Metal Gear Solid
You play as Snake on a mission to save someone and/or sabotage something. Your boss was the bad guy all along.

Metal Gear Solid 3
It's a prequel starring the will-be bad guy from the first (two?) games. You kill the original Big Boss. Everybody likes this one.
Solids description is actually a better description of Metal Gear then Metal Gear Solid(but MGS cribs from the previous games so much it's not really much of a hit). That and the fact a major plot of Solid is the US government doing stuff that it really shouldn't have been and Snake was part of a cover up without realizing it.

Minor Quibble with 3. You don't kill Big Boss, you kill The Boss, who was Big Bosses Mentor/Mommy figure. But she plays kind of the same role that Big Boss does to Snake anyway.

Akshewly, Dark Souls? plot is very much discussed and speculated amongst the community. It?s convoluted and a lot of it isn?t objectively understandable, but that very mystique is a big part of the draw: in a fading age of gods and men, demons and dragons, might and magic, light and dark, things happened, are happening and will happen; you, the protagonist, are largely incidental and of nominal (if any) import until you impose your will upon it. One might easily call it lazy/poor writing, but another would call it a unique layer of player engagement, that the tale isn?t a simple one of ?beginning, middle and end,? but one of ?right now? into which the player must literally carve him/herself, ?you weren?t invited and it?s none of your business; this place isn?t giving an inch.?
Yeahhhh...see you say that, but this is the first I've ever seen anyone on the various forums post, that has anything to do with the plot. Granted I'm not digging into Dark Souls specific forums or anything, because I don't care about the game. But in the "common conversation", like on sites like this, or youtube personalities talking about the game and it's impact on the gaming culture, the ONLY thing that ever comes up is "It's fucking hard, like digital abuse level hard."

That's it.

And as someone on the fringe of this franchise, which is the whole point of this thread, to describe what details you have gleaned via osmosis, that's the "every man" appearance of the game franchise. All I hear is people bitching about how X boss was so hard, and I had to do Y to beat him" or whatever. Nobody is ever like "OMG the lore/story is so cool! All the details are great, etc. That's just not a conversation.
