The Past City or The City

A world broken, millions fled to the middle continent to make a new life. Thus the City was born; from the North to the South the City covers it, no more forests or deserts, only buildings and blood. Broken up into Sections, the North, South, and Middle are composed of various Districts which factions now fight for control. There is nowhere to go, no islands, no lost forgotten paradises, only the City.

The Story Begins?

In the Middle Section, The Upper District has all of the other Districts in its grasps. Factions such as the Steel Hearts have been attempting to bring down Upper, but alas with the power of the Mages it is impossible. Even using the allusive faction, Red Stain, a band of assassins, failed in any attempt to take down the Upper District?s Nobles. They fear that if Upper District conquers the Middle Section, a third City War will erupt but time will tell if their fears are justified?

[HEADING=3]The North:[/HEADING]

The City is broken into three sections by Mountains; the North is a frozen wasteland, ruled by the Vo?ana family, and has for quite a bit of years. Compared to the other sections, the North is more civilized despite its tyrannical past, and is more accepting of Mages then the Middle or South. Due to this, they?re in a much better state then the other two, economically, and politically. Factions are less present but more represented in this section.

During the Age of Peace, the tyrant rule of the North was pushed out of power and a new rule was established. This began the Dean of the North, starting with the Klau family. The Dean of the North was a title of the leader of the ancient people who lived in the North, pre-city, but vanished suddenly. After this, the North took on new life, and truly embraced the Age of Peace. From there on then, even during the City Wars, they tried to keep peace.

Family Rules:

Klau ? 4782 ? 4820
Tilqo ? 4820 ? 5000
Doboq ? 5000 ? 5082
Meo ? 5082 ? 5406
Uallaz ? 5406 ? 5407
Zin ? 5407 ? 5510
Briep ? 5510 ? 5700
Shara ? 5700 ? 5800

Morg?a?sha ? 5845 ? 5922
Wesin ? 5922 ? 6001

[HEADING=3]The Middle:[/HEADING]

The Middle (where most of the RP will take) is a very standard climate, never gets too hot or too cold. It is ruled by the Nobles who came into power just before 5723 which began the Age of Nobles, as they hold the highest power of all the rulings of the sections. The ruler, Amelia Foel, is a tyrant, but as is the rest of the Nobles.

Current -

First ? Amelia Foel. (Mage ? and head of Nobles)
Second ? Ogshi Kata (Regular)
Third ? Borwal Jomna (Mage)
Fourth ? In?fal (Regular)
Fifth ? The Jalik family. (Mage)
Sixth ? Himha (Regular)
Seventh ? Telimina (Mage)
Eighth ? Unknown

For this the Middle is in constant unrest on all fronts and factions, fight for control in hope that if they gain enough they will be able to take down the Nobles. Since there is an underlying hatred of Mages, it was fueled more when Amelia Foel took power, who is a Mage.

[HEADING=3]The South:[/HEADING]

The South is in the worst condition of all the sections, and is a land of sandy heats, ruled by Hi?mo?Na, but the real power is in the factions. Hi?mo?Na is just a figurehead family, with not much say in how things go. Mages here are hated the most and killed on sight, due to the South?s history of not trying to forgive Mages after the incident on the rest of the continents.

(Note: Ethnicity isn't based on Section)

(Note: While the North and South are a snowy wasteland and Sandy heats, they?re still fully conquered and every little area is a district.)

(In the RP the next major events for the Main Story will be taking place in the South, so if you want to get involved with the Main story, be in the South for some reason.)

(Note: Traveling between Districts can take days between just two. So you can't appear across a section in just two days or so. Traveling from the bottom to Middle to the Top would take weeks.)

Due to an ancient war with Mages, the world was ravaged and made un-habitable, except for one continent. This is where one city, that was normally small, got bigger and bigger until eventually it engulfed the continent. The survivors of the war weren?t small and they all needed somewhere to live. From this fast expansion, many parts of the city are slums and in ruins over many years. Sewers below couldn?t reach every place and so many are without clean water. Factions fight over the last remaining natural water and food sources.

