As far as I'm aware the main problem with Vista was when people upgraded their XP machines to Vista but didn't upgrade their RAM. So alot of people had machines that simply weren't powerful enough to handle the power hungry OS and decided this was all the fault of Vista. So it got off to a bad start and the bandwagoners made the problem worse.

Same here. I can understand why people who use computers for more specialised tasks would complain, but for your average internet goer and gamer it fits the bill.Ashcrexl said:

I have used both vista and windows 7 on the same computer, and I can say, hand on heart that I would go for vista. The programs that I use are done better on vista, and apart from that the Os' are almost identical. The only point windows 7 has in it's favor is, that it didn't completely fail (explorer wouldn't start on start up, and when I went through the tedious process of manually starting it, it would last about 15 minutes before crashing again), or at least it hasn't yet.
Almost all the complaints I see about Vista or either misinformed, or about "UAC" (that little box that pops up saying "are you sure you want to do this", whenever you try to do technical-y stuff).
Apparently some of these self-proclaimed "pros" don't realize UAC can be disabled in less than 5 minutes. I disabled it on my PC running Vista, and I must say, since doing this, I've found Vista to be much better than XP! Of course, I never really liked XP... (probably due to "stylish" redesign... I still use the '95 style layout for everything! I think if they ever removed the classic style GUI in a future version of windows, that'd be enough for me to switch to Ubuntu for everything... =p )
EDIT: Oh, yeah, it needs more RAM, that's the other thing. But it also supports more RAM. I'm not the sort of person who goes out to buy a new OS by itself, only when I get a new PC, so I never had any problem with this.
EDIT2: Actually I do have a problem with Vista, my ancient publishing and photoshop programs (Serif Pageplus 9.0/Photoplus 9.0) don't run that well on it. Kinda lags a bit. But that's not really Microsoft's fault...

Here is a golden example. I need to play CoD2 and CoD4 with a mic plugged in. So yeah Vista if a really fucked up system.
Well I've used Vista for 4 years now and I have had a few problems with it. It is reliable enough and easy enough to use, but I've had big big problems with the wireless networks. Apparently they were coded badly and our Uni wireless just outright failed to connect to any Vista laptops, no matter what other components and hardware they had. The uni tech guys had to take everyones laptops one at a time and do a bit of recoding, I think it was as simple as changing a single number in a single piece of code, but it's these kind of small bugs that are the problem with vista.
I've also found that it will flat out refuse to work with any scanners whatsoever, and on several of my friends vista laptops it cannot play any games whatsoever, but I have a different graphics card on my beast of a laptop so I can.
