In the last two days, I've actually come across several people in my daily life that legit think evolution is a conspiracy, a farce, *insert derogatory name here* etc.

Evolution is a measurable thing that we can WATCH HAPPEN! STOP THE STUPIDITY!!!

It is a little more confrontational than would be ideal, but I get it. You're annoyed that people are ignoring solid evidence in favour of an ancient part in a book that even some of the people who believe said book to be the word of a deity consider to be false.

Thing is, people are free to believe what they wish, provided it doesn't harm others.

Personally, I believe in evolution, but also in some kind of force behind it, behind everything. Even with our scientific understanding of it, it's still a miraculous process. Of course, once you stop asking "how" and more onto the "whys" you move out of science and more into the realms of philosophy, and I believe that one of the key parts of philosophy is to never assume you can't be wrong.

Y'know, that does bring up an interesting point. What if the monkeys one day start catching up? A group of "the missing link" shows up in a jungle somewhere. The societal changes once they gain communication and mental skills could be massive.

'Course, I never claimed to be a scientist, so I suppose there could be some reason they will never evolve further.

You know, although the majority of the scientific community accepts it to be true, I'd like to see the people that claim it to be true actually know something about it. The amount of people that just "take their word for it" and not actually bother learning about why and how it is true is quite annoying, it's an interesting thing and you shouldn't argue it's true and sit back and say "science says so" as your proof, it's just as bad to appeal to the authority of scientists as it is to accept that evolution didn't happen due to a book saying so. Maybe if you looked into it you'd disagree with it, not that I do, but people should start learning about the things they like to argue about.

This is why I don't really get involved in Evolution arguments, because I don't know enough about it to persuade anybody that it's true as I can only take biologist's word for it (which I currently do), I'll probably look into it over the summer actually because I have quite a bit of spare time before I head off to uni.

They call it a theory because that's how they refer to these things. Like how they still say "Theory of Gravity".

You never ever ever ever say "evidence to PROVE" in science, only "evidence to support", even if there's overwhelming evidence that the theory is, in fact, fact.

No. First of all, technically speaking, nothing can be known with 100% certainty. There's no such thing as "100% fact". We might just all be brains in jars for all we know.
Second: 'Theory' is the highest standing an explanation of how stuff works can have in science.
The idea that bacteria make us sick is still a theory.
Something can't move from theory to fact, since those are two different categories.
Third: Evolution isn't a theory. It's an observation. There may be different theories trying to explain this observation, but the most well known one is The theory of Natural selection.
i.e. A theory is an attempt at explaining the mechanisms behind observations. A theory must be able to predict future events with some accuracy.

The theory of natural selection isn't some 100% foolproof 'this is how things work' statement. It's being tweaked and upgraded as our understanding of the world improves.
This means certain aspects of natural selection may be debated.

However, the fact that species turn into different species over time is not up for debate.

Saying "evolution doesn't happen" is like saying "the sky isn't blue".
Saying "natural selection doesn't happen" is like saying "the sky isn't blue because of particles in the air spreading different wavelengths of light at different angles, it's blue for some other reason."

You know, there are people out there who believe that evolution is ever-progressing, always moving a species forward. Which is false. I really wouldn't be so quick to label people stupid (just) because they don't get evolution. I really can't wait til whatever commonly held truth turns out to be factually incorrect and see people be just as stubborn to let go wrong beliefs. Well we need not worry about that, because Homo Sapiens are an entirely different species, and an entirely different Genus than our biological relatives, the tribe Homonini of the family Hominidae--who are a branch of the order Primate.

If I'm remembering my biology correctly, none of our biological relatives will ever evolve to our level, because the traits that allowed us to evolve to the level we see today are traits specific to the genus Homo. Of which we are the last surviving members.*

*Disclaimer: I'm not 100% on that, but I do remember hearing something to that effect in all my Biology classes.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, that doesn't mean that Primates, or even other members of the Homonini tribe could not evolve to be near our level--say Neanderthal--but they'll most certainly never be on the level of Homo Sapiens unless something drastically changes in their gene-pool.