The style of the city is medieval but due to the many cultures, it has many different styles. Cultures have clashed in fights and some have completely been wiped out. Outside the city, there is nothing but vast oceans, all around the city is a large stone wall with slowly by the years is falling into ruins, though even with the wall gone; there will be no invaders and nowhere to go.

Since the creation of the City, over three thousand years ago, no one remembers the name of what it was originally called. It had been lost to time and history, with no records because of the war. So everyone simply calls it ?The City.?

Districts vary, and range from living quarters to mining facilities. Since the City engulfs a continent, it surrounds mountains and so some Districts have been built on the side of them and trade the mining resources to other districts. Some are better off than others, some are able to self-produce its resources and live thriving lives, while others are in ruins.

There are three types of Districts, Upper Class, Middle Class, and Lower Class. Though the differences between middle and lower are minimal at best, and Upper Class is above the rest by miles. Upper Class districts usually receive help from Upper District, though there are some rare cases. Middle and Lower classes are usually in conflict or just barely surviving the harsh winters. Separating each district is stone walls and water trenches. Though the water trenches are filthy and green because of the contamination, except for in Upper Class Districts were the water is purified, because it?s not in middle and lower classes, many get sick and fall dead.

Trading between Districts is fairly common, as the need for resources is so strong. Carriages will carry the trades between Districts and even a corporation was formed to take care of this that will do formal trades and gets paid in the process. Many work for it and strive to get a better life.

When the Universe was created by the Energy, it split into, from it, the Gods and Dark Gods were formed to show the Good and Evil of the life. Like Human?s they have their own society, gods and goddess and are born, but only one god and goddess have absolute power. Same for the Dark Gods, thus war erupted between the two.
[HEADING=2]God Magic:[/HEADING]
It was said that the Ancient civilization that ruins are left in the City, that the guardians protect, had access to God Magic and were able to bend life at will. It isn?t exactly know, how they learned it, or the specific spells only that they knew it.
[HEADING=2]Dark God Magic:[/HEADING]
It is unknown who had access to it, only that they were known as the: Out Casts, and it was written in the history of the Ancient Civilization. They were able to bend death. Beings of nothingness, but at the same time, humanoid. They fought against the Ancient Civilization, but lost and therefore were banished into the Gates.

Over Three thousand years, Factions have rose and fallen, each with many deaths. Many find it hard to keep stable, as with many different people, ideas conflict and change. Though not all factions fight or act upon the same idea. Some Factions are assassins who just get hired to do deeds, others are rebel factions to fight against the Upper District, and some are bandits, workers and cults.

They vary in sizes as well, some Factions rule over many districts but some doesn?t rule over any.

This Faction wishes to overthrow the Upper District and attempt at a real government where they could bring the city back onto its tracks. It once started out as a small group, eventually expanded to encompass many distracts. They are at a constant fight with mages, and due to this fight, make it hard to enter or leave Upper District. Though the attempt to completely seclude them from the outside world has never succeeded as they always find other ways.

Due to their goal, their appeal is massive and constantly many young men and women join every day to bring down Upper District. This has given rise to many resources given to them from various districts and so they are never low but never have as much as Upper, due to the mass amount of districts that benefit from it.

Their leader is the admiral able man, Kron Heart, with the help of his friend Yama Steel; they were able to create the faction. Taking both of their last names to create the name.

Official symbol: A steel heart, which is placed over all of their clothes, right on the heart.

Main District: He?val, a large district that mainly manufactures many materials. It is located on the side of a mountain, far away from Upper District.

Indifferent to Mages

Created as a way to make money, this faction, works for all and will kill anyone. Their existence and history is shrouded in mystery, were their main district is located and who is in the faction. To contact them, you must go to one of the various pubs in districts and leave a note with a red stain on it to get one of the members to come. All factions hire them, but there are targets that they can?t get.

Steel Heart has asked them to assassinate official members in Upper District but the mages always thwart their plans, even when some of the assassins are mages themselves.

