... disgusted with Christians. I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but these days, what with Prop 8 and Chris Crocker, some of the pro-Christian, anti-gay comments I've seen disgust me as a human and ex-Christian. Some lady on Youtube said this, and I quote:

"What if my kid see's two gays going at it in a restraunt? What would I say when he asked me what those two guys were doing?"

I was shocked, just shocked. At first the post was all common concerned mother stuff, and at first I scanned over it, until it blew up my brain like a well-concealed land-mine. The thing was, she seemed sincere and probably was.

I pointed out to her that gay people weren't animals and they could probably wait to get a room before having sex, then I asked the obvious "What if they were straight, would it make much difference?". Apparently only gays would be "animalistic enough" to have public sex.

And this is one of the many anti-gay stories I have from my time on "teh internetz". What is with people and the hate against gays? Especailly a religon that apparently has tolerance towards everyone and would forgive Hitler for his crimes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was some shot-gun wielding, athiest, American, red-neck but a Christian mother? I'm just shocked and appalled.

Your thoughts?

"Well kid, they like to stick their schlongs in each other's pooper. Yup. I don't get it either, but there you go." Would be my answer.

Your thoughts?
Mostly that there are other threads already debating the subject of homosexuality and that I don't really see a point for this one to be made separate. Oh and...

Apparently only gays would be "animalistic enough" to have public sex.
Public sex is awesome. It's a free show!

It's an old, traditional religion. It takes a lot of time for organizations like them to change.

I have to agree.
The war between the pro gay, pro straight crowd is getting violent.
And this time of year when we are to love all our fellow men... pun unintended.

Do the "gays" still get called gays if they are both girls....thats a good free show
Well no, we refer to them as lesbians. I'm not really fussed either way. Lesbians would be a turn on for me, and therefore enjoyable. I find the idea of two guys sticking it to each other in public thoroughly hilarious, and therefore enjoyable.

For that matter, a couple going at it in public would be pretty funny too, though mostly for the reactions of the people around them.

Plus I could burst into laughter and watch as the guy shrivels up from self-confidence issues, thereby making it all the funnier.

Is it just me or do the bigoted Christians seem to be more prominent than the sane Christians or the bigoted members of other religions?

For fairness' sake, I'd like to point out that a lot of the bad stuff isn't actually "old" or "traditional."

For example, most of the crazy end-times stuff that passed as a "literal" reading of the Bible was invented in the 19th century.

Well, ignorant, intolerant. insulting, and generally mean people don't represent the whole religion. If you ignore them, they'll go away.

Sadly, I don't get this shocked by this kind of stuff anymore, after everything I've witnessed from those people thinking gays are evil just....fits them I guess... Much like stench fits a fresh steaming pile of feces.

Hmm, you have a point. I suppose I'd have to take it case-by-case on arousement, but considering the one lesbian I'm close to would fall into the "College Girls" camp, that's the one I associate with the most.

Though it should be noted she's changed from straight to lesbian to bi to straight to lesbian to bi to lesbian during the last 3 years in which I've known her, so chances are she's due to become straight again in a few weeks.

There's no need to bash other people's religions, you can't label the entire religion from talking to one person, which is funny because you're a huge hypocrite when you're doing the same thing as that ignorant mother by labelling people.

As a Christian, I get annoyed by the hypocrisy in a lot of the 'religious right'. Rather than representing the true message of Christianity, they blast off about things like this, abortion, creation, Barrack Obama... the list goes on. Sure they have a right to have opinions and express them, but to undermine the whole message with threats of violence and death towards their detractors is just pointless. The other problem is people not getting their facts straight, and blaming the 'liberal media' when a news article proves them wrong...

To summarise, please don't write off Christians because of outrageous comments like this, just like you shouldn't write of Muslims because of Al-Qaeda.

Disclaimer: I don't normally post on topics like this and I'm happy to discuss my views, but I'd prefer not to see them on FSTDT or similar...

Lucas113 good point. However because the majority of the populating is dumber than your average rock. We will always judge the many by the actions of that one crazy Muslim "Doctor" jumping around yelling "death to america" waving his hook around.

Just like we judge christians for that one crazy klan member preaching death to blacks, and wetbacks, and jews. We'll always judge christins by that standard.

Same way people judge the gamers because one of us at some point may have played a violent game, then years later done somethign remotely violent. The rest of us will get blamed by the worst example of our kind.

And It's wrong. Although I personally believe people should be controlled they should still have the right to fuck, marry, then no longer fuck whomever they choose.

No, the sane christians just aren't as outspoken, and know better to get into a shouting match with an entire crowd.

Most of the reasonable chrisians I've met prefer not to make their opinions know to everyone, but to single individuals one at a time.

There are other examples; We had to read "Sinners In The Hand of an Angry God" for english, and a good friend of mine refused to read it; he considered the entire thing a giant bash to the ideas of Christ. He and the teacher had a huge debate about whether or not the sermon reflected the ideas of Christ, which led to my friend (and most of the people in class) walking out on the teacher in disgust.

That, in turn, led to a big ugly mess, which nearly got my friend expelled. The people in charge at the school I went to aren't very reasonable people; fortunately most of the administrators are. One of our substitute teachers is an administrator, actually, and the first person who told me that the rules you follow at school aren't the rules you follow in the real world. They didn't object to my friend walking out of class the way he did, and (now this was a slap in the nuts) thought that it was mostly the teacher's fault, for being so unreasonable.

Here is an excellent application of Christ's teachings. There was an occasion at a youth church I used to go to; it was right after The Da Vinci Code (the movie) was relesed. Everyone was talking about how someone should kill Dan Brown because he's an enemy to God, and how they should just buy all the books and burn them. Our pastor, on the other hand, showed a short movie about several people gently explaining the false issues in the book (I hesitate to say lies, because the writer doesn't belive they're lies) and explained we should pray for this guy, because he clearly doesn't know what he's doing. Everyone realized how stupid they were being, and shut up about it.

So yes, there are sane Christians out there, you just don't know it. I think it's better that way, because they come in when you don't expect help. I'm glad to count myself amongst their number.
