Other than getting in touch with past friends, family, or talking to someone not nearby, what is it for? I really don't want to know that your at the mall with your friends. why do I need to know that. Kid's and teens are on it for no reason at all. I have a teenage cousin who is ibon there 24/7. She doesn't do anything but get test answers, and gossip. And all that gossip allways gets her into fights at school.

Allowing people to post 21 new photos when they so much as go to the store.

Or post lyrics that are "life changing".

It's another medium through which you can communicate with friends, family, acquaintances, etc. If you're sick of people posting crap on facebook, defriend them. You control whose posts you see.

It's something for women and kids to go mad for, whilst all the blokes pretend to care before abandoning.

I use it to communicate with people and keep in touch easily. I don't want everyone having my mobile number.

I also use it for a lot of active private groups, good way to talk to people without having to have them as a friend and see all my stuff if I don't want to add them.

you can use it to stalk people or post stuff and think you change the world/save lifes (ex. like this if you want to stop AIDS/world hunger/herpes)

I use at as an organiser basically. If you want to have a party for example, it's easier to just start an event than to individually phone everybody. And then you always miss someone, and then it gets awkward.

When did all the hipsters decide it was cool to hate on Facebook, anyway? Just sort of popped up overnight. Damn hipsters trying to look aloof. They make me so mad >:/

I use it to post cool scenes from Game of Thrones in my not so subtle attempts to get it more viewers. Other than that it's mostly for talking shit.

It's for reading epic Facebook fights while eating popcorn.
Saw a girl break up with her boyfriend over Facebook once. It was awesome.

personalized advertising, collecting data about your socio-economic and political background, giving the human resources department from your next employer something to laugh about and some say it might be used to communicate and stuff...

To rant and post passive aggressive status's because you don't have the balls to say it to peoples faces.
For 15 year old mums to post how proud they are to be a mother and cram the news feed with every single update about what their child is doing.

I don't hate it, I just don't like some of the people I've experienced.
It's quite good for seeing who else is going to events, I met a lot of cool people at Manchester MCM and they were able to find and add me because of the MCM group on there.
It was also good for when I moved away to keep in touch with family back home without spending loads on phone bills.

I use it to keep in touch. Sometimes I might post a status or two.
Luckily I only have 30-something friends, so there's no stupid drama going on.

I find all the irrational hate towards it kind of hilarious. Complaining about dumb morons they sorta know posting 100 pictures that nobody cares about and making a status update involving lyrics to a song WHILE HAVING FULL CONTROL OVER WHO THEY FRIEND and still bitching about it like that one person is the same as everyone else who uses the site. Its quite hilarious. It is what you make of it after all.

I use it to see what my family and friends are doing. Its interesting sometimes to see what people post and what they're up to without having to call them 24/7. Also it helps me keep tabs on updates for movies, bands, games, internet peoples that I like.

I use my facebook friend count to base my self worth on.

As well as keeping in touch with old friends and other such useless stuff.

You have a good point, but the problem for me was that I saw all of these people at school, and quite often they would get a little bit annoyed with me for defriending them. Or maybe quite a bit annoyed, if they were one of the people for who their own personal self worth was measured by the number of friends they have.
I also found that as far as my group was concerned, defriending anyone for any reason was considered very bad ettiquette. It was fine for people who I didn't see daily though.
