I consider it positive. I think it is a little sad for people to go round adding people randomly just so it looks like they are popular. You shouldn't judge how sociable/likeable you are by your number of "friends" on a social networking site.

Hell, I have been added by people I knew in school who I couldn't stand and from what I was aware, didn't like me much either. Needless to say I declined.
Cool, thanks.

Yes, one of the things that has been bugging me is a friend from my old school is trying to contact me, and is even talking to my sister to get my contact details... but I think sometimes the past should just stay in the past.

I quit. If you don't know how to actually quit, as opposed to just freeze your account and let them keep your data in the system, contact me. It's difficult, and it takes 14 days for it to actually come into effect. The bastards.

I have around 300 friends, but most of them are people I completely can't stand. I'm having a huge Facebook friend cleanup once I graduate from high school.

Bah, when you see some who has a couple of hundred friends on Facebook, you can guarantee that they probably only actually know a very small number of them. I have, what maybe about 10(ish) friends on facebook.

That's one of the things I really dislike about social networking sites...the apparent "need" to add everyone you've ever met as a friend. I very rarely use Facebook anyway, only if I have something really important to add as an update or if another friend comes up with something equally earth shattering.

So yeh, I wouldn't worry about this sort of thing. I'd rather have 10 real friends as opposed to 400 acquaintances.

I haven't been on facebook for about 3 months because I think it's a colossal waste of time. If I want to talk to my friends I'll IM them and organise some time to hang out. I don't really care about the other acquaintances I have on there.

I have aound 150 "friends" including family. Most of these are old classmates and where added as some of them used facebook to arrange a class reunion.

I don't talk with most of them but if a new reunion or something like it comes up it is easy to arrange.

I use facebook on a regular basis actually. I use it to speak to my friends using the chat function, and I love sharing my fav youtube clips with it. It's interesting that I'm really the only one here so far to claim to use it regularly or at all... or maybe the gaming crowd isn't it's demographic.

I'm not actually friends with quite a few of the people that are my 'friends' on Facebook, but I think having more Facebook friends gives a more social feel to using the social networking site.

I have like a hundred, no I don't talk to all of them ALL the time, but hey it's enjoyable to get in touch with a random person every now and then just to wish them a happy birthday or crap like that

I have 82 friends, most of which are acquaintances from school. Only a handful (I'm guessing 8 to 12) are actually friends or people I contact. The others just clutter up my news feed.

I have 115 friends/family. I don't talk to all of them, but I have them there as a way to contact them if the time arises.

i usually accept invites, it doesn't mean i contact those people, but you never know when it might come in handy to contact a certain person.
Me too.

On second thought, I have almost two hundred. Weird. But I only talk to about five or six people regularly, though.

I don't see how people can have upwards of like five or six hundred. It seems to me like they're the ones who are ashamed of their friend count.

Because that amount of people is even more than my graduating high school class.

Hmm, I'm not leaving just yet, but this would be good to know when I'm finally done with it.

*EDIT* 600th post

Facebook is a ridiculous "friend" collecting contest. Whenever I see someone with 300+ friends I think "Really? ALL of those people are your friends?" I refuse to be involved in this e-penis competition.

I have about 80 friends on facebook. 40 of them are friends, 40 of them are people I grew up with and two of them are internet celebrities.

I only really talk to the 40 or so friends occasionally, I dislike facebook chat. I usually talk to my friends over msn or xbox live. I tend to only contact them over facebook when it's to do with parties or stuff like that.

I have about 120 friends because of my policy of "If I know who they are, then I accept their request". I only talk to about 15 of them.
