My usual load out is this:

Ol' Painless (a personal fave - I love hunting rifles though I know they aren't the strongest)
AE-21 Plasma Rifle
Terrible Shotgun
Reservist Rifle
Xualong Chinese Assault Rifle
Shishkebab

Sometimes I like the Tesla Cannon, but it's hardly ever in my load out.

I don't like Pistols or Big guns. Both are mostly useless.
You should find Lincoln's repeater if you like hunting rifles. Inside the museum of history, it uses .44 ammo and has perfect accuracy. As in, where you aim it bullets will go exactly there. Also, it does MAJOR damage.
Have it, along with every other possible rare weapon in a locker in my home in Megaton. I'm a hoarder by nature (too many RPGs for this kid) and since the Lincoln uses rarer + more expensive .44 magnum bullets, as opposed to common .32 Caliber, it sits in pristine condition as a mere trophy.

Yup, I'm crazy like that. It took the expansion packs (read: new deadlier critters) to make me pull out the AE-21 Plasma Rifle and put it into my load out. The AE-21 also went unused, as a trophy, since I had all the firepower I needed.

You should see my house in Skingrad in Oblivion... (rare books stacked neatly on the shelves {this took hours of painstacking Analog stick waggling and nudging}, rare weapons, the first weapon I used and other notable items in trophy cases, the two magic Elven Crowns on the nightstand near my bed, etc). I even had a trophy case filled to the brim with jewels except it was causing major slowdown so I stuffed 'em in a closed treasure box instead near the treasure box filled with Sigil Stones... Either way, my house in Skingrad is an epic testament to my compulsive hoarding.
I just received the AE-21 Plasma Rifle today, it's amazing how much content this game actually has. I did the replicated man quest in this file and I chose the
Getting Harkness to let me kill Zimmer
ending. It is an awesome gun.

Energy weapons. I can't let all those beautiful MF cells go to waste, can I?
Besides, it makes me feel like I'm some kind of alien here to destroy the wasteland when I'm in a suit of power armor shooting people with lasers

why does no one ever think of big weapons?
blowing s##t up and burning it at the same time beats the hell out of a pansy little light show

Did you:

Get the perk from Zimmer before killing him? Yeah, if you talk to Harkness first, get the Rifle from him then, see Zimmer and tell him about Harkness, he will give you the "Wired Reflexes" perk that increases VATS accuracy (I believe). Then you can kill Zimmer and his bodyguard. That's two rewards for the price of one!

If you didn't it's okay. I missed it on my first playthrough. I've just completed my third playthrough, this time including all 4 DLC expansions which I did not have before.

No I didn't do that.
I was thinking about it actually, after I was on my way to Zimmer because I thought I could taunt him a bit before killing him. It gave me the option to tell him but I didn't bother.
Also, I've done 3 playthroughs without the DLC. I have the 360 Fallout 3 but not the DLC, I have decided to buy the Game of the year edition on Steam which comes with all the DLC. Pretty excited for it.

Ol' painless isn't a hunting rilfe have you seen the China posters, it's their standard wep but it's weird they don't use it in operation ancorage than... but it still looks like a hunting rifle and they named it hunting rifle in fallout so it's accully the same thing. And i prefer small guns for the rest that read this post. And i like lincons repeater but backwater rifle kinda replaces it in point lookout.

I like the standard array of small guns. Pop up VATS, clicky clicky, and watch the fun begin.

Ahh, VATS...I wish Oblivion had something like that for bows and arrows!

Point Lookout is especially good (or at least for me it was due to size).

Zeta had some comedic moments and one EPIC battle against a ton of little aliens (don't want to spoil this any more than I already have).

Broken Steel is okay, but at the very least, is good due to level cap, new foes and ending adjustments.

Anchorage was kind of lame.
Yeah, I've heard Anchorage was just a 2 hour shoot-em'-up.

It's worse than that, it's 2 hours of dodgy small guns combat, which then gives you hideously overpowered equipment.

Pitt and Poit Lookout were great, both much better than the main game (although Lookout should have been on a lower power-level), Broken Steel was just an extension of the main game.

Mothership Zeta on the other hand was horrible in every concivable way.

Small guns is by far my favorite and most important skill. I love shooting my .50 caliber sniper rifle at Super Mutants a mile away.

I'm playing through at the moment. It's another straight up shooter except that some aliens have massivly inflated health and their weapons suck meaning combat has literally become me standing still clicking on the enemy and every so often using stimpacks to heal myself. The aliens themselves are well boring there's very little diversity in what you fight no interesting loot (except for a few items obtained by killing you're teammates) the dialogue and voice acting are up to Bethesdas usual standards (i.e. horrible). That's not talking about the raping of canon. Seriously you're better off not insalling it and then you can get the alien blaster without going through it.

And the worst part is it's even buggier than the main game.

Small guns: Huge variety, common drops/ammo.

The rest are to rare to be used often.

Well, I'm going to buy the GOTY edition for PC anyways. Might as well give it a shot.

It's worth it for The Pitt and Point Lookout, just don't activate Mothersip Zeta and you'll be fine.
