So, I'd like to grab one of the fallout 3 dlc packs, but I'm unsure of which one I should get. I'm currently leaning towards Operation Anchorage, but I'd like your opinions as well.

Broken Steel is fantastic, Point Lookout is great, and I haven't played any of the others. I've heard that operation anchorage isn't that good, but it does have some pretty awesome equipment, including the winterized T-51b armour that never degrades.

Operation Anchorage is a terrible mission that goes on too long. Railroaded, and removes most conventions of Fallout 3 that made it enjoyable. Unless glitched there is no loot until after you beat it, whereupon you get the usual assortment of game breakers.

I've played all of them besides Mothership Zeta, so let me give you a brief rundown of them:

Operation: Anchorage - Fairly boring quests, but you'll get some really good gear afterwards, including a set of glitched power armor that doesn't get damaged, and the Chinese Stealth Suit. I personally don't recommend it though, as it's actually pretty boring compared to the others.

The Pitt - One of the most fun of the four I've played, and gives you some really cool gear, like the Metal Blaster, the Auto-Axe, and the Tribal Power Armor. The missions and the story are really good and I highly recommend this.

Broken Steel - If you can only get one, get this one. It extends Fallout 3 so that you can play past the terrible ending, it raises the level cap to 30, adds perks, new quests, new locations, and a fairly cool extension to the story as well as some cool equipment.

Point Lookout - This has fun quests, but the equipment you get from it blows. It's sort of favoring horror a little more (It's still not really "scary", but it's trying to be), and it gives you a very big (Maybe about a quarter of the size of the Fallout 3 main world) new map to play around in.

If I had to rate them in the order of what to get it'd be:

1. Broken Steel
2. The Pitt
3. Point Lookout
4. Operation: Anchorage (While the equipment is good, the whole point is just that it isn't nearly as fun as the other 3)

If you're getting one of the retail DLC packs (Either Anchorage and The Pitt or Broken Steel and Point Lookout) get Broken Steel and Point Lookout. It'll give you much more bang for your buck, and while I LOVED The Pitt, Anchorage just weighs the first pack down too much. Go for Steel and Lookout.

I never played Mothership Zeta, although I heard it wasn't too good.

I myself think that Broken Steel is your best bet, because it raises the level cap and improves upon the Fallout 3 ending, but for fun, I think that Point Lookout is the best. I didn't like the Pitt and mothership Zeta all that much

I wrote this for someone else a while ago in a private message. I think i'll just repost it here because my opinions have not changed:

Operation Anchorage: Has some awesome items you get in the end, and the setting is kinda cool. But, for RPG elements, its rather limited. Fun if you like to kill lots of Chinese Communists for some reason (I do).

The Pitt: My personal favorite in terms of storyline, but its too damn short. An awesome setting and a major moral dilemma choice make it very memorable. My favorite for story/atmosphere, but it could have been much better.

Broken Steel: 10 more levels, the main quest gets extended, and you can play beyond the ending. If you had to get one DLC, this is the one to get. The Broken Steel story is interesting, even if the new enemies are rather obnoxious (too much health).

Point Lookout: The DLC with the most "open-ended" atmosphere to it. Its a truly unique experience, and it has one of the most badass characters I have ever seen in a game (Desmond Lockheart). Combat is rough, but this is a good one.

Mothership Zeta: I don't like this one. No way getting around it. Its basically just like Operation Anchorage except it is less immersive. Just a run and gun fest with no real RPG elements to speak of. The worst of the DLC's, and i'm not the only one who thinks so.

If you had to choose? My opinion goes like this:

1. Broken Steel
2. The Pitt and/or Point Lookout
3. Operation Anchorage
4. Getting hit with a blunt instrument
5. Mothership Zeta

I'm in the middle of mothership zeta and having a lot of fun, but I just hate how durable the aliens are, I have to paralyzing palm them then unload with the terrible shotgun.

I haven't gone to the Pitt yet but I've heard good things.

operation Anchorage was fun at first but get tedious very quickly.

Point Lookout seemed good but I got horribly massacred by the ghoul reavers, forgot to save and had to start from the boat.

Broken steel was pretty great and I loved all the little mini-quests added to the already familiar areas like the aqua cura salesman.

Point Lookout-Huge new area, many side quests, new weapons/ Broken Steel-Higher level cap, more story line, side quests, few new weapons/ Mothership Zeta- New weapons, new area/ Operation: Anchorage- New virtual area, new armor and weapons/ The Pitt- New weapons, side quests, semi-horror in the Steelyard in a dark room.

Out of all of them, Mothership Zeta and Operation Anchorage looked the most interesting. I've never gotten a chance to play them, however, because my 2nd Fallout 3 GotY disk with the DLC's refused to work.

Hmm, Now it seems like getting the pitt and broken steel seems like the best choice. Before I finalize my choice and grab those two, does anyone else have any last minute advice?

Pack light when going to The Pitt, because you'll be getting a LOT of crap there. Also, don't be afraid to go after some extra Steel Ingots, the rewards are often well worth it.

As for Broken Steel, use your new 10 levels wisely, and when on the final base area, take time to explore, because you won't be able to go back once you've left.

Wait for the GOTY edition to go on sale again and get it all for $25?
That's what I did, although I haven't played the DLC yet.

One last question, would you say the chinese stealth armor justifies the subpar quality of Operation: Anchorage?

No, it doesn't. The Winterized T-51b and the CSS are the only really good parts of Anchorage, but it's not worth $10 for.

The Winterized T-51b is broken because Bethesda put the simulation version in the armory instead of the normal version by mistake, so it never deteriorates (The suit has like 10 million HP and the helmet has like 1 million HP)

The Stealth Suit is broken because if you get 100 Stealth, Silent Running, and a silenced weapon, you're undetectable. You can kill any enemy without ever arousing suspicion, taking them down with a series of stealth attacks.

Still, they're not worth $10 and going through the missions for all your characters. Take The Pitt, Broken Steel, maybe Point Lookout, and ditch Anchorage and Zeta.
