yesterday, i was sitting in the couch watching news on TV when this came on:

the Christian group Evangelist takes medicine away from small children who needs it, and as alternative they "exorcised" the kids, thinking it would get rid of the diseases. this meant that 3 adults held the kid while a 4th chanted over and over.

i thought it insane. seriously, exorcism? every1 knows ill children should have medicines. even the pope. it was stunned how stupid this was. whats worse? they deny they have done it, even tho the ones who has grown up with it has laid a case against them.

That's why nutters suck, mate. Religion's just the excuse these particular nutters had at that juncture in time.

So because a couple of nutters do something stupid you claim that all of it sucks? Right.

This doesn't really prove that christianity sucks, it just proves that those individuals were morons.

This is not going to go down well, change the title.
This particular group of christians might be bat-shit insane, but you can't go around making blanket statements like that, not all people who follow the christian religion do things like this, and implying they do is obnoxious.

Edit:The title has been changed, good to see.

This, but less British-y.
This but more MaxTheReaper-y.

This thread is an example of gross use of blanket statements. Some of the closest people to me are Christians, kindly don't go insulting a large factor of their life <3

Aww cmon, because people are doing something they think to be religiously correct does not mean that all religious people are the same and believe similar things. In fact, what they were doing was blatantly not Christian at all!

If i see a moronic atheist you don't see me saying "all atheists are stupid as hell" and "atheism sucks". Cmon dude, the fact that a small minority of people have taken a religion in the completely wrong way does not mean that it is the norm that christians believe that people should be exorcised to cure them of disease! No one believes in exorcism anymore, except people who have probably watched those stupid exorcism films too many times.

Those individuals were morons, end of

look, I thought we all agreed on this the last time a religion thread came around.
Religion isn't good or bad. It's the people who abuse it that are. If their religion was where they got their ideals from, then maybe we should revise it a little. But christianity doesn't suck and neither do most other religions.

It's the fundamentalist retards like this that give the rest of christianty a bad rep, exorcisms are completely insane since neither satan nor demons exist but people will continue to take things to the point of fanaticism and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

Huh. I guess I should be offended, but honestly I've come to expect this kind of thing.

Just imagine if the post was "why minorities/atheists/scientists/farmers/Turbine/Bioware/Valve suck." Would we really tolerate this kind of thing? What makes Christians so much more of a special case? Well, whatever.

People want to keep doing what they're already doing and feel good about it. Look up Social Darwinism in the late 1800s if you want a less Christian example of pretty much the same thing. Religion, science, philosophy... It doesn't matter what it is-somebody will always spin it in a way that makes it okay to commit atrocities. Religion has no copyright over corruption and oppression.

You summed that up quite nicely, TK. Good work.

As idiotic as this was, it made me think; two, three, four hundred years ago, exorcism would have been the norm for healing, rather than scientific medicine.

Isn't it amazing how far we've come in four hundred years? From waving water and crosses over a dying man to artificially controlled implements performing surgery without a doctor even in the same building.

How fascinating.

Oh and I BSOD'd.
... I have the impulse control already. I'M DOOMED!

Hey, no biggy. I'd log back on but I'm meant to be asleep. Speaking of which, I should go try that sometime.

Oh well, if the kid dies they'll end up in prison, every cloud and all that.

But seriously, that's almost as bad as the new South African President (Jacob Zuma), after having (unprotected) sex with an HIV positive woman he 'showered thoroughly to minimise the risk of infection', bit late there mate. It never ceases to amaze me what people will do in the face of overwhelming evidence when their religion says otherwise.

Hell the pope even liked the movie The Da Vinci Code. They are not all whack job nutters that do stupid shit. There are unfortunately, however, a bunch that are.
