Ever wish you could wipe your memory clean of all your favourite games?...

...So as to experience them again in all their glory and to have them feel fresh again?

It occurred to me today how much I'd love to be able to play all the Half-Life games, Mafia, GTA: Vice City, the old Prince of Persia's, The Witcher, No One Lives Forever 2.. (+ endless list of games) without knowing anything about them beforehand.

Knowing whats going to happen and being already tired of the gameplay sadly kind of ruins subsequent play-throughs.

Assuming memory modification would be possible, I'd decline any and all such procedures on pure principle. I am who I am because of my experiences and memories of those experiences. Without a damned good reason, I would never allow my memory to be modified in any manner.

And, the game doesn't really have that reply value unless you know it's good. So, if I had to have my memory of the game wiped. I'd want to retain the memory that thinks the game is good. Just not remember what the game is about.

I would for some games. I think that after the dozenth playthrough (hey, I made up a word)some games do lose the spark that made you love them in the first place.

Some stay just about the same though. I think I enjoy the replay of Max Payne and MP2 more than I liked the first play through.

Some of the best games sadly rely on story and surprise. So when I'm reading the dialogue of characters word for word it gets a bit monotonous. So yeah.

This. I think I might accept such a thing for <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.135672>one game, but only because I played it relatively recently, and I don't assign much situational baggage to it. Every other one I either played too long ago or my circumstances had a profound impact on my gameplay (or vice versa).

Hell, for my absolute favorite, <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.128851>Tsukihime, forgetting about it is one of the most horrifying things I can imagine, considering how profoundly it impacted me, how nostalgically I view it now, and how many of my memories of Japan are tied into it.

Planescape: Torment... which is ironic considering what the game is about an amnesiac immortal. There is even a character in the game who actually wants his memory to be wiped so he can experience everything anew again. =D

After I beat the game again without my prior memories I would like my older memories of playing the game the bunch of times I did before so I can compare them.

That would be awesome. Only problem with that is that I would never stop playing certain games, such as Harvest Moon. I'd play it for two days straight, erase my memory, play it for another two days straight, erase my memory, etc.

That's a really great perspective. Yes, I would like to forget everything about every great game I've ever played. I wouldn't ever need a new game ever again if I could repeatedly wipe my memory of Bioshock.

for sure dude. to me, theres nothing like playing an awesome ass game for the very first time, because you dont know what to expect from it, and everything is so new and surprising to you. Oblivion for me is kinda boring in a way, because ive practically seen everything in it. the first time though, was the greatest

I would wipe all the GTA's from my brain and see how fresh GTAIV felt without having years of the franchise under my belt. Crap if I had this ability I could be fully entertained by one game and one movie for the rest of my life lol

Not sure. I don't think it's all that safe to play around with my brains, especially regarding something I like.
