Is it just the ps3 version or is the game actually that hideous? Nasty textures, aliasing, bad lighting, shoddy design. It's just nasty.

Downloaded the demo and played it through a few times and it was very enjoyable. The graphics look a little dumbed down, but the gameplay itself was great. Enemies were about the same as from the first and the new sequences with Alma are really great, i love them since Alma is basically what makes the game. Only thing that felt out of place was the mech suit and also something just felt out of place and wrong, but i couldn't figure out what it was. Ill be getting it though, want to find out the story a bit more.

Am i the only one tho thought the graphics were just fine? Hell at times it was even pretty though that was all done with post-processing effects. Again, not sure about anyone else but the combat actually felt pretty good at times, the sniper in particular was great. And hey it wasnt scary and probably didnt add to the tension but being in the mech was good fun - people got lacsrated by the machiene guns rather than taking damage like i was using an assault, which is a nice change, and there was something really quite rewarding about FINALLY using the multiple rockets which were used against me so often in the first game.

one thing though... Tentacles?

I played the demo and thought it was a solid shooter. Also, did anyone find
that decapitated head in the toilet?

FEAR 2 is one very large step backwards from the groundbreaking first game. The AI is brick stupid, the Textures are shitty, and the overall game is.... ugh.

F.E.A.R. is one of the funnest and scariest shooters out there. To me it's classic. The demo LOOKS great, but thus far doesn't feel like F.E.A.R.

To me, F.E.A.R. was scary because you were trapped in tall building with no one to help you, while being surrounded by paranormal activities and Replica soldiers.

I felt SAFER when the Replica soldiers were around because I knew nothing paranormal would come at me, it helped create GREAT tension when you were alone in the halls.

I'm sure F.E.A.R. 2 will have SOME of these similar environments. But the demo mostly feels like just another run around a ruined city shooter (WWII shooters, Half Life 2, etc.), being out in the open isn't quite as frightening. I'm not going to be afraid of ghosts when I'm inside of a goddamn Mech.

Sounds like Monolith listened to too many moronic complaints about the environments being "boring" or "repetitive". And people bitching about not enough "variety" in the enemies. If this were actually a problem, F.E.A.R. wouldn't have been as respected as it is already... it WASN'T a problem.

So fuck you fans for complaining about an already fantastic game.

And fuck you Monolith for listening to them.

P.S. Why did you take out the lean option Monolith? Because there weren't enough buttons on a lame console control pad? Stop catering to consoles and leaving PC gamers in the afterthought.

P.P.S. I will still get this game... because demos don't always tell the whole story about a game.
They didn't take out the lean. They just decided only the AI was worthy of that option so

Demo.... pah completed the actual Game itself and very much enjoyed it. The scary bits made me jump once or twice the combat was fairly engaging with the weapons giving a satisfying thunk as they hit flesh and bone. Some of the weapons were mince. The new Plasma Cannon was no where near as much fun as the old one and the Laser weapons delay prior to fire was just plain annoying.

Graphics wise the game did the job very nicely

That's with 8AA and 8AT forced through Nvidia control panel and it very rarely dipped below 45FPS and I never encountered any of the stutter other people complained about and the 'grain effect' was never something that annoyed me.

The games story also drove the action on every nicely and whilst a lot of people have moaned about the ending I found it to be quite shocking and it left me wanting to know what's gonna happen next.

Even the consolefying of the level design and pacing didn't annoy me. Ok it would save prior to a battle and you would always have ammo and armour placed near to the start of any major combat and yes it ruined the pace a bit and meant their was less punishment for wading in to combat with the wrong weapon. You knew that if you lost your armour you would find some more prior to the next big encounter but some how it did work. I even enjoyed the Armour Suit parts of the combat.

Things that did annoy me

The biggest issue was the replacement of the lean function with the cover feature. Since the cover feature proved to be all but useless. If I had time to create cover I had time to slow down time, run up to the bad guy, whilst firing half a clip of bullets in to him, and then boot him squarely in the chops.

The environments whilst varied didn't allow for the bad guys to use their AI. An issue levelled at the second game is that the AI wasn't as good as it was in the first. The AI was no less intelligent it's just that the environments left them with little option other than to run head long in to a. my bullets or b. my size 8 boot.

The Stealth Assassin guys were no where near as problematic as they were in the first game. in this game they were just too easy.

Oh and the last level was as retarded as it was in the the original game. Constant assault by unsubstantial and unavoidable enemy meaning you have to run whilst smashing the medi pack button does not make for a fun time.

Other than that a very good game

I encountered 1 game ending glitch. In the second level when you go into the tube it spit me out on the wrong side with no way to get where I needed to be. it would have been funny if the game hadn't checkpointed me and forced a restart making me lose all my veteran progress. I haven't finished it yet but for as far as I have gotten it is a really fun game. Too bad the AI can be really sucidial at times. A few times now I have watched in horror as they shoot the explosive barrel they are standing beside while I am in the middle of reloading. Then the next group will hide behind cover while trying to flank me.

Fixed 16:9 aspect ratio, letterboxed in both 4:3 and 16:10 resolutions, in a FPS on the PC? WTF.

I expect this announcement from Monolith sometime in the future:
We are pleased to announce FEAR 3 for *both* platforms - 360 and PS3.
