I didn't mean the world building stuff, I meant how people in Oblivion will talk about monsters in Morrowind or stuff like that.

But the thing is, in Fallout, you didn't have to save your vault/village. It was your quest but you could say bugger it, flip it off and walk into the sunset.

In Oblvion, there were certain people you couldn't kill, there were certain things you couldn't do, people leveled up with you. Fallout is the exact opposite. You can kill everyone. You could ruin the story set out for you. The game was basically made for you to play around with. You had enemies far greater then you that could eat you for lunch and others you could stomp on. You could basically talk your way through the game and not kill a single person.

So seeing Bethesda at the helm of a game that I and many fans adore feels like... well, what was mentioned above. Netendo taking over Halo 3.
I played the hell out of Fallout 1 and 2. Hundreds of times. But has bethesda said that your enemies will level up with you? No, actually, they said the opposite. As the article in one of my GI magazines informed me. You're free to explore...As to who you can (and or can't) kill, they haven't made any big deals about. But who knows? They might just produce something you like.

REMEMBER: Fable was promised to be the ultimate game (via text and articles, interviews, etc) But once it hit shelves, we realized it was different.

I understand it's human nature to pick out the negative. But maybe if we all just sit back on our asses for a few months, ***** about something else that's already out that we can legitimately complain about, and give Fallout 3 a try...we might find that all of our text and interview based criticism are a bit off of the actual mark.

I love you now.
If you love me then you'll bake me cookies.

I still have Fallout 3 reserved, and paid off. And I have no plans of altering that. Alongside Fable 2, and Gears of War 2. RE5 is a definite maybe...but...I'm still undecided there.

Until I play it, and kill everybody in it, I can't say much else. I'm just hoping to god it's nothing like Oblivion. You couldn't even choose a personality in it... it sort of forced you into who you were.
(Sigh) Fingers crossed I guess.

Also, let's hope Bethesda actually playtest this time around, so we don't get beggar NPCs suddenly speaking normally or vice versa.

It's Bethesda judging from their past works they have no idea how to make an RPG; it's beyond me why anyone has any hope for this game.

...because The Elder Scrolls series, despite faults, is still pretty damn fine?

Just a thought.

I personally hope that the NPCs are going to be much better in Fallout. The NPCs in Oblivion were really stupid and it basically just came down to you getting up close and personal and swing your sword as many times as you can while occasionally healing yourself.

I mean, Fallout 3 has guns so the enemy would have to use cover and stuff...right?

Do keep in mind that allot of people thought they were actively bad. For me, they were playable and fun (Morrowind more so than Oblivion. I'm the only person I know that actually finished the Morrowind main plotline) in spite of their overwhelming flaws , but damn fine? No.

I wouldn't bet money on it. It could happen, but both Morrowind and Oblivion had terrible AI, despite the 'Radiant AI' being a really big selling point in the pre-release marketing for Oblivion. They really need to get Monolith or GSC Gameworld's AI programmers to do some contract work for them.

After watching the new gameplay of Fallout 3, it has become apparent what a bad idea it was to make Oblivion and Fallout 3 on the same engine. They look almost the same from a graphical standpoint, which only furthers the idea that Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns. Otherwise the gameplay was pretty cool, I guess. They didn't really show much more than we already knew.

As for what's lost, humor isn't Bethsda's big selling point, what they do is turn stuff out on a massive scale, and in doing so have to please a broad audience to support their habits.
now that's a serious concern.. if Oblivion is any indicator of their comedic writing skills then this quote would be an indicator of what to expect, "Look at me! I'm a Kajhit! Watch me lick my own butt!"

yup...

lick my own butt... go Bethesda
Fallout was all about the popculture references and humour. I haven't seen either in any Elder Scroll game yet. Please prove me wrong.
why would i prove you wrong? i agree with you... didn't you read my post?

that worries me as well. from the footage they showed, enemies just ran towards you and in the demo the player just stood out in the open firing.

the lame thing for me in Oblivion right now is that my archery is up, my sword skills are down but the enemies have ramped up to the point where i can't just beat them with a sword... so to beat them i have to exploit the AI pathing and shoot from tough to reach places. and the more i kill the worse it gets due to the ramping AI.

you shouldn't have to exploit the bad AI in order to beat it. and i hope they actually put some effort into the Fallout AI because right now, they seem dumb.

Sorry, that was targetted at Bethesda not you. I was agreeing with you a hundred percent.

I finished Oblivion and liked the game. I didn't much care for the leveling system, but every game has it's flaws. I also liked Brotherhood of Steel though, so for all you Fallout fanboys below opinion is worthless.

From what i saw in the little footage available Bethesda seems to keep the setting of the original games and to a certain extent, the targetting system. Taking out the eye shots is a shame, the groin shot however is understandable. You can still shoot em in both places through free aim as far as i saw.
Nothing of dialog known yet, so i can only hope they'll do it right.
Graphics wise it seems fine, in tone with the setting, i actually like the first person view above the isometric as it immerses me more into the setting. Making a big point out of not being able to kill kids? Have you even read the news the past few years? Putting that in in the current political climate would surely lead to getting it banned all around.
Not being able to kill main questline people is a shame though, it seems too much 'idiot proofing' rather then a solid design decision.

Overall I'm excited to see this game after a decade of silence.

I finished Morrowind... it was kind of like, wtf is going on?!?! But I finished it.

Part of me HATED the journal in Morrowind, but another part really like the idea of just telling me the general location of things and walking around, exploring and finding them. I think my only complaint with Oblivion is that it was too flat,... it needed more above and below not in instanced dungeons.

Here's hoping Fallout 3 allows us to go up in those old buildings and take pot shots and nuclear sized rats for #*$&s and giggles.

Oblivion needed more variety, I think, especially in the locations. Thankfully, Fallout 3 seems set to be pretty diverse across the board, so that should be improved on.
