It's political intrigue and whole-world issues presented from the point of view of a socially-bereft but brilliant 8-year old. It's extremely well written, has great pacing and grips you from the get go.

I knew very little about it before picking it up and read half the book in the space of a couple of hours. It's a genuinely great read.

The general gist of the book is that the government's looking for unique ways to fight an increasingly losing war. So they turn to kids, kids whose moral center isn't fully formed and are therefore more willing to take unorthodox methods at attacking problems. This is how it starts. Ender's life is both brutal and intriguing. The book is a solid read, and the movie trailer gave away a bit too much. Pick it up and read it. I read it when I was in grade school and was a bit surprised by the adult themes involved, goosebumps this isn't.
