Fake Idle Server for weapons and hats, without actually running TF2?

I've just stumbled upon this:

Basically you open Steam and your friends list, run the program and it throws you into a fake TF2 server without actually running TF2!

So you can keep it open and get weapons and hats!

Its also not affected by VAC (see comments section in link).

Its interesting how it works. However, I am concerned that it basically accessing your account, but when the linked thread had over 220 pages of positive comments I'd say it works.

It's not cheating, 10000 people are using it at the moment and they can't get VAC banned for doing it.

you see dude you dont share things like this on here because
A) its probably classed as cheating people at the escapist dont like cheaters
B) it will probably get u banned after a while because ur exploiting a system bad idea

Hmm, sounds like a pretty lame way of doing it. Does anyone know if there is any method to unlocking hats? Is it based on your playtime (eg. more hours = higher chance of getting a hat) or is it totally random, and not based on anything?

They found a loophole in the rules. It doesn't mean it's not cheating. It's just a more clever version of cheating. But they're still getting rewards for doing nothing...that's not how the game is supposed to work.

Well, you should read the rules. It clearly says no advertising. That doesn't mean that as soon as you find something you think 'OMG! EVERYBODY ON DEE ESCAYPIST WUD LUV DIS!!!!!' Keep this up and it's a one way trip to ban town.

Only thing this thing does is making a server which you basicly sit afk in for as long as you want. Nothing less, nothing more, you could theoretically host your own and sit in that, this one only has room for more players at once. And seriously people, it's just hats. Everyone got the weapons anyway, so I doubt it's for those.

Those bloody hats do nothing, I'm amazed they've casued this much drama.

Oh, and this might be seen as advertising, so I'd suggest removign the links at least.
