Been watching EVO for some years now, and every year has been better than the previous, so I am starting to feel the goddamned hype!

There are so many things to look forward to! Will Daigo reclaim his former glory and at some point eliminate Infiltration? Will ChrisG finally prove he's the best there is at Marvel? And will he even enter UMvC3 at all?? How miserably will FilipinoChamp fail? (Spectacularly, I hope...)

I'm also looking forward to seeing Super Smash Bros. Melee, especially after the Nintendo debacle.

I'll be staying at a friend's house where we will be drinking and shouting our lungs out, as has become tradition. In other words; I am looking forward to this magnificent event, and I'm sure it'll be the best EVO yet!

1) No. Been watching for several years.

2) My friends and local peeps.

3) None. Every game is wide open. UMvC3 is about the closest to a sure thing where I'd be surprised is Filipino Champ or ChrisG didn't win. They're really good players and they've put more work into breaking the game than anyone else.

4) KoF13 top 8 from last year was fucking hype. I hope that this year can live up to that. I don't even play that game but I will watch the hell out of some high level KoF.

4a) Mortal Kombat and Tekken Tag 2 are my anti-hype. I'm really glad those games are day 1 and done. Mortal Kombat seems to have been largely supplanted by Injustice and I can't think of a polite way to say this but fuck the Tekken community. I'm almost positive that Tag 2 has the second fewest entries out of any of the main games and yet people would have thrown a fucking hissy fit if it wasn't on the register. If it's there next year then something has gone wrong.

Is this your first time watching EVO?

This will be the first time I have ever streamed it, but no, it's not the first I've ever seen.

Which game are you most excited for?

Mortal Kombat, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Injustice: Gods Among Us. I'm sure that KOFXII will be hype as hell again like it was last year.

Who are your favourite players?

Of course I love Justin Wong, that guy is so good... he does so well in every game he plays!
I admire ChrisG. Some people might dislike his playstyle in UMvC3, but he does it well, and you gotta adapt and survive if you want to beat him. Plus, he's exceptional at other fighting games like Injustice and Street Fighter.
I can't wait to hear Yipes' commentary on the UMvC3 matches.
I'd love to see Combofiend play again, but sadly that won't happen as he's working for Capcom.
Daigo is always fun to watch. Such a dominant player in the Street Fighter scene.

Any predictions as to who will win what?

I believe that UMvC3 Grand Finals will be ChrisG (since he's been dominant in Marvel this entire year.) vs DiosX (An up and coming player who won Curleh Mustache West Coast 2 in an incredible battle.)
MK Grand Finals will of course contain Perfect Legend (that's guy's a machine, I swear.) and his opponent I'm not sure until we see... but we can expect it to be an entertaining match.

What are your favourite EVO moments?

Won't be able to watch all that much of it but I should be able to see at least some of what I care about. Hoping for Chris G to fail to win UMVC3 again, because I get a kick out of him being the sorest loser in the history of the world <_< Rooting for Infiltration to win AE again because I have some vain hope that it will make people stop saying he's not that great.

I'm hoping ChrisG takes Marval and puts in his usual strong showing in every game he enters. I know it's not a consensus opinion, but I love the guy. The way he understands and plays any game he tries is, right now, unparalleled. People can whine about MorriDoom all they want, but in nearly a year no one has been good enough to consistently find a way to stop it. As soon as someone does, the whining will instantly stop. That's the way of the fighting game, from the scrub to the pro.

I also really hope Daigo can take SF4. With all of the focused training he's doing, and with the history he's had, it would really be a shame for him to get beat out again. Yes, he's not the undeniable champ any more, and I wouldn't be shocked if he retired soon, but I'd love for him to get that one last Evo win against all the new blood.

While I don't really care for Smash, I really think this should be bigger news than it was. After the Smash fans raised nearly $100,000 for charity to get the game into the event, Nintendo not only tries to shut down the stream of the game but actually wanted to keep the game from being used at the event at all. That's just beyond blatant stupidity.

