Don't worry, I'm a crazy who still has faith the franchise could be made good again. Just don't get carried away with adding characters (I like some additions, but the Chaotix have got to die), really go back to your Genesis roots, and your story bases and influences should be Sonic 3 & Knuckles and the Adventure games (and if you do 3D, make sure they're like the Adventure games but without the treasure hunts and with better camera).
