Can someone explain these credits? How do you get them besides shelling out cash? If you need to get money to buy credits to buy things,I see no point
It makes sense. They way it works right now is some games use said credits. Others use their own seperate form of currency. So one developer could be losing out because the player who may want to buy some virtual item has already invested $20 bucks in cafeworld for cafe bucks so they don't want to shell out another $20 to buy space bucks for space ville. So this way the player only has to buy the credits and then can use the credits to buy the space bucks and cafe bucks instead of having to invest in them seperately. 30% is a bit steep though. Although I do question how much does it cost to put up a game on FB in th first place. If there is no initial investment (besides the money invested in the actual development) than it is steep but not completely unwarranted.

Some games will allow you to earn them. Play so many days in a row, stuff like that. And you get 5 just for signing up in facebook (I got 5 but I have no idea where they came from) or something. But if you want anything worthwhile you will be paying or playing til the end of time. And you use said credits/bucks to buy the cool stuff. Sure you can buy those pink jammies with the ingame currency (the free ones that you earn while playing which are different from the "bucks" or credits) but if you want the ninja outfit well that is going to cost you credits or bucks or whatever that game uses that costs real money.

For example Cafe World has Cafe bucks which you buy or earn 1 or 2 every once in a while. It uses coins for ingame currency. That is the money you earn for playing regularly and use to buy more stuff to sell to your customers and decorate your cafe. But all the best decorations cost bucks not coins. You can also use bucks to finish missions instead of begging for the items from other people and stuff like that. So if you are running out of time to say finish a catering order you can buy your way to victory instead.

Don't ask me how I know this. It is so very wrong that I do. So very, very wrong.

Bad for the consumer too, it will drive the prices up. Facebook is the only winner here.

see children this is why you dont use facebook. And why i never have and never will
I'm totally being the devil's advocate here, but I have a love/hate thing going on with Facebook. I use it to network with local Models, other Photographers, Designers and Multimedia Geeks as well as the odd client or two, and through this networking I have become deeply involved with the Multimedia Production of the King of the Ring MMA fights, so I can't say that Facebook is useless, but I don't waste my time with any of the games or other distracting crap that comes with it. Its bad enough that I'm on my third run through of Mass Effect just to see if I can get into Liara's pants, I won't spend all of my time every day checking my fucking crops.

I despise Mark Pincus (Founder of Zynga, creator of the time/life/productivity sucking Farmville among others) and his ilk, not because they got rich doing something that I didn't think of, but because they did it through any means necessary, which included screwing a lot of people over with fine print bullshit and creating a series of games so mind numbingly banal yet so horrifyingly addictive and widespread as to nearly be part of our culture, but at what cost?

In his TED talk, Seth Priebatsch [http://www.ted.com/talks/seth_priebatsch_the_game_layer_on_top_of_the_world.html] talks about the "Game Layer on Top of the World" and how it can be both a powerful tool for creativity, marketing and information sharing, but how it can also be used for evil, as in the complete waste of time that is Farmville. I highly recommend watching the video, he has a lot of interesting points to make about how engaged people become when a "game layer" is introduced to different parts of our lives.

As far as this Facebook Credits crap goes, it doesn't affect me at all.