I really do hope Daigo wins AE; he's my favourite player! I do have my doubts though. There are so many strong competitors in AE. I would have a hard time thinking up a top 8. I feel Infiltration will do well, but I don't think he will be this year's champion; he no longer has that aura of invincibility around him. Cammy is his weakness, and there are plenty of strong Cammys, such as Popi, Alioune and Xiao Hai, at EVO who are ready to take down the reigning champion.

As for F.Champ, he's going down! :D

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that KoF XIII finals would be played on Sunday. I'd say KoF XIII was the hypest game of last year, and I don't play KoF either. Bala's not coming to EVO unfortunately, so someone else is going to have to take vengeance for him. Someone's got to stop team CafeId!

UMvC3 is Chris G's game to win. But even as I say that I have my doubts. Just take a look at KoF XIII last year. KoF XIII was supposed to be "free" for Bala, but that certainly was not the case. MadKoF came from the shadows and took from Bala what was "rightfully" his. Anything can happen at EVO.

That's one of my favourite moments as well. It's so beautiful. The epitome of a comeback. I don't think anybody after watching that would doubt Justin Wong's place as king of MvC2. That moment is right up there with the legendary EVO Moment #37 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7cW2nMf1gk].

Whether Chris G wins or loses doesn't matter too much to me. Both results to me are equally hype. If he wins, I would marvel at how consistent he is. If he loses, I would love to see how he lost and whom he lost to. It is a rarity to see Chris G lose. But lol, like you said, Chris G is a salty person. I would love to see a rivalry emerge between him and the individual who defeated him.

Daigo's been missing for quite a while. At least in North America. It's been a good while since I've seen him compete in tournament, so I'm excited. He may not be the undeniable champ he once was, but he's still the beast. Daigo always does well at EVO; I too am hoping he wins.

It's nearly time, guys! Tomorrow is the start of a weekend of HYPE.

With the first day of EVO 2013 concluded, what are your thoughts?

For me, today felt like finals day. TTT2 finals were hype with Bronson pulling the upset against Nin; P4A finals were ridiculous with the incredible showings by Brkrdave and BananaKen; and finally, AE ended the day with exciting high-profile quarter-final and semi-final matches. I missed out on Mortal Kombat and a lot of Melee, but I'm sure it was a good day for both of those games. I'll catch myself up on those two before too long.

I love how the day ended with the somewhat depressing match between Laugh and Infiltration. Two best friends pitted against each other in the loser's bracket, in the face of elimination. One would get into top 8, and one would be eliminated. Both Laugh and Infiltration were dead serious coming into this match, and both were visibly shaken after the match. There were no hugs, smiles or handshakes. It is painful to imagine how it must feel to have to crush your closest friend's dream in order to realize your own. ;_;

Not watching the stream but will watch them when they hit youtube later. I was most hyped for Persona 4 arena but that seems to be sidelined which was annoying with them only showing Finals or top 8 cant remember which.

I am looking forward to watching KOFXIII as well because that was hype as hell last time as for the other games I am not so bothered,AE usually has some good final fights and no doubt I will watch the Marvel finals but I am getting a bit tired of those games.

I have no idea why MK and Injustice are there, one should of been removed (probably MK) and added DOA5 or kept SC5 imo. I am also disappointed that Skullgirls only gets a side tournament, I hope Darkstalkers 3 gets its own mini tournament again I love watching that although its pretty hard to find any footage.

I dont care much for smash but I dont mind it being there but I wish they would retire SFXTekken if that game wasnt made by Capcom it would have sunk without a trace its just boring to watch and play imo they could replace it with anything else almost and it would be better.

I am looking forward to the announcements that will be going on personally I am still hoping for a new Darkstalkers game but I am not expecting it. It will probably be a new update to SF with 2 new characters or a new alpha game or something. I hope Arc announces their new franchise though and SNK announces KOFXIV which is one of their dream games with all the characters from prievious games included in XIIIs art style as that would be hype.

