So...many...'EVAR'...threads...ack!

Seriously, though, Dr. Suchong gets my vote, too. That guy symbolised the heart of Rapture, success at any cost without loyality, ethics or limit.

Hey guys. Thought this'll be my first post.

I nominate Shao Khan. They don't make villans like they used to... =(

Bob the Goldfish from Earthworm Jim would have to be more evil than all these other pussies. The guy is only a couple of inches long and can't leave his bowl but still he's hellbent on dominating the universe. Destroy! Destroy! DESTROY! Still gives me nightmares.

I'd personally go with Saren from Mass Effect, since he (a) thought he was doing something good for the universe, and (b) killed a whole mess of people. He wasn't pure evil, but that made it more of a complicated question when it came to fighting against him.
Sorry to be an arse but, Saren's a good guy that got his mind washed by the Reaper. He's pretty much just a pawn in the works of things. The Reapers needed to get someone to open the mass relay because the protheans stopped the keepers from doing their jobs to open it. If you tell Saren this he turns all good, see's that he was a pawn and kills himself. Don't hate the pawn, hate the playa! Word up. Oh yeah, Spoiler. A bit late but whatevr, everyones played this game by now.

Anyway, evilist guy. I still hold a long fear of Sander Cohen. Myself being an arty movie buff sorta guy, this guy strikes personaly close to home. He wanted beautiful art, different from all else, but that guy is an insane psyochopath!!

EDIT

Fleeches!! Who doesn't hate and fear the little worms with two mouths and tongues! Poor old Abe had to run and sneak through these things. One mistake and bamn! You're worm food.

Ok, it's more like villans than villan, but it's gotta be the reapers in mass effect being they have been the reason for every race becoming extinct and plan on wiping every race there ever will be. They are also the most successful villains as normally they get blown to bits before they have a chance to destroy your country/world/universe.

I'm going to have to go with Shodan. She considers herself so far above humanity that they are just ants to be crushed underfoot. Plus, she's the star of the games, rather than the hero.

On a slightly more comic note, in a cheesy bond villain style, is H.A.R.M, from NoOne lives Forever. They turn people into walking time bombs, demand such ridiculous things as a public holiday devoted to them, and then put smiley faces on their death traps ('You are now in H.A.R.M's way. Have a nice death :) )

Finally there's some nice evil characters in VtM:Bloodlines. The Tzimisce (the fleshcrafter guy making all the weird monsters) is a great example, but almost everyone is evil in some way (which considering it's a World of Darkness game is about par for the course).

Hmmm, the evilist ever. Is there some sort of villain that kills people with bad grammar? I am certain he would be right up there with the Count CAPITALIZATION, and his cousin the Duke of, Random; punctuation!?.
That's the one, especially with his assistant A-instead-of-e.

You in Rome Total War.

Think about it: You can slaughter whole cities in a fit of pique, purposely let them revolt so you can crush them and lower their populations. You can be the evillest bastard to ever live.

My nr. 1 is ganondorf (a bit in OoT but mostly in TP) i mean, he POSESSES ZELDA! Thats so freggin evil, to make you fight one of your loved ones. And then he appear to have KILLED MIDNA! Noooooooooooo!
My nr. 2 is then actually not an antagonist, but a protagonist: Kratos (God of War, Duh!)...
K, hes a spartan warrior who after some brutal torturing of some people (i'm not into the storyline) is punished by having evil dreams for the rest of his life... Then in the hope that his dreams will dissapear, he kills Ares (the god of war), but then they dont dissapear and he decides to go on a killing spree and murderes most of the gods...
HOW EVIL IS THAT??? couldn't he just go to a psycologist? or use sleeping medicine? i mean hes a god! "oh no i have bad dreams". I think he's just kind of overreacting.

Silent Hill (The Town)

I mean throughout the series, there have been evil people and people who go insane, but all of it leads back to silent hill.

This thread could go a few ways for me. I think a character's "evil" has less to do with their actual actions and more to do with intentions and motivations. Saying, "He tried to destroy the world," doesn't make him evil, as he could've been a good guy who was misled/brainwashed/stupid/etc.

I think everyone can agree that the most evil villain on record, I mean the guy without a single wholesome bone in his body, is Batman's Joker. Since he's been in video games, including games where he's voiced by Mark Hamill (my favorite Joker voice to date) does that count, or can we not count the knowledge we have of Joker from other media when considering his evil in games?

If we can't count backstory existing in other media, then I have no idea. Kefka is a pretty good choice (it would be awfully hard to pick another villain from that era, as so few of them had real personalities). Ganon isn't a bad pick either, provided you believe that selfishness taken to the most extreme is the same thing as evil. For me though... evil needs more depravity. Something utterly without regard for anything, even itself. Existing more as a force than a being, and a force whose only purpose is to violate the purity of others to no end but evil itself. Such a mindset is so overly cliche that it's hard to find in most games that give their villains back-stories.

Or not.

Seems I'm the only one here who plays World War 2 games, the biggest game villan obviously has to be Hitler.

This takes me back- my old common forum had this conversation every other day, usually with either Sephiroth or Kefka getting the most 'votes'.

Limited to Video Games, I'd jump on the Final Fantasy bandwagon and say Seymour Guado. Guy is powerful, cold as ice (fitting for his temple) and capable of backstabbing his way to the top authority of the Yevon Clergy Revolver Ocelot-style (who I also like) in spite of his mixed heritage. And this isn't enough- he wants to be GOD. So he can SAVE everyone. Indeed.

Not limited to games, I split my decision between the two Megas- Megatron (Beast Wars) and Megabyte. Both are similar in that they are metallic, machiavellian plotters who nonetheless have a few quirky side interests they indulge in besides world/system domination (Megatron's rubber ducky, Megabyte's guitar fantasy). Both had to deal with mostly incompetent underlings, and yet they both succeeded in their goals (rule Cybertron with an iron fist/rule Mainframe with an iron fist)! And the names of their voice actors even rhyme (David Kaye/Tony Jay RIP)! Hey... something's funny here, yeeeesssss...

I think there's a fair difference between an "evil Villian" and a "great villian". Great in the sense that they enhance the story and are enjoyable in their own right. Glados is certainly a great villian, but evil? Can broken code be called evil?

So, my evilest villian?
You in Galciv. Even a Saintly civilization butchers the entire populace of a planet when they take over.

Kefka didn't actually have NO motivation or reason, in Vector you learn that Kefka was one of Cid's first experimental magic knights, but the process wasn't perfected yet and something in his mind snapped. But whatever, he's still a damn great villain, one of the most endearing ever. Also, yes, he is the only villain I can think of on record (except for the Vogons, of course) who actually DID destroy the world.

And yes, BioShock has some great villains too. Fontaine and Suchong are obvious choices (although we do see signs that Rapture was already having problems before Fontaine came along, but he definitely deserves MOST of the credit), and, like Purple Rain said, Sander Cohen hits particularly close to home because I, too, am a pretentious art-movie buff. ^_^;

Smithy from SMRPG. He wants to destroy dreams and wishes. You can't get more evil than that.
Or Ramirez from SOA, if only because he's a complete asshole.