Official symbol: A red stain, but it?s not worn on armor to keep identity secret.

Indifferent to Mages
Mainly consisting of the Rich and Mages, they?re the main target of many rebel factions. It was founded when the city was, and its founders being people who lived in the City before its expansion. They had been powerful mages who helped expand the city but then abandoned most of it when it needed to take care of itself. Over the years this has been somewhat kept and to this day, only help other districts if they get something more useful out of it.

Corrupted and dangerous as they maybe, they protect all in Upper District and allow them to live peaceful lives. Its current leader is Amelia Foel, the most powerful mage in the entire City.

Official symbol: A golden shield with a blue flame in the middle.
Main District: Upper District, the largest district, encompassing whole forests and its own towns.

The Eight Nobles

A sub faction in Upper District, it consists of the strongest and wealthiest families of all. They control much of Upper District and produce some of the strongest mages. Since their creation in 5700 C.D, families have rose and fallen. The family known as Foel, their head of family, Amelia is the head of Upper District.

[HEADING=2]The Magic Academy Explained:[/HEADING]
In Upper District, Mages are put into the Academy by the Age of Six, but most families have them training before then, Upper maybe cruel, but they have a law against abusive training. For the two first years of the school, students are sorted into Regulars and Pro?s. Regulars: Basic students who talents are normal, nothing special. Pros: Those who show exceptional abilities in the art of Magic.

There are few exceptions for at times, Pros being Regulars instead. Lorel for instance, is a Regular, despite being originally in Pro?s. This was because of an argument he had with one of his Masters.

[HEADING=2]The Regular Academy:[/HEADING]
Larger than the Magic academy, this is where the majority of Upper children go off to who have no magic. The difference between it and the Magic academy besides Magic is the fact that it teaches basic life skills and various things such as Mathematics, history and such, and teaches sword fighting, archery, and so on.

A cult that believes in the ancient fallen goddess, Osaia, who was banished to the world because she tried to take control of the heavens. They see Osaia as the symbol of unity and free will and praise her. Though a simple religion that turned cult when their deeds began to become vicious and sick. Attacking any other faction or even Districts in the name of ?Free Will? they?re massive and considered a threat to all in the City.

Note: While their is no real religion, many debate whether or not Osaian is actually a religion due to beliving in something that does indeed exist.

Many try to avoid it but then become dragged in somehow and end up joining or being killed. Their current leader, Rohel Mare, leads them into terrorist attacks to gain publicity and rule. They have taken over districts in the name of their fallen goddess.

Official Symbol: White Wings with broken chains.

Main District: Emerald, a small district that in the center, lays a castle and an underground network of caves.

Indifferent to Mages

Created in anger against Mages for them for making how the world is. They fight to destroy all mages and or put them under their control, and each carry around an amulet that lets them detect magic, if it was once used in a spot or if there is a nearby large source of energy. Like Steel Heart, their goal is popular and so they get much support and are allowed a lot of freedom moving from one district to the next.

Their leader is Revin Marks, descendent of an Anti-Magic family who once ruled over the ancient nation of Amelelica.

Official Symbol: A blue flame crossed out in red.

Main District: Ferela, second largest district to Upper, it is the home of Eren Douab.

Hate Mages with a passion
A merchant Faction that travels across the City trading to any faction.

Their leader is Moya Lamb, an older lady who has been trading since her young years.

Official Symbol: A trinket with god over it.

Main District: Middle District.

Indifferent to Mages

A mysterious group that lives in the North and South Mountains on the Middle?s borders, who claim to be protecting ancient ruins from the people who originally were on the continent before any other outside group. These people were stated to have God Magic and fought an ancient war with people creatures that had Dark God Magic which lead to both of them dying out. Whether or not they actually are true, is debated by many City scholars.

They?re tribal and peaceful as long as no one touches the ruins without asking. Many of them wear facial paint on them that represents parts of the Ancient Civilizations history or customs.

Their leader is Bran Tremlock, a mysterious man who keeps to himself but still decides how the Guardians run and operate.