I think last year's EVO was the first one I watched and well, I enjoyed it enough to be watching again this year. Although I only watched the pools because I forgot when the semi finals started.
I forgot how much I loved Mike Ross and Combofiend too ever since I stopped watching Cross Counter stuff. Their commentary had me in stitches, it was great.
As for individual players, I'm not particularly rooting for anyone. I'm just keeping an eye out for big names I recognise to see how they do. The main thing I, and probably a lot of others, will be watching out for is to see how ChrisG does in Marvel. Lots of talk about how if him and his MorriDoom win this year it'll be the end of MvC3's hype.
I don't know which game I'm most excited for though, either SF4 or MvC3. Depends on how varied the use of characters is. I'm already sick of Cammy and Akuma, but it'll probably be nothing to the amount of Foot Dives I'm gonna hear later today.

Just watched some matches and LordKnight, Banana Ken and Yume certainly delivered in P4A. Yume was just ridiculously strong though I have never seen an Aigis that good before.

Whereas Haitani and Sako are being as entertaining as ever in SF4 but PR Rog and Tokido are also having some brilliant matches. I always like watching Haitani and Sako play though dont know why I just always find them a joy to watch even if they lose.

I was a bit meh about Tekken GF but thats no disrespect to the players as they put on a good show.

Also Infiltration and Daigo are in losers bracket which I never saw coming. I hope Sako takes it all hes certainly got the skills and I love his stylin yeah sod the easy stuff lets go for the big damage ridiculously heavy execution combos. Well I actually prefer watching Haitani but Sako is a better SF4 player imo.

Unless something changes before Sunday, this really looks like it might be PR Rogs tournament to lose as far as SF4 is concenred. I've never really been a huge fan of his, but he's just playing so strong right now. Once he switched back to Rog, he pretty much manhandled Infiltration.

It was a weird Evo Friday all told. To actually have some games finished already is strange, as was there being so many high profile matches already occurring. Evo is, plain and simple, pretty much the definition of hype.

So tomorrow, with regards to the two remaining Capcom fighters, we have the upcoming matches:

[HEADING=2]Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - Top 8[/HEADING]

Winners bracket

Cloud805 (Zero, Vergil, Dante) vs. Angelic (Wolverine, Dormammu, Shuma-Gorath)
EMP|Flocker (Zero, Vergil, Hawkeye) vs. EG|Justin Wong (Wolverine, Storm, Akuma)

Losers bracket

AGE|NYChrisG (Morrigan, Dr. Doom, Vergil) vs. Ranmasama (Haggar, Dormammu, Magneto)
ATX|Zak (Zero, Vergil, Dante) vs. coL|Filipino Champ (Magneto, Dormammu, Dr. Doom)

I don't think I could have ever predicted UMvC3's top 8. Cloud805, Angelic, and Zak are the surprise underdogs for tomorrow. I don't know much about these players, but I at least know that they, having qualified for UMvC3 top 8, are great players. These guys could pull some big upsets!

My favourite to win is Chris G, but I do feel Justin Wong and Flocker have a decent chance of eliminating him. I probably wouldn't take any bets for this top 8.

[HEADING=2]Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition v2012 - Top 8[/HEADING]

Winners bracket

DM|Xian (Gen) vs. HORI|Sako (Ibuki, Evil Ryu)
EG|PR Balrog (Balrog) vs. MCZ|Tokido (Akuma)

Losers bracket

MCZ|Daigo (Ryu) vs. Infiltration (Akuma)
AvM|GamerBee (Adon) vs. Haitani (Makoto)

AE's top 8 is more in line with my expectations. All of these players are well-known by the international fighting game community, and a lot of them have been in EVO AE top 8s before. We'll be seeing some exceptionally high level Street Fighter tomorrow night.

I wouldn't take any bets for this top 8 either, but I will say that my favourite to win the tournament now is Sako. He's got plenty of tech, top-tier execution, and a bunch of characters to counterpick with. Plus, he's still in winners.

EDIT: Also, some Street Fighter IV update information:

EDIT 2: Holy smokes. EVO was absolutely incredible. I will allow myself some time to calm down and think before I make another post.

So, EVO concluded on Sunday. What did you all think of this year's event?

I've kind of given up on describing all that has happened this weekend. I didn't watch the finals for every game, but even then, there are still too many moments for me to describe. I'll just say that all the finals I've seen, P4A, KoFXIII, TTT2, AE, UMvC3, and Smash, were hype. I also have to say that the UMvC3 grand final was probably the best grand final set I have ever seen. Justin Wong played amazingly well.
