can't beat misplaced and delusional patriotism.
so because of some random video game of digital pixels, made in america, you blame all of america for something that doesn't actually effect you in any possible way...

right.
I'm not blaming America in general, and I am aware this is a game. But bear in mind that this game is supposedly based on historical fact - painting out foreigners as being the enemy because they're "evil" is just stupid. And then people play the game and accept it as fact. Considering the political circumstances around the whole affair and the fact that its corruption is never actually taught there, it is quite a problem. But we could argue this all day - certainly a lot of people have in Yahtzee's review of the game because he made the same point I just did.

But then again, I hope every COD game fails, simply because it would mean that the industry would realize that adding a new number is not as safe an option as thought.

The BSN, a hive of regret and self-loathing. Someone started a thread asking if there was going to be day-one DLC, and several producers piped up to say it was a strong possibility.

I doubt they'll ever learn - they're right past the point of no return in my eyes.

I kinda wanted the old republic to fail, not really because of the game mind you but because of biowares attitude before release, arrogance through the roof.

also diablo 3, i hope you people enjoy having drm in every single one of your games because that's what you're going get now.

I was going to post Elder Scrolls Online but after reading through some posts here I realized how selfish it would be of me to hope a game fails which a lot of other people might enjoy. Thus I'm going with the boring none answer.
