Probably the worst ending I've seen in a game. An ending should give you some sense of accomplishment and wrap up the story, bringing something new to the table.
All Fallout 3 did was summarize the events of the game.

Im part of the "Fallout New Vegas was better, and with unanimously better writing" club. Yeah, fallout 3 didn't have a lot of closure. It also didnt make sense that you could be selfish enough to destroy megaton, yet still go through all that trouble to activiate the water purifier, and how you pretty much were forced to kill yourself. You could argue that you could poison it too, but why would you go through all that just for teh lulz?

Once he traveled far enough to hear about the Mojave Express, he decided to register with them for a short while. The pay promised to be better than the favor gigs he'd been running on his way, which was great, since he was burning through his provisions twice as fast since he'd wandered into desert country.
Actually, I think it's been specifically confirmed somewhere that the Vault Dweller is not the Courier.

New Vegas killed what dignity and purpose Fallout had left. Nobody wants to see f***ing Las Vegas shimmering over the wasteland horizon. What kind of post-apocalypse experience is that?
The over-glamorous content just didnt fit in atal.

But it really did if you look at it. You completed project purity and helped to bring fresh water the the greated DC area. That was your fathers goal and once you met up with him again yours. The sense of accomplishment should come from the fact that you sacrificed yourself for the greater good. The ending of a game is supposed to wrap up all loose ends and conclude the story, which is exactly what fallout 3s ending did.
I can see your point, and if it worked for you, that's great (I know that may sound sarcastic but that's not my intention).
For me, though, I never got to see the impact of my sacrifice. It was all just assumed. I made the choice, died, and then it wet into this eulogy (which is a good way to put it, actually). It seemed abrupt and I felt it didn't offer me anything.
Imagine, if you will, Frodo dropping the ring into Mount Doom. As soon as he does it, it goes into an epilogue summarizing the events of the movies.
I'm not suggesting Fallout 3 should have had 5 consecutive endings but I'm sure you see my point. :p
