Not everything is great, mass murder justifiyed by religious/shallow reasons, racial hatred based only on the fact that the person has a differant skin color than your own, war over petty disputes, diseases that could be cured easily are left unchecked in some parts of the world, famine from crop diseases that could have been prevented if they had the same technology as we have and the ice-capdes. Some shit is just plain fucked up. Luckily there are also good things, too many and too unknown of to count, we really like to hear about what a shithole planet Earth is on the news don't we? Why do we find dirty news so facinating?

I'm frequently disappointed by humanity, but I know that a large part of that is because of how loud the worst elements of humanity are compared to the good.

I know that, as a race we can do anything and no matter what, I see that we're on the way forward. We're more peaceful and progressive than at any time before, and even the slides backwards are minute compared to the overall rate of progress.

It's just not always easy to keep that in mind when I hear news of some atrocity. I'd say my faith in humanity hovers at about 80% because of that.

im afraid, in the long run, im gonna have to say 0, lets face it, we're not gonna save this planet so our only hope of survival is developing space travel and, given our current progress and the rate at which we corrupt our world, the maths just dont come out positive :(

as for the other question

lose faith- the bullcrap excuses people these days have for racism, and the light hearted way they look at it
gain faith- im gonna have to say the master-piece mangas the japanese come out with, just finished reading "seven ocean", i almost cried T~T

about 25 ill say. im my opinion the human race is one of the most stupid animals. the only reason why we are so tech advanced is because of our imagination and not our intellect.

I have to say I am an very idealistic person, and even /b/ has had their moments of good. I genuinely believe that Rousseau was right. 95/100.

To quote him:
"We interupt your favourite show to bring you this special news announcment....EVERYTHING'S FINE, EVERYTHING'S GREAT!"

But anyway, Humanity as a collective is a glorious thing, bad things happening is irrelevent to our might, our ability to create, destroy and control, the many things we can accomplish and the many things we have accomplished.
This makes so much sense... My "faith" in humanity has just risen to about 80%
Thanks for that.

It depends entirely on what you spend your time doing. No, really. I don't watch the news, I don't listen to the radio other than music, and I immerse myself in only the best movies, books, video games and TV that I can gather. I avoid internet forums. Most importantly, I read sci-fi, which always posits the possibility that we can reach the stars and beyond.

There will always be a few kitten-drowners in the lot (BTW, kitties are immortal and can't die or feel pain and I will kill you if you lie and say otherwise), but I know that our works will be more important than our personal failings, and that we can literally do anything as a race given enough time. If I didn't have the imagination to see something like that on the horizon and could only see my neighbours and the criminals of the country, then it might be different.

Hovering at 85% for faith in humanity.

This is what happens when a pessimist (myself) and a positive person have a conversation. But your not a happy-go-stupid person, your giving good reasons. Still humans can do some fucked up things when we put our minds to it. But we can also do some great things as well.

Seeing what kind of people I will have as coworkers one day makes me feel sad inside. Seeing the kinds of people that will be working under me one day makes me even sadder. My faith for the future of humanity is quite low.

There is rarely a day that goes by that I don't see, hear, or read something that reminds me why I love my fellow man:

-More and more denominations of different faiths are increasingly acknowledging, accepting, and embracing LGBT people.
-Dictators have shown that they can be level-headed, reasonable, practical, and merciful.
-Religious leaders are learning how to get along.
-People are starting to learn how to apply morality and virtue to secularism, independent of religion.
-Governments are steadily starting to recognize the importance of peace and disarmament.
-Everyday people give each other aid, encouragement, love, and a shoulder to cry on all the time.

Misanthropes just don't know how to act towards their fellow man and are thus disappointed when they don't conform to their preconceptions about what they should be. I rejoice in mankind; if we've made it this far, there's truly nothing we can't do!

My overall faith in humanity on a 0-100 scale?

100.

We aren't always pretty, we aren't always nice but we are the most glorious thing to ever be. We aren't perfect but nor should we be, all the horrible thinghs we've ever done add to our splendor just as much as all the positive things. Humans are the best and we just keep getting better.

I'm not sure about my faith in humanity, but I find it interesting that people who say they lose it are referencing places like America or what have you. America (where I live) has some pretty stupid things happen in it, but you know what? There's still no genocide, stoning of women, etc. Then there are places where that stuff is a daily occurrence but no one really pays attention because it happened/started happening 5 years ago.

I wonder if we took in humanity globally where people's faith would reside. I'm guessing it would lower a bit... or a lot.

In any case, we're still here, so we must be doing something right.

Here's my worst. Whenever I hear the WBC (Worthless Bastards Church as I like to call them) protest another funeral of a dead soldier, AIDs patient, famous person, denounce another peoples faiths or insult a country in the name of their violent hateful "god" I'm at a loss as how these people haven't been shot considering how America is sterotyped as having a thousand fucking rednecks with a thousand fucking guns and how those types of people are patriotic to the point of stupidity. So the fact that the WBC hasen't been attacked by an angry mob pisses me off, those assholes shouldn't even be protected by free speech, what they do is a hate speech.
Angry mobs are not the answer...

Also, you've got to remember, the WBC is like... 50 people. If you want to get an idea of media hysteria, just think about that. These 50 people acting like asshats get extensive news coverage, while the millions of other practicing religious types, who go to their church/mosque/synagogue every week get none.

The people that say they are losing faith in humanity are almost invariably the ones examining humanity by its lowest rungs. It would be like if every time Uwe Boll released a film people proclaimed "I'm losing my faith in movies".

Good will always be there, bad will always be there. Its just how the world works.
It may be better to examine humanity by its lowest rungs. Think about it this way, you build a skyscraper and the bottom is faulty. That skyscraper isn't going stay up if its lowest part can't keep it up/support it. The positives of humanity cant stay up forever if our worst parts are greater than our good. If we can change/get rid of stupid people, then maybe I can have some hope for humanity, otherwise its pointless.

See something like this, I can talk to you because you showed maturity and the ability to respectfully accept that I'm Christian. And for that i respect you!
Really, it would be a very nice thing if this is how religious discussion went. Ah well.

OT: Humanity does some twatty things, but there's usually billions of people doing non-twatty things, right at the same time. Really, what makes me lose hope for humanity amounts to these three professions.

Lawyer, journalist/media tycoon, and not so much politicians, but yeah, they'll get lumped in too (I mean, who the hell wants to govern in Australia when they could be having a bit more fun? And I'm also looking at you, Michael Gove, you arse).

I'm not fond of CEOs much either (seems I've listed the anything-for-money brigade here), but nicer guys like Warren Buffet do exist.

I'll give it a reasonable 50.

Religous nuts and PETA along with a few others that just make me shake my head.
There are two religous nuts that comes into my work, I work in a bookstore. The one man likes to put them cruddy pocket guides of why your going to hell in front of books. Like manga, smut books, almost all the horror novels, and any book that has a swear word on the cover ( good bye humor books). The other nut likes to talk to everyone in our store about why our religon is wrong. She's just crazy, but people will listen and agree with her.
Right now I'm 50/50.
