You know those flying fuckers in Gears of War that look like tiny Brumaks?
*a google search later*
Shriekers. Fuck those things.

The Technoblins in Skyward Sword, they always mve their stun prod the second before your sword hits them so that it hits your sword and you take damage.

There was a lot about the game I didn't love, but Saints Row: The Third's Elite Deckers were kinda cool. (zooming roller bladers with SMGs) Not a lot of health, just hard to track and target to get them as they were so fast.

There are plenty of examples of bosses who are hard for reasons other than ridiculous health.

The problem is most of these alternatives are just as 'cheap'.

Such as bosses who do ridiculous damage.
Or bosses who dodge ridiculously(which when you think about it isn't really any different to them having lots of health. Only difference is you spend more time not landing a hit on them).
Or have ridiculous speed (which usually results in one of the above^)

But i suppose it's cause those sorts of things are what makes stuff hard. Really, what other way could you make a boss hard without them either doing high damage, having high health, or having high speed?

.. unless perhaps they have some sort of debilitating effect, but even thats playing off the above things, just in reverse :/

Headcrabs and the zombies thereof. They don't have a ton of health but they are quick and numerous. The poison headcrabs defiantly don't help.

Best boss I've fought recently was Mr Freeze in Arkham City.

He didn't have loads of hit points, but once you used an attack on him, you couldn't use that attack again as he would adapt and change the environment so you couldn't use the attack anymore.

Best boss design I've seen for ages. It was easy, but it was tense, and required planning and was a step in the right direction.
Yeah I have to agree with this. It was a boss fight you had to think through rather than 'dodge, attack, dodge, attack'. That game had quite a few interesting boss battles.

I want to say Elites from Halo Reach but then I remember, the only reason theyre so hard is because on later difficulties they all have more shields and health than you (being able to survive up to 3 headshots with a sniper), and they have the ability to detect when you are looking at them through a scope, even if they shouldnt be able to detect you.
The white coloured ones are definently guilty of this

Necromorphs from Dead Space 1 and 2. You can shoot them all you want, but unless you take out the limbs, they'll just keep coming at you. Meaning you can't just blindly shoot at them and expect to win.
Even the big bad bosses don't have just a lot of health, you have to kill them in specific ways.

Mages in skyrim. They can hit you hard and fast but when faced with a 2H they go down real fast. Most of my deaths - in fact all - are by the hands of mages. IMO, classic examples of glass cannons.

Riot shields in almost any game. Getting around them has always been a challenge for me.

Woo, a reason to come here! Damn you, M00t, why do you not put a list of banned URLs? Or at least mention SOMEWHERE in the rules that the Detect Samefag script is banned.

And before I go, does being banned from 4chan while using a trip also ban that trip?

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep gives us Vanitas. Little health, little defense, hits like a freight train (loaded and built with uranium),moves extremely quickly, teleports (leaving behind a phantom image),belts out long combos fast, and finally,he has some nasty magic.

He's a ***** to fight. Every time I fight the bastard,I usually have to take twenty tries. And I grind a lot so I can level up my commands.
I'll see your Vanitas and raise you a Vanitas Remnant. Only one HP bar, but can kill you in one, maybe two hits if you're lucky. Though that might not count, since that's a secret boss.

On a related note, pretty much any fast, airborne enemies in the Kingdom Hearts series tend to be overpowered bastards. The Crimson Operas from Kingdom Hearts 2 come to mind (the ones that lay homing aerial mines everywhere.)

Edit: Oh! Forgot one!

The Pyros from Mass Effect 2. ANY Pyro. Seriously. They don't have that much health, and can easily be one-shotted with Overload or Incinerate (using either of those attacks on them causes them to burst like a fiery zit), but let them get close and they WILL kill you. It doesn't help that Shepard does that flailing animation as s/he tries to put the fire out, not bothering to get out of the fire first, instead standing there helplessly as the Pyro continues to torch them!

Fission-Metroids in Metroid Prime 1.
The first form can be killed with a pair of charged shots. Easy.
Then it splits into two more, both of which are immune to every attack you have except a specific beam, or a Power Bomb.

And you don't get THAT many Power Bombs...

Oh, and the area they spawn in, they spawn in infinite numbers. Peachy.

The worm type enemies in Terraria, they don't really have a lot of health but they can burrow through the terrain and come up right under you and then do massive damage because every piece of their multi-segmented bodies does damage when it touches you.

And as other people have said those black poisonous headcrabs in Half-Life 2 can go fuck off in the hottest sun in the universe.

Don't know if anyone has said this, but the hoppers in Mass Effect. They go down in a single sniper shot, but ya have to hit the fuckers first...
