Similarities between ME3 and Cabin endings:
- Epic battle between humans and incomprehensible terrors, which the humans are losing.
- Main character (Dana/Shepard) and Heroic Sidekick (Marty/Anderson) arrive at a strange circular room.
- Main Character and Heroic Sidekick are both hurt, MC has a gun.
- A Primary Antagonist (The Director/Illusive Man/Catalyst Kid) arrives and explains their own viewpoint on the current situation.
- Midway through this conversation, Main Character points their gun at their Heroic Sidekick, but fails to kill them.
-The hitherto unseen Antagonist (The Director/Catalyst Kid) gives a bizarre explanation for what is going on, and leaves the MC with a choice that will decide the fate of the human race.
-Primary Antagonist (The Director/Illusive Man) is killed.
-Main Character and Heroic Sidekick sit down next to each other, covered in blood, and have a stoic, final exchange.
-A wave of destruction spreads over the known world, seemingly killing the Main Character and their Heroic Sidekick.
-In any case, the Main Character's choice is ultimately irrelevant in stopping the wave of destruction (ME3: Every choice leads to destruction; Cabin: Dana's power to choose is taken away before she even has time to make one).
My question is, do people hate the ending of A Cabin in the Woods as much as Mass Effect 3? And if not, why not? What's the difference? When you think about Cabin, there are just as many plot holes, if not more. But people seem to like the ending...
Anyway, I'm pretty sure this proves my theory that Dana is an unindoctrinated Commander Shepard and The Cabin in the Woods is actually what was really happening in Mass Effect.