No official symbol.

Supporters of Mages but indifferent to those who despise them.

Magic:

Magic is passed down through genetics, it isn?t something you can just learn. It must be passed down. Though not always will a member get Magic from a family member. Elements aren?t genetic, a person can be from a family that uses all water, but your main could be fire.

Magic: Fire, Lighting, Ice, Water, Wind, Earth, Dark, Light, and Non-Elemental (but this isn't a main element.)

Magic isn?t just something you learn, just as you go, it doesn?t skip around. No you start out as a lower level and as you go learn more and more. Granted this is a structure created by not strictly enforced but is used commonly among mages.

These can be or not be genetic and only a few possess. Separate from Magic, this can be considered, extreme abilities when fighting, a berserk mode, psi-energy, supernatural hearing, etc?

You can?t have both!

More examples of abilities so to get an idea: Immunity to Fire, Water, Lighting, etc, Enhanced Sight (basically you could point out the smallest of details from afar), Smarts (your character can process things much faster, so sort of also a benefit of better reaction), Enhanced Strength (able to move faster, stronger, etc then most regular people.)

Note there is a South Mountian Range. Also that there is walls seperating each District.

[HEADING=3]Reboot? There was an original?[/HEADING]

Yes, there was an Original, but sadly it recently in months died due to many members going MIA or never posting. I hope to get more efficient posters this time. :)

This time the story will be slightly more structured, and not as open, but there will still be a good amount of freedom characters will be able to have.

Name: Vincent Edwards

Age: 17

Section: South

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Personality: Vincent is a heartless man, and he won't hesitate to kill if someone stands in his way, even if it's an ally. He is ruthless and many of the Mage Hunters fear his skill and ferocity in battle.

Faction: Mage Hunters, although he rarely has contact with them aside from the assignments he is given by them.

Bio: Not much is known about Vincent's past, most of it due to his own fractured memory. Nothing can be found in any of The City's records saying that there even was a man named Vincent Edwards, it was as if Vincent had appeared out of thin air. The earliest memory's that Vincent has, is his awakening on the shore of Lake Foel, not knowing how he got there or who he was.

The only reason he had a name now, was due to a jet-black crossbow he found laying at his side half buried in sand. The only clothing he has ever worn was what he was found wearing when he was first discovered laying in the sand. The only things on his person, were his crossbow, a jet-black blade and an onyx ring. The men who found Vincent were high-ranking members of the Mage Hunters, and they at first assumed Vincent was a rogue mage.

It was only after a small fight broke out that they decided he was no mage. They bound Vincent's hands and blindfolded him, bringing him back to their base of operation in Ferela. There he was inducted into their organization, given his amulet, and then sent on a mission. At first they weren't sure how Vincent would fare, and they believed he would only last one or two missions if he was lucky. They couldn't have been more wrong.

Vincent's rank skyrocketed, faster than anyone they had ever inducted into the Mage Hunters. Despite his high rank however, his presence in Ferela grew less and less as the weeks went on. Eventually he only came to Ferela to accept missions and even that has stopped as of recently. Vincent's main goal as of late has been to find out about his past and why he can't remember anything before his awakening on the beach.

~What elements would the players be restricted to?
~Does magical experimentation occur on people and could it emulate something like the power I asked about earlier?
~How would one RP a Red Stain member? Would they keep it a secret and just go under the guise of some other affiliation?
~Would Morality play a large part in the group and it's storyline (would the players be restricted to good or evil)

(I say the players because while I know I wont be signing up at the start, I'll be keeping an eye on this for possible future endeavours AKA: If one the roleplays I'm in keels over)

EDIT: I'm an idiot I read 'Ideas' as 'Questions'

Name: Scarlett Verneer

Age: 34

Section: North

Gender: Female

Looks:

Personality:

Scarlett suffers from a lack of identification, the result of been crafted by the Red Stains from such an early age. It is often said she has a heart of ice and is more familiar with the dead than the living. She has had little social interaction since she was a child and appears to others as shy and a bit of a loaner but the simply truth is that Scarlett does not know what to do. She hates interference and prefers to spend her time alone indulging in her taste for fine clothes, music, food and drink. She is an expert in manipulation, exceptionally intelligent and a pathological liar (the result of her work) and can appear to be anybody she wants with relative ease. All of which leaves Scarlett struggling to find herself.

