Because it's slower than predecessor. And new hardware and software are about as compatible with Vista as putting the square block in the round hole of those kid's puzzle toys.

Edgy bandwagoners. No, really.

I used Vista for a long time before Windows 7 came out. I never had troubles. I was running all sorts of games on my desktop, then my laptop with it.

I seem to remember it having problems early on, but it was mostly fixed as of Service Pack 2. The people that still say it sucks have probably never even used it and are just trying to look cool and edgy.

Edit: And I am pleasantly surprised at the responses to this thread so far!
Not just edgy bandwagoners. It is proven to be slower than its predecessor. The early driver support was atrocious, and the security software is utter garbage.

Like most have said here, Windows 7 is just much better.

Windows 7 is better, and there's proof. The size of the service pack that is slated for Windows 7 is tiny when compared to those released on Windows Vista.

It's nothing like ME, that's for sure.
I don't know if any OS will ever beat that. So glad I never had to use it (I was always trouble shooting my friend's comp that was running ME).

I hated Vista but I only used it at the beginning when it first came out and immediately went back to XP until the Windows 7 RC, I'm assuming subsequent patches have improved it.

Running it on my laptop was slow and there were a ton of compatibility issues. Neither of which I had with the Windows 7 RC. So I think it's probably partly that there are some people, like me, who tried it when it first came out and dismissed it where it's now much better after patches and newer software.

Because it was incompatible, clunky, poorly designed, poorly implemented, and incredibly buggy. It put laptops back four years, and I'm still hesitant to give Windows 7 a shot because of it.

I actually don't dislike windows vista...

the thing is, they put in a million uneeded programs that are CONSTANTLY active, slowing down the system, along with the amount of memory the OS takes up.

The quick fix to make it work great (as I did) is to simply get rid of the stuff you don't need before you install all your stuff on it. :)
I've used Vista since 2007 and I've never had the need to reinstall it. However the slowdown you mentioned are a thing that I'm experiencing as well. Would you be kind to provide me with instructions on how to fix this issue?

The obvious answer is because its so unreliable and unstable. But why is that? What does the programing do so wrong?
It simply wasn't finished, they were just gunning for some cash flow.
That however didn't go too well, so they fixed it up and changed the label to 7, seems alot better now.

But apart from eye-candy I cannot see any major benefits over WinXP, and funnily enough everyone I know switched over for the pretty, just hillarious.

U see my friend, the problem is vista is the beta for windows 7 so every time they did something new for 7, they updated vista, so when u shutdown the computer has 17 updates to... update every week or sometimes daily, apart from the fact that it was made to compete against leopard and was made in 5 minutes and that, is your answer.
Hope I was clear enough.

People don't like change, and for those who weren't too great with computers Vista was a bit too different. At the hospital ward I work at Window's 7 was installed on the nurse computers and they all hate it because they don't know how to use it, their all used to XP.

Vista wasnt entirely bad. It is nowhere near the league of ME.

However, it wasnt as if it was not without flaw either.

Resources were the biggest problem. It was a hog if ever there was one. Between all the nonsensical process gobbledygook running to the way it optimized resources it was simply inferior to XP, and if a new OS isnt an upgrade in usability there is no reason to change.

Benchmarks were done, XP was superior in Ram Allocation, Network allocation, response time and basically every other statistical metric vista simply couldnt keep up. Honestly XP got so good that even Win7 couldnt beat it on most categories. (this is from the beta incarnation of Win7) With Win7s biggest allures being slightly better network optimization, better native USB host support, a snazzier O/S, a realistic introduction to a complete and better supported 64bit O/S and the capacity for something greater than Direct X 9.0c

Beyond that, I know I had thought if I got adjusted to Win7 that I would be able to handle Vista, but honestly theres still an akwards gap between XP, vista and 7

Now why do people hate Vista? Honestly, I do think that part of the hate is the resentment at project Mojave. Basically Microsoft saying "Hey, your wrong for hating vista, your just not giving it a chance, so Were going to spend marketing money to tell you how your wrong" Microsoft did NOT do much to endear themselves to the public with Project Mojave. Honestly Im surprised people forgave that enough to give Win7 a shot.

It's really not that bad. Windows 7 is better, sure.

The reason people hate it is because they still think it is what it was at release, which was a pile of gak.

1) As has been said, people don't like using new stuff when they're not interested in learning how - maybe one of the reasons I hate Macs; they don't do what I want how I want.

2) It had a TERRIBLE launch, missing suits of drivers, lacking support for many mainstream programs etc etc. By the time Win 7 was out so were the drivers, and generally if it worked on Vista it would on 7, as 7 is essentially an upgrade based on the same code.

Simples.

WHAT???

At least try Windows 7. I don't even...why would you...?
...

Oh...Ignorance.

Anyways, I had few frustrations with Vista, so I have yet to format my hard drive and upgrade.

Actually...I don't update. Ever. Disabling Windows Update is the third thing I do when I install windows, behind disabling UAC and logging in for the first time.

The only reason I installed SP1 is so GTA IV would quit bitching. If it wasn't for IV requiring a gig of pointless bloat that broke shit I wouldn't even have that installed.
Erm, you know a hell of a lot of the updates are security fixes? You're putting yourself and everyone else at risk by disabling updates.

And besides, I can't think of a single reason to disable them, the ones which aren't security fixes are driver updates, or they add functionality or performance.
