Just played the demo, twice actually, first time failing hard, then i "got" how to parry.
(yeah....HD tv died, so on an SD tv...stuff is hard to read, circle or square, WTF?)
When you know how to time your parries, it's kinda fun, evade or dodge, even a block would've been nicer though.

Then again, Platinum games always have their own interpretation of control.
Maybe you'll get upgrades or sumtin' in the full game.

I liked it, reminded me of both Bayonetta and Vanquish, and cyborg Raiden is pretty awesome.
And i agree with Bliebblob, it DOES "feel" like DMC3 in a way.
(That's a very good thing)

I actually just finished downloading the demo now, so I'll be able to give an educated opinion on it soon enough.

Prior to that, though, I think it looks really cool. The only thing I was upset about is that they decided to have it be set post-4 instead of between 2 and 4, since there's a lot of largely unexplained events that occured in that time frame. Would have been nice to get some answers.

Well after playing the Demo I can say that it is a lot of fun chopping people into itty bits with a sword and I am really excited for this game. Also as other people have said no this isn't the end of the MGS you know and love in fact they are making a new one right now called Ground Zeroes. I still will never understand why people get mad that there are spin off games in a series.

I haven't played the demo yet but I plan to.

I'm excited, the gameplay footage I've seen looks crazy and a hellava lotta fun.

I'm new to Platinum Games and the Metal Gear series (although I watched the stories on YouTube) and I like the demo a lot. I wish I had a dualshock, though, the slow down-ninja mode is kind of clunky with the Xbox stick placements.

So, with the release of the demo of 'Metal Gear rising revengeance' what are peoples thoughts on the drastic changes in gameplay ? Do people agree with my thoughts that this could be the end of one of the most beloved stealth games on the consoles or maybe even the whole Metal Gear franchise ? or are people happier with this type of game ?

Personally (Not that you asked) I am so upset by the changes I have been waiting for this game for some long and I hated it so much I didn't even get past the 1st fight......
it's a spinoff mate. there's a proper stealth sequel being developed as well. I understand your frustration but it's just a spinoff set in the same universe. it's not like it's going to hurt the games any. If Ground Zeroes pulls the same kind of shit Splinter Cell: Conviction did as a part of the main series, then you may get upset.

Just finished playing it there, thought it was bloody fantastic. Blade mode will take a little getting used to, the fact that my left stick is kinda loose and prone to pushing the camera up during blade mode didn't help. Robodog was a nice little challenge but can be made much easier by doing the Ninja Run-->Triangle-->Triangle combo. Overall combat was brilliant and the areas seem big enough to have a reasonable wander around to sneak up on enemies and such.

Also, can't help but laugh at all the people missing the point entirely and just saying "BUT.......BUT.......STEALTH!!11!".

I am still downloading the demo (3,5 GB... really?), but I can tell you this: The interest I had in the game before it was announced that Platinum handled it was very small; after that announcement, it became one of my most anticipated games of the year. So, if your concern is that its not like previous Metal Gear games, you are barking at the wrong tree.

I enjoyed the demo, but I was not really sure about some stuff. I like the flow if everything is working as intended, but the lack of lock-on(and thus bad camera) and the weird placement of the block command did annoy me a bit. Why would you put the block on the same button as attack? I have the feeling you can only block when a enemy telegraphs his attack, but that is never made clear, so I was guessing half of the way. The moments it is working, is it great.

There is a lock on. Keeps the camera focused on the enemy and allows you to strafe around him easily.

Really? Hmmm, must have missed that. Glad that I was wrong then.

I utterly loathe Raiden, so I'm not interested. Frankly though, I don't think that this is "the death of the franchise", just because of a spin-off. It reminds me of the people who were getting so pissy about Silent Hill: Book of Memories. It's not a new direction for the series, it's just something different made by different folks.
However, one could easily argue that Silent Hill has been dead for a long time now, whereas Metal Gear hasn't really gotten to that point.

I played the demo yesterday, I took it for what it was, a fairly light action game featuring a minor Metal Gear supporting character.

It has no bearing on the series from my point of view and has as much to do with the real games as the Halle Berry Catwoman movie has to do with Batman.

It was cool to slice stuff up, it's an interesting mechanic and was fun to play around with it.

But ultimately, it's just a spin off, no need to panic.

Played the demo 4 or 5 times last night and was glad that I already had the game pre-ordered. As for all of the people complaining that it's "ruining Metal Gear" for various reasons including the relative lack of stealth: there was absolutely nothing "stealthy" about Raiden in MGS4. If this game starred Snake, that'd be a different story.

Ha! It always amused me when people said that they 'killed the franchise' by making Raiden ridiculously powerful; in response to the video of him throwing the Metal Gear RAY into the air and hacking it's arm to pieces.

That's with an upgraded sword and body. Back in MGS4, Raiden managed to stop Outer Haven, a COUNTRY-SIZED BATTLESHIP, with one arm. Heck, Outer Haven even had it's own version of Mt. Rushmore stuck on it.