Faction: Red Stain

Bio:

Scarlett is a living legend, surrounded by myth and rumour she is often mistaken for just a fanciful story told over a roaring fire or a foaming pint of ale. But nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, she was herself, prominent in ascending her reputation into a tall tale to protect her identity and keep herself alive.

Behind the speculation and exaggeration are few known facts, Scarlett hails from the frozen north, born the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman and a courtesan (some would have you believe no other than a member of the Vo'ana family) she spent her early years in solitude, hidden away in a crumbling manor house as the adopted daughter of a servant. Her mother, the courtesan, was killed after the birth (her throat slit) and Scarlett herself was only spared by the pleading of a servant who had suffered a terrible miscarriage with her own child. At the age of four her adopted mother and father grew ill and after a serious of events Scarlett fell into the hands of the Red Stain. Apprenticed to a young woman she grew up learning the ways and methods of the Red Stain and became a formidable young assassin much to the ire of her peers.

At the age of twenty two she was lured by three members of the Red Stain into a trap and the resulting knife fight, ending twenty minutes later, with Scarlett the victory and the proud new owner of a scar running all the way down her back (her only identifiable mark). It was from here much of her current reputation was born. She has a heart of ice, some say a reflection of her homeland, and is rarely seen by other members of the Red Stain anymore. Very few remain alive who can actually identify her by her face. Scarlett began taking more of the risky and high profile contracts building up a solid reputation for completing her work.

Other Info:

More than proficient in unarmed combat, but carries a single thin dagger as her main weapon (Scarlett also has a hidden backup blade in her right boot). She is also and expert in lockpicking.

Ability:

Scarlett possesses no magical ability but has exceptional hearing, she uses this as a kind of mental sonar to locate people in rooms.

Criticism would be welcome!

Very interested... but alas one more RP may tip me overboard.
Also, for abilities, would Bone Manipulation be applicable? sort of like this guy

Sorry, that's a bit eccentric for an ability. But if you have any other idea's, just say em.

I shall answer them now. Sorry, my friend has been over so I haven't had time.

-Elements:

Fire, Lighting, Ice, Water, Earth, Light, Dark, and Wind and Non-Elemental (but these aren't and can't be a main element, they're things like, removing a gas, bubble in water, etc.)

-Magical Experimentation does occur (something that will be further disscussed within the RP) and possibly.

-They would go under a guise of another affliation. Like a Red Stain member would maybe be a bartender, or a merchant, and that occupation could change daily or as long as it takes to get an assingment which Red Stain has a sort of 'board' that people can suggest on and offical Red Stain courriers will go and give the mission to known Red Stain workers. But on this 'board' a person hiring a Red Stain member couldn't see other assingments and the 'board's location moves to keep secrets.

Red Stain courriers would sometimes sit in pubs or spread rumors about the 'board' so then people can find them but not enough to make the location fully known to the public.

I will admit on the workings of Red Stain is still something that is a WIP, but I am up for suggestions.

-Morality can be grey, you can be 'good' but still do 'evil' things in the name of good. I would say more so your actions would be more of an influence on the group and storyline. I hope that answers your question.

Also a little addition I made to Abilities from the OP post:
More examples of abilities so to get an idea: Immunity to Fire, Water, Lighting, etc, Enhanced Sight (basically you could point out the smallest of details from afar), Smarts (your character can process things much faster, so sort of also a benefit of better reaction), Enhanced Strength (able to move faster, stronger, etc then most regular people.)

Good, only problem, the Section part of the Info, is where they hail from, not their current location, so yours would be: North. But besides that, fantastic.

Hm... This is an interesting one. just to clarify one thing.

