Hey, a long time ago I bought a Seagate 2TB Expansion external hard-drive. About two months ago, I deleted all the files off it. However, since then, I've been unable to get it working. The most I've managed to get it to do is to appear as a disk drive in Device Manager, but I've been unable to get it to appear in the Disk Management or in the Seagate Drive Settings program. I'm running Windows 7.

Have you tried Googling it? This page showed up, don't know if it'll solve the problem but if you haven't looked at it you probably should. http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=213055&NewLang=en

Short of that, is there another computer you can try it on? Maybe try a different data cable? Making little changes like that might narrow down the problem to a £3 faulty cable instead of the whole drive dying.

I've tried, but partly because it's as user friendly as a bomb and partly because it doesn't actually say anything about the current error I have, I've had little luck. In terms of Googling it out-right, done, tried and failed. Haven't seen anyone mention an external hard-drive working with device manager but not with disk management.

So far , I've been unable to find a replacement data cable to try but will be trying to use it on a laptop I have tomorrow.

I had a problem with my portable hard drive a little while ago. On the mac it would just freeze everything up. On the windows machine, I managed to get the computer to recognise it and I found some tool on windows that repairs hard drive errors. After getting it to do that, the hard drive worked fine and all the data was still there.

I can't remember where I found it exactly but it is most likely somewhere in either the control panel or if you right click on the drive when it comes up in 'computer' it could be in the list of things that comes up. Otherwise if it's not there, right click on the drive and go to properties and you might find the hard disk repair tool.

Hope this helps.

If the drive is functioning properly you might have somehow deleted the drive partition.

If you have done that then you will need to reformat the drive.
