Fellow Escapists,

Let's talk about the most evil method of torture devised by the government: public exams. You know, those horrific, sweat-inducing, nerve shattering pieces of paper that hold the potential to ruin your life.

I'm 18 and I live in Britain. I just finished a Biology A2 exam and it was without a doubt the worst, most misrepresentative, baffling, cruel and horrible set of questions man could have conjured. So many things could have gone wrong, and they did. Ran out of time, the stuff I assumed wouldn't be in due to the fact that it serves no purpose in the course (practical tests, you know, like how to test if the PH inside chloroplast has changed) turned up and a 3 mark question appeared on a fucking Seal. It was a 60 mark paper, and the time alloted was 60 minutes, which is pretty demanding in itself, and I'm pretty sure I failed miserably. I didn't even finish the damn thing.

So, I guess, if I don't re-sit the paper, those 50+ hours of revision have now gone out of the window and my future career prospects are ruined, and all because of a fucking Seal.

So, have any of you had similar experiences with exams? Either they've gone horribly wrong, lady luck spat in your face or you just want to rant about how idiotic they are; how easy it is to fail them. And no, this isn't a desperate sympathy seeking thread; I am now certain I know absolutely nothing, because I couldn't answer a question on Seals.

P.S. you have to get over 70% for a B. 60% is a pass.

I dislike tests, especially the Regents you are required to take in New York. It puts you under a lot of pressure and sometimes they very difficult or ridiculously long.

You forget my friend, the magic of scaling. If you found it hard (and studied as much as you say you did) chances are other people did too. If you've done better, but badly, than other people then you'll get marked up!

Yes, this is my approach at the moment.

SCALING! WONDERFUL SCALING!

history exam, I thought it said how far did technology affect the role of women in the workplace 1860-1930, it actually said 1860-1914. Most of my information was after 1914 so I'm going to fail for sure. Why such a fucking arbitrarily chosen date? It's bullshit is what it is.

But on the plus side i never have to do female suffrage and suffragettes ever again!

How boring struggles against the patriarchy are *scoffscoffscoff*.

OT: I would be happy if you could get a verbal part of the test (not just something like a foreign language), because I find I am better at in-depth speculation when speaking aloud and to someone else.

And Mr. OP, I dislike your choice in subject. I wouldn't survive long.

I do love thinking about others being worse than me. The worse they are, the better I look.

I just overslept and missed a history exam. Teacher doesn't allow make-ups unless you're dying or in prison. Fuck.

I've got university exams coming up. They count for 70%... 70 fucking percent! It's just plain evil. Giving some one 2 hours to write about WWI is not a good measure of how good a historian they are but noooooooooooooooo.... The coursework part of the module is only 30% and that takes up far more time. It's ridiculous.

I remember having to resit two of my Law exams back when I was doing A-level because I only managed to answer half of the questions.

I think notes should be available to be used on a test. They aren't cheating if you took them yourself.

Are you being sarcastic? Either way I don't really care, it's a really dull subject and even the girls in my class hated doing it. Even this one girl I know who's like an ultra-feminist disliked the subject when it actually came to doing it according to the curriculum.

I have an exam on Wednesday morning, and I have a horrible feeling I will oversleep. I hate the things, I truely do. Luckily, this one is about literature (Herodotus' Histories), which I'm very good at talking rubbish about and making it look impressive.

Exams should be done on either computers or paper, your choice. I'd write a much better answer if Icould type it...

I'm much more a coursework type of guy anyway, because I can redraft and get references right.

Heh, just wait till you get to university, then you will know about hellish exams :)

I've just finished a 2 hour essay exam on the French Revolution. It was pretty shit, I ended up waffling about how Napoleon was actually a pretty cool guy for subjecting the French population to harsh, arbritrary law and such. So yeah, not a success...

I'm hoping I've just winged 40% so I dont have to retake the module.

Hey! I have a WW1 exam on Wednesday! And I agree, the 30/70 split is bullshit. I got a First for my French Rev. Essay, but my exam will ruin that :(

Edit: Just looked at your profile and seen that you're at Aber. So am I lol!

If I get into Uni that is. I don't know how this one module will affect my grades but I pretty much need a B in Biology or I don't get in. I can bluff it with another subject, but the amount of pressure is insane. If you do not get 70% in this module, you will not go to Uni and your life will be over, is basically the image they create, these satanic examiners.
