This is not a flame thread.

Now that thats out of the way, it has been firmly established in texts and in history that change is evolution and change is evolution and that through evolution and adaptation and so forth that causes something to continue and survive, and there are examples of this throughout history. Humans evolve and adapt and we survive. This is an easy argument. What for the reverse?

What is an example of something that has stifled change and stagnated evolution and thus caused its destruction?

Oft-repeated topics on internet forums springs to mind. Those topics tend to not 'evolve' much at all...

I don't think humans will evolve further than we have now. There are too many people surviving diseases and genetic illness. Brilliant for us, but a kick in the quad for evolution.

nothing, if it hasn't died or is extinct, it has won in the genetic lottery without evolution :3, I believe I win

Something that stagnated evolution?

Us humans? I mean, by changing the world so that we can live in it, we've created a world where we don't really have to evolve. Sure, we probably will evolve sooner or later, but I think it sounds plausible that at the very least our evolution has been slowed down.

Or am I completely off the ball?

The catholic church. This isn't a swipe at it, it's an observation. For so many years it refused to change and wasn't what people needed from religion that it's been losing a lot of members. Lately they've tried changing a few things but not a lot and it will lead to its destruction.

We probably will evolve further, but we'll probably end up going the way of the quarians and having less immune systems as we can fuck things over with some medicine.

Not exactly.. if we were to let people die from diseases, Humans would evolve to be more immune, giving more chance of individual survival.

Good idea but doubtful. Do you know how much fecal matter you breathe in everyday? Unless we live in a sterile environment I can't see our immune systems being affected that much.

I meant brilliant for us, as in all the people alive today. Not so good for future generations.

The dodo comes to mind. If humans hadn't brought in foreign animals that raided the nests to extinction, it might have evolved further.

sharks... pretty much perfect in their environment, so have not changed for millions of years. some variations ona common thread depending on their habitat, but the basic bad boy of the sea is a constant. same with croc's and alligators.

Humanity hasn't evolved since the moment we started using tools.

Plus, we're so determent on protecting (controlling) nature that it's evolution is pretty screwed up to.

I would have to say that crocodiles have evolved less than sharks. Look at the many variations of shark. From the dwarf lanternfish to the huge whale shark, sharks come in many varieties. Now look at crocodiles... only 23 species in comparison to the 350+ of sharks.

I don't think I understood that paragraph. Please see me after class. (Proofread your posts please).

If you are asking about the whole nature vs nurture argument I don't really care to comment. As for something that didn't evolve and died, how about every extinct animal ever?

The quarian example was a bit extreme, but if you compare peoples immune system today to those of a few hundred years ago, then we are definately weaker.

You know...no, I don't. I really don't think I'd be happy knowing, so lets set that one set.

From the context of your OP, I assume you're more talking about cultural evolution? If so, the Roman Empire and the pre-Renaisse, pre-Black death Catholic Church are both classic examples of cultural stagnantion that ended up killing themselves off.

If you mean biologically, islands - small land masses means limited competition, which in turn leads to reduced 'evolutionally drive' (a horribly inaccurate way of putting it but it'll do). We see this in countries like Australia where species from the Euro-Asian and American land masses easily out compete the local species.

Yeah, but we also live longer and keep our teeth longer.