Upper District (which I think you meant by Upper City) is a District within the Middle Section. Now Districts are also classified as (Lower, Middle, and Upper Class) and there is also a Middle District which is a district (there is no Lower District how ever) but like above, Districts can be classified as Middle Class.

Also Upper District (something many people get confused about) isn't literally above other Districts, like it isn't on a hill or above sea level. It's name stems from the fact that Upper District is the wheathliest and most powerful District within the Middle Section.

Now on to the whole Divine powers. This is something I have been debating about, since for the most parts, the Gods and Goddess (not the Dark) are mostly taking a hands-off apporach since what happened with the one ancient civilization that the Guardians protect (a faction I just added to the Faction list, so you may have missed it. It was always in the City, but I didn't list it till now) the ruins of.

But I will say this, I haven't been above the idea of (and in many of my brainstormings) have some, Gods and Goddess interacting with the City in secret above from the Main God and Goddess.

So I think your character will be fine on that part. I will get back to you soon on acceptance or not, most likely you will. :)

~ How possible?... (Oh god it sounds like I'm bartering)
~ Which factions would be the most likely to subject someone to such horrors.
~ Would a water mage be able to learn a more 'unique' variation of the magic instead of a second element, perhaps 'Blood' where they could use the iron in the blood to create more physical oriented weapons, for example; blades
~ How will OOC communication take place? Will it be skype for quick management or an escapist group?

Also, my flexibility has increased and there is now a rather large chance I may sign up

P.S. If it sounds like I'm being pushy or assholish, please forgive me I don't mean to T_T

-Magic Experimentation, is basically using Magic particles of various kinds and injecting it into the body. Though only one case did this ever give a person Magic (a character who is in the RP) but almost anytime it usually gives them unique traits or they die.

-Upper District or Osaians.

-For now it will just be the basic elements.

(Sorry some things I will admit, are spoilrific, so I can't say.)

-OOC Communication is either through the Group chat or Skype. I will say Skype is much easier, and someone like Pyro (who's post is the first character sign up in the thread) was in the original City RP and so I talk with him on Skype and that makes communication much easier. No Mics or Cam, just text.

Also you're not coming off as any of those, you're asking questions, which is good. More questions asked, more things can be fleshed out for other people and yourself.

Marvellous! Then I suppose I can keep asking questions. Also I've no issues with them not being answered because of spoilers, I can wait >:)

~ Does magic have a reserve that the Mage will draw from and ultimately exhaust?
~ What would Dark magic entail?
~ If Magic does have a source to draw from, then would an ability that's enhanced by magical experimentation draw from that same reserve?

-Magic keeps building up in a Mage, almost to the point where they must let out some Magic in order to keep a stable life. Though too much use of Magic can exchaust a person, but never can they run out of it.

-Dark Magic doesn't mean Evil, it just means using things like Shadows, Curses, Teleportation (something unique to Dark Magic, but teleportation is limited to a general area but can be useful in battle.)

-Abilites are drawn from that person themselves, not the Magic, even if the ability does come from Magic experimentation.

Awesome. Last questions for the night (I hope)

~ You mentioned that Dark Magic has the unique ability of teleportation. Do the other elements have something drastically unique to their own as well?
~ Would increased bone density (stone like strength) be an eccentric ability also?

Also since I?m in (hopefully) do either of you want to set up some history between your characters? It could help to develop our characters and increase our chances of getting in.
I don't mind that. What did you have in mind?

-Fire - Ability to forge into a weapon-like-state
-Water - Heal wounds.
-Earth - Rock Armor (due note that Magic energy creates the Earths magic. So you could be in the air but your magic forms a lump of Earth to use.)
-Wind - Ability to sort of levivtate a bit.
-Lighting - The ability to move quicker in a burst of lighting.
-Ice - Snow storm, it can create a mini-Snow Storm to hide you from attackers.
-Light - Able to blind people in a ray of light.

But all Magic can combine with each other = Dark Flame, Lighting Wind, etc... That part is a bit more creative.

-Um... You would need to put that into more contex for me. Like more Bone Density = Person can take more hits?
