Wrong the worst field to study is in decreasing order:

1) Philosophy
2) Tax Law
3) Canadian studies
4) International Ocean Law (different from coastal law)
5) Semiotics
I didn't say it was the worst. Just that it was terrible. All of those sound marginally crappier than Sociology.
No, no, no, no, no, NOOOOOOO! Sociology is the worst subject I have ever had the misfortune to study for GE credits. I'm a history major and the way sociologists have to warp and pervert history in order to fit their little pet theories infuriates me to no end. They also use the longest, most complicated words and grammar for no other reason than to make their sentences obtuse and esoteric. It doesn't even help their arguments at all; it just makes their books boring and unreadable. Hell I think they even just make up words on the spot too by combining prefixes and suffixes together to make buzzwords.

Sociology has little value as a field of study that cannot be done better by other fields such as Philosophy, History, or Psychology, etc.

As a Canadian I'm torn on the Canadian studies thing. On the one hand its kind of shocking that America even notices us anymore, let alone enough to create something called Canadian Studies. On the other hand though, I don't particularly want to be studied by you lot. And semiotics is a totally legit area of study provided you never ever want to apply it outside of academia.

Now on to my own opinions:

1) Living in an apartment near a school is a terrible thing. So many screaming children all the time.
2) Apple cider is awesome, but only sweet apple cider. Mulled apple cider isn't nearly as good.
3) The only thing that keeps raspberry things from being the most amazing thing ever is the seeds, which are left in as part of the cherry and apple growers conspiracy to keep selling their pies.

I wholeheartedly agree on philosphy, stop faffing around pondering if the chair you're sat on exists or not and get a proper job.

Chocolate pretzels are a higher form of intelligence that demand we eat them.

Drop Pods are the best form of transport.

I should be appointed High Lord of Music so we can finally determine what counts.

Snipers should be deployed in all populated areas to pick off those that don't pull their bloody pants up properly, the skid mark brandishing freaks.

It is absurdly satisfying to shoot the helmets off three or four Goliaths in Borderlands 2 and then guffaw like a Looney Tunes character as they run after their fellow bandits in an orgy of profanity, gunfire and explosions.

The funniest soldier in the world is a man named Læffy.

Why? You guys study us all the time or at least you just find something about America in the news and call us stupid and fat or something. It's pretty arrogant for others to say that Americans are ignorant about other countries but dislike the fact that there are classes that teach Americans about other countries.

Also I don't know if you heard about it, but some crazy American driver killed a Mountie at the American-Canadian border a couple days ago and I'm sorry that it happened.

Mmmm. I do like the walking dead. Well, the sound of it. I haven't actually watched more than a few clips of it. I really wanna, but goddamn the DVD's are expensive, and I refuse to pirate them.

Also, I think we should make this thread about hats. I like hats. Hats are cool.

[small] I do play TF2, was it obvious? [/small]

Also I really need to change my avatar.
What is your avatar, anyways?

So let's make a fun thread without politics involved.

*SNIP*

Sociology is a terrible field to study.
*SNIP*

Tell me why I'm wrong or right. Or highjack the thread and make it something else that is entertaining.
Considering that everyone lives in society (Cause everyone does. At least, Everyone that matters.), attempting to understand the nature and logic of society, its wants, needs, its likes and dislikes, is a noteworthy thing to do.

Also it is my major.

It'll prepare you well for a career in the fast food industry. Can't say what else it might do for you, however.
Hopefully a life of research and writing books that other sociologists will read and teaching the next generation of sociologists.

Or getting involved with social policy (And going into Social Policy for my MA, if I want anyway). Or, well, a bunch of other things. One of the benefits of a broad specialisation is that it opens you up for a lot of further study and jobs and whatnot.

Yes, eventually this might lead me to get a GDL. But you will never see me behind the till at Maccy D's.

I too am a history major. Actually I'm double majoring in history and psychology with a minor in sociology.

This is my opinion as well. The more I learn about sociology, the more I don't see it as a legit science. It's just victim politics and I can't stand that. Psychology is where it's at. Hands fucking down.

How is tax law a terrible thing to study? There will always be an IRS and a need for tax filers/lawyers.
Needed =/= interesting (at least in my opinion)

I don't really have anything to add to the original discussion, so I'm just gonna say "Jimmy McMillan for President" and leave it at that.

Also, as a few others have said, pretzels are superior to any other snack food evrar.

Religious people are NERDS...

Star Trek: DS9 was, overall, a more enjoyable series then ToS, Voyager, and Enterprise.
I'm on the fence if it's less than or equal to TNG.

Short, repeatable animation. Funny.
