Are you ready for the best Left 4 Dead game mod yet? If you are keep reading, if not; keep reading anyway, at least you may get some giggles out of this.
What you need
NOTHING, how great is that? This game mod of Left 4 Dead is already contained inside the game itself; all you need is your own innovation and mal-intent
What is it?
Fall Behind Left Behind (hence forth FBLB) was a game concept some friends of mine and myself came up with; sick of playing games of L4D as an organized 3 man team which resulted in us winning by scores consistently as high as 10X that of our opponents. A peculiarity that often resulted in entire enemy teams rage quitting and thus ending games prematurely. We decided to manufacture a game mode that allowed us to still have fun, while keeping scores closer together, allowing for a more enjoyable play experience for all. But how to do it?
Originally the concept birthed from same team griefing, especially when we ended up on separate teams in a game where one team was clan heavy. A well organized team can easily come undone with the loss of even a single player, but what?s more shattering then losing a single player? Having that single player negatively impact on the rest of the team in a way more subtle and dangerous then just shooting them in the back with an auto-shotty. We quickly discovered that when one player rushes ahead of the rest of their team, and goes out of his way to disadvantage them. (I.e, shooting car alarms, closing doors, making tanks spawn, wasting grenades) It can make even the most heavily clan stacked game more balanced, and thus the concept for FBLB was born.
How to play it?
For FBLB to be played properly one player on the survivor team must, at the start of a round call out ?Fall Behind Left Behind? Note, it is proper etiquette to wait until your entire team is actually in the game before calling this, as it makes this game mode fairer on everyone. Also FBLB must be called at the start of each new round.
After FBLB is called, the team of survivors should then open the door and run as fast as they possibly can towards the safety room, not stopping for anything. It is completely acceptable to try and dodge around tanks and witches in an attempt to ignore, them all together as fighting them will almost defiantly slow you down and mean you wont be able to reach the sweet candy in the safe house.
In FBLB you must still try to exhibit some form of survival decorum. If a team mate is incapacitated within your Line of Sight by a special infected, (I.E hunter pounce, smoker tongue) then you are morally obliged to try and save them from the infected that has/have attacked them, this however does not need to entail walking towards them. If you unload an entire clip form where you are and are unable to save your bewildered team mate, then alas, at least you tried. But in certain situations it is in your own best interest to save the other survivors as you will probably need them as zombie bait later. Also if you are completely stationary, say for example in a finale, or the crescendo event in NM act 4, then there is no reason to not save them.
If you are incapacitated by a special infected out of the Line of Sight of all the other survivors, then congratulations, you have officially fallen behind, you may now reap the benefits of your tardiness with a quick death.
It is entirely acceptable to shut doors in your team mates faces; as well as shot and kill Boomers to force them to explode on other survivors and subsequently turn those survivors into zombie bait.
You may not however willfully harm other survivors (either with friendly fire, grenades, or detonating the gas station in NM act 3.) believe me, there are enough zombies out there to do that for you.
When to play?
Generally this game mode will only work if you are part of an organized team, and are confident in your abilities to destroy the other team you are playing against. The best sign of this is if they went before you in act 1 of NM or BH and the entire enemy team was wiped (even more so if it was done without the use of a tank.)
You may also want to call FBLB if you are playing with just a single friend, and are teamed with two players whom are negative impacting on your team, but who will not vote kick each other. By calling FBLB you need worry about your dead weight no more, they can worry about each other while you rush of to harvest sweet candy from the safety room.
Why to play?
Because it will make the game more enjoyable for your opponents.. and.. well probably not so for your teammates who are unaware of what they are about to get into. But if they understand the rules then they may too get into it. Trust me; there is nothing more entertaining then watching 4 survivors work against each other in a co-op heavy game.
