Yeah i understand that hate for that especific part of the game. I failed so much in that chapter, that i swear to heavens above, hate and rage sent me to a blank state of adrenaline that only by miracle i managed to finish that chapter. But didn't got the achievment... something tells me i will never get it...

I realize there must be a especific path to do, and ofc you need awesome aim, good driving skills, and not go against any wall....

First of all first class on using Yahtzee quotes in place of wit and secondly man up its a fair and exasperating challenge turn it down to easy if you cant deal with hunters who die with 1 hit from a car or energy ball.

I didn't find that bit too hard. A bit annoying, not very fun, but not hard.

Yeah, that was pretty tough. Though I found the damn Strider battle in HL2 outside of the Nexus and the gunship battle at Nova Prospekt to be a thousand times worse. Seconding that it's worth it for the ending.

I can remember being drenched in sweat when I finished that section, it was so intense. It took me a couple of tries as well, but some friends and my sister were around so when I finally did it, there was all the more celebration for it. Didn't last long though, not with that ending. :(
And by the way, if you insist on doing it on hard difficulty, then you're just a masochist who has no right to complain when things get out of your league.

It's actually not that hard if you know their spawn locations and quickly dispatch the hunters.

It was pretty hard my first time around but with with subsequent playthrough, I found it more fun and intense.

Hell if Half life 2 is pissing you off, god help you if you play Dark Souls.

Uh, dude... if the hunters are destroying your bombs then have considered, y'know...killing the hunters first?

1. Grab a bomb, stick it on the car. Drive to a cluster of hunters/strider.

2. Kill the hunters. Run them over, rocket them, energy ball them, crossbow them, toob them, magnum them, gravity gun them, whatever. Those methods all work.

3. Stick the strider and detonate.

4. Repeat.

Oh and fun fact: If you think it's frustrating as it is now, consider that they originally designed that level to have combine troops screening the hunters.

I don't remember that part in the game being that hard.

Of course I had a strategy guide of that game at the time, so I guess that kinda helped.

Go to console, enter:
"sk_strider_num_missiles1 1" (this will make it so that Striders die in one rocket hit)
"sk_strider_num_missiles2 1" (the other two will ensure uniformity in all difficulty modes)
"sk_strider_num_missiles3 1"
"sk_max_rpg_round 99" (this will change your ammo maximum for the RPG)

Neither of those are cheats, they are client-side variables and will not disable Achievements. You'll still have to be on your toes though, and have to deal with the Hunters if they get in the way. Quick-save frequently, and good luck! (For PC at least :)

I expected this to be more a "This game was too damn short, I felt so cheated and I had to cart that damn gnome everywhere because I'm an achievement whore."

Not this. Calm down, go to bed, wake up, and kick its ass. Its not as hard as you'd think.

Yeah... you should probably say "360 version" and "hardest difficulty" in your opening line. Not your final.

Half Life was always more PC based. I imagine playing it on 360 controller is like slapping your nuts across a cheese grater. And the hardest difficulty is SUPPOSED to be hard, not a walk in the park some of these games consider "hard" nowadays. It's supposed to be an accomplishment, so when you finally do it you'll be like "OMFG THAT WAS AWFUL! But I've done it now and have bragging rights and never have to do it again. Ever."

So yeah. Good luck with that.

I've been playing HL2:EP2 and I'm on the part where you have to takedown the striders with the Magnussons and it has got to be the worst, hardest, most frustrating thing I have ever played in a Half-Life ever or maybe even any shooter. Now don't get me wrong I love Half-Life and Valve and own every one of there games except Portal 2, but this is what makes me what to slap Gabe Newell so hard his eyes switch places. Your supposed to grab Magnussons (the sticky bombs) and launch them at Striders with the gravity gun while hunters shoot at you, they also shoot the bombs, Striders shoot at you and the bombs, the Striders are faster than you, the hunters are much faster than you and guard the Striders, you have to constantly grab the bomb put on the thing on the back of your car drive ALL THE WAY over to FUCKING Strider and then your bomb gets blown the FUCK up and you have to drive all the way FUCKING back and get DAMN bomb.To me that is just frustration in its purest form and it doesn't help when the car you drive is so twitchy that driving it feels like you pulling teeth, and trying to kill hunters feels like I'm lacerating my own genitals with a rusty tin can. I just hope that HL2:EP3 when it comes out in 2045 it will have balanced levels and fights, but what I want to know is what your experience with this level was like and if share the same frustration with me.Oh and I'm playing the 360 version because this is before I had Steam (which is awesome) and therefore cannot use cheats and also I'm on the hardest difficulty.
Dude, it's the final section of the game. Of course it's meant to be fucking hard! It's basically a final test for everything you learned about Hunters throughout the game, considering the entire game from about an hour in is all about killing either Combine or Hunters.

I remember finding it difficult too, but once you get into your "I am not going to let this fucking game beat me!" zone you can win by sheer frustration.

It's perfectly do-able if you plan out your moves; Pick up Magnusson Device, put on car, drive over Hunters first (If not possible, step out and just shoot), make sure a magnusson teleporter is close by before attacking the strider, fire the device at the strider, pull out pistol and shoot. Rinse, repeat.

It also helps if you make use of reference points so you won't take the wrong turns to save time, like the mountain in the background, the train tracks, etc.

Also, it doesn't dent any pride if you just lower the difficulty.
