Facebook is too popular for the hipster crowd, and any semi-obscure alternative is more attractive to them. Whether it's better or worse is not relevant. It's the same thing with Firefox and Chrome (or rather, it was the same deal when Chrome first came out and Firefox was still the best browser; now it's just a bloated piece of trash and Chrome really is the best browser).
I have never used Google+ so I don't really know what it's like, but the friends who've talked about moving over have never been able to say why.
Sure, some of the new 'features' on facebook should absolutely be optional, the utterly retarded chat-bar being a prime example. Still, all my friends are on facebook, and none of the features are deal breakers, and with applications like FB Purity and AdBlocker I can filter out everything I'm not interested in.
Google+, from what I've seen/heard, seems like an attempt at cashing in on facebooks success, by adding some gimmicks and renaming some features to make them look more appealing/new. It's the same shit, just a different wrapping. And nobody uses it, which sort of renders it pointless.
