oh dear.

patriotism is no better than any other kind of fanaticism.
I'm not quite so sure of that. Then again, it depends on the degree of patriotism. Naturally, being proud of your country is a good thing. However, 'ALL FOREIGNERS WILL DIE!' is usually taking it a bit too far.
I would say that being proud of your country isn't a good thing, especially the larger the country gets
I meant proud of your country on a small scale. To the extent of liking where you live, voting in the government you think will make it a better place etc., yet still appreciating other people and cultures and promoting peace and cooperation and all that kind of thing. I fail to see how this can be a bad thing. Obviously, some people can and have taken it to far, but that wasn't the kind of thing I meant.
I wouldn't consider that patriotism.
well I would. Problem solved. This conversation is now over.

I'm surprised there isn't more British anger than the bit I've seen. Most of it is just apathy.

The wedding? Oh yeah, that happened. Yeah, I spent it the same way I've been spending the past 4 months; working on my exit project for college.

The royals bring close to a billion a year from tourism and land rights into the British economy. Any kind of tax we pay is multiplied many times and put back. And thats ignoring the best thing about them, The queen is the best ambassador that any country will ever have (well maybe the Dalai Lama)

The Queen has no real power, therefor she can't be blamed for anything the Prime Minister does. Sending the queen on a Good will mission to other country does nothing but good usually, Sending Someone like Cameron or Obama to a country can have negative side affects, regardless of whether or not they did it, they only see the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, Protests and the like. With the queen they see a harmless but perceived to be powerful old woman representing some ideal view of the UK. It does nothing but broker good will among the country shes visiting (regardless of some apathy) and helps massively with British business deals and the like.

I like them, some of them are Grade A Hunts but oh well, for there Flaws Harry and William seem to openly care about when they do, Harry enough to quite the press so he could fight on the front lines of a War.

For all the republican feelings and random press silliness (and the DoE's inability to not be randomly stupid as all hell) they do far, FAR more good for the UK than anything else.

Couldn't watch it, had a 12 hour shift yesterday.
Not that I would have watched it because c'mon... the whole thing was like 8 hours long!

I'm pro-wedding nevertheless. Tourism, merchandise and TV rights must have made Britain a fortune.

Not caring. Then again, I'm not British.

I'm sorry, but could somebody explain to me the significance?

This would be the typical dalek dialougue:
During date: EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE
During wedding:CUT-THE-CAKE, CUT-THE-CAKE
After wedding: FORNICATE, FORNICATE
After honeymoon: EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE

then you must have a rather broad definition of patriotism, to the point that such a usage of the word would make it rather ambiguous.

I feel happy for them, because they're in love. And the Prince is a pretty decent guy by all accounts. Didn't let the whole media hoo-haa bother me. Mo reason for it to do so.

I really couldn't give two shits about the royal wedding. To me it's like Jennifer Lopez's 37th wedding or any other celebrity wedding, why should I care? I don't get what the fuss is about.
That Dalek looks awesome though.

Didn't care about the royal wedding to begin with, but I'm a republican, I barely give a crap about the monarchy in general. I'm not fond of being ruled over by someone who is supposedly appointed by a deity I do not believe in and head of a church I am not part of, yet expects me to obey their rule despite this fact and also stands directly in the way of the U.K. finally separating church and state like we should've done decades ago.

I was actually working while the wedding was going on, I figured I might as well be doing something useful instead of wasting my time supporting something I have no stake in. I also don't see the point in weddings altogether, so the entire even was utterly pointless to me from the start.

To be brutally honest, I just found the entire affair a drain on public funds and a waste of time.

I think I slept through it, pretty hungover from the night previous. Although had I been conscious I would have thoroughly ignored the whole charade, I have to say I'm quite proud of my ignorence of the entire event. But if other people want to at least try to extract some enjoyment from their tax money being pissed away, then all the power to them.

I like how the Dalek is kind of looking at the plate of food, like "What the hell am I DOING?"

Incidentally, that's the only aspect of this topic worth salvaging. I give absolutely zero shits as an American. I'm pretty sure no one on this site actually cares about it, which is strange, because they keep bringing the damn thing up.

OK, why are all my captchas wearing beer goggles?

Some people on here are such grouches. "No, I refuse to enjoy myself! You're all stupid! This is stupid!"
But then that would be a case of us enjoying ourselves at, them enjoying themselves at our expense... yeah no thanks for that.

The relevence of a clan of inbreeds completely escapes me.
wait, woah woah woah. the Royal family are many things, but i don't think you can call them inbred. They married into pretty much every royal family in Europe.
