Most of the time I tend to put on youtube on my phone. Find either some really quite message videos or Zit popping videos. I also put on ambient music. More so the albums designed to put you to sleep like the liquid mind series. It puts me out. I'll also fall asleep if I'm watching a documentary if I'm already tired. I know I'm weird. Just work with me here.

Since I usually don't go to sleep till 5 am, I always wait till 4:30 or so to eat so that I have a full belly. I always sleep better that way.

My sleep cycles are pretty crappy to be honest. I just try to tire myself out and relax before bed. If i am more than an hour getting to sleep, I get up and do something else to distract me.

I cannot to save my life get more than 3-4 hours at a stretch and five hours total is what I consider a good night's rest. I'll try that hibiscus tea that someone mentioned. The next time change is coming up soon and the spring forward often ruins me for a month.

I've had insomnia for years now, so I feel your pain. I've always slept best when I'm outside, living in a tent (given the spring and summer months, finding me in a proper bed is fairly rare). When that's not an option I play cricket and campfire sounds, and I'm usually out like a light.

I haven't suffered from serious bouts of insomnia since university when life was a stressful wreck.

All I did was not force it. If I lied down for 15 minutes and felt like I wasn't going to drift to sleep I'd simply get up and work on school stuff. Typically reading boring and uninteresting textbooks for a couple hours would leave me ready to sleep again. At which point I'd lay down, turn on the tv for some background noise. Set the tv sleep timer for 30 minutes, put a shirt over the tv to dim it's brightness and try again.

Rinse and repeat until success.
