Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the 3rd- Sorry, 4th instalment in the Elder Scrolls series. (Still trying to forget that Morrowind ever existed). ES4 (Elder Scrolls IV) is a revolutionary RPG that brings gaming to a whole new level.... But even the greatest games have their flaws. By all means, im not saying ES4 is BAD, im just saying its not the offspring of God himeslf as so many RPG fans claim.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great. Combat is easy to understand, seeing as its basicly two or three buttons being smashed in quick succession. Magic could have used some work, but its not bad in any sense of the word. I mean, you learn a basic lightning spell, and it works pretty well. Later on in the game, you buy an upgrade for the spell. It does 15 more damage and costs 3000 more MP.... Seems like there may be some balance issues there. Sneaking seems a little difficult for my taste, but nothing a little practice cant fix.
Graphics: Oblivion looks fantastic. If you plan to run the PC version, be prepared for your video card to begin crying. The huge, open landscapes look amazing, even if it is the same landscape no matter where you go. The people in Oblivion are all unique and look great, but they all seem to soud the same to me. Im not sure why, but everyone in Oblivion seems to generate around 3 general voices. (Except for Sean Bean's character, gotta love him).
Story: The story in Oblivion could not be less original, sorry to say. Though i enjoyed playing through it 17 times (and counting) it just isnt very original. *Spoilers!* King dies, son needs to take up throne to save the world, Evil cult tries to stop him. Not much originality. *End spoilers!* Its not a bad story, it just could have used some work, seeig as there are a few holes in the story; why are you in jail in the beginning? What did you do? Are we supposed to use our imagination? I dont have an imagination! I leave the imagining to the writers of these games so the RPG can do all the imagining for me! *Sigh*.
Overall, I would rate Oblivion as one of the best games I have ever played (Zelda: OoT still the best in my book). Its a great game and i would recommend it to anyone wo hasent played it. Thanks for bearing with me through this novice review of a game far beyond my skills to review.
Peace & Love,
