I use it as my own personal forum of sorts. It's nice to be able to post a status update asking for opinions, advice, etc. on topics I'm interested in. I also use it to show people videos of stuff that I've done that is awesome (ie: radio shows I've hosted, martial arts competitions, etc.). That, and it's pretty much my sole method of communication for everyone I don't see at work or the gym, seeing as how 99% of the time, everyone else lives too far away or has work schedules that conflict with mine.

It's another medium through which you can communicate with friends, family, acquaintances, etc. If you're sick of people posting crap on facebook, defriend them. You control whose posts you see.
Pretty much this. Also, blaming facebook for people posting mundane status updates and other stupid shit is like blaming violent video games for stupid people playing them and committing violent crimes. Oh, and facebook is an excellent tool for police to use to hunt down stupid criminals. I heard this news story where some dumb criminal posted that he thought he was going to get away with some crime on someone else's wall. Some anonymous third party showed that post to the police, who hauled the sucker's ass off to jail.

It's social technology to turn today's young people into addicts. Just another screen for the mindlesss drones with no imagination to stare at. When it comes time to really know something, US kids place 17th alongside 34 other countries in science.

All the smart phones, apps and social technology are making the kids dumber than a box of rocks. There's nothing intelligent about that technology, it's screens with bright, colorful buttons to push. Pretty sure a chimp could figure it out.

See ... I can stay in contact with people via phone, email and twitter. Why on Earth would I use Facebook, a pile of steaming bullshit with advertisements on the best odor to make that steaming pile of bullshit smell better.

Seriously, I have yet to see an advantage of Facebook that outweighs the privacy issues, pretentiousness and retardism of people there.

Might be due to the fact that I consider everyone an idiot until proven otherwise, though ... Oh well ...

To read stupid bimbo statuses and laugh at how stupid and self centred they are.

Oh and to communicate over the internet with several people at once through instant messaging or through status updates, that too.

A handy ego-shrine to promote yourself in the best way possible. It's a good way to pretend you're the most interesting person possible and everything you do is pure gold. And a bit of messaging, that too.

Most of the blokes I do work or projects with do not know how to utilize other chat programmes except FB. So I have to bear it.

Allowing people to post 21 new photos when they so much as go to the store.

Or post lyrics that are "life changing".
Don't forget obvious and tired clichés that are allegedly "inspirational."

Me, I use it to see what's going on in my friends' lives, since I only actually hang out with one of my friends.

Oh, this is obvious. Its clearly used by the government to track your every move. Everything you like, dislike, love, hate, know, and learn is monitored on Facebook. This information is collected, so that, in the future, when the internet is about to become obsolete by another new form of intercommunication (I don't know what) that is about to be released, the government can use Facebook to hypnotize you and keep you on the internet for the rest of your life. Why do they want you on the internet and not on this new tech? Because the internet is where they've put all their spying power into, and to take it out of the internet and into this new system will be too costly, so they think that just brainwashing you to the internet is the best solution.

Its also a way to blackmail, blacklist, spy on, and investigate people. Eat your heart out Telescreens!

... With onions!

It would be great to keep track of people from school. If I actually cared about them.

Facebook is for stalking women if you're a male.

If you're a woman, it's for complaining, a vanity enhancer, moaning about being single, and rejecting male romantic advances.

I use FB purely to keep track of a few video game developers, especially if they're about to release a new game. I don't use it for socializing at all.

Except for the part where you all meet up in the pub after arranging it on Facebook
Still not a reason to call this place anti-social just because people would prefer to just call or text people to arrange a meeting.

Err to keep up to date what's going on with your friend and family to a certain degree (not up to date as in 24/7 and every minute). I don't exactly keep in touch with most of my friends except for my best friends so it's somewhat handy for me (just like to know what they're doing every now and then but not all the time).
The same thing can be said about the photos too as my parent often like to see photos of our relatives which the olden way was for them to post the photo (when I mean relative I mean the ones who lived in the US or Asia).
