Is it just me or is anyone else wondering why it happens to be that only the dogs survive yet no cats?

It would be nice to have them tho, I mean, I do like the dogs. But why don't the cats mutate or evolve like the Yaoi Gui or the Deathclaw

Dogs are useful for hunting, shepherding, security and foraging. Cats are useful for vermin control.

Since the vermin is now bigger than people I think the cats are redundant.
Pretty much this. And/or they just didn't survive the explosions and radiation.

I love cats though, so I'd like to see them in the games.

After a bit of research Deathclaws are Chameleons but Centaurs might have some cats in them. The Vault also gives the explanation that they were hunted as easy prey so all died.

While it is a good question, I have a follow up question: Who cares? They're cats.

Oh I went there.

But why didn't the dogs die if the cats did
And come to think of it [Off Topic; Why is there only one dead cat in Bioshock?]

Pretty much this. They also said over time dog were mostly uneffected by the radiation. Cats are more of a pleasure thing, but with 200 years of ppl and animals struggling for food they were prob hunted to death like a lot of the other animals. Although it woulda been funny to have a giant mutant cat as a companion. Castle Crashers style!

In Fallout 2 theres a woman who talks about her dead cat and comments on how rare they are in the wasteland.

Guess they just didn't survive with rats and other things getting bigger.

Who wouldn't want to have a smart-talking three legged cat as a companion in a post-apocalyptic RPG game though?

I've always thought the Deathclaws was the evolution of the cat. Cats are known to be able to survive a lot of harsh terrain, so they should be about like the dogs, but they aren't and the Deathclaw is the only creature with a big question mark about its roots.

There's more than one, trust me you just have to look (you can even find a cat named "Scrödinger" in Bioshock 2, quite a cute little reference).

As for the original question, cats are quite small and easily huntable, I imagine anyone would rather have a good trusty dog on their side in the face of a nuclear holocaust than a cat. Though admittedly it would be nice to come across a Cuddles or two (if you don't get that you have no right to be on this website).

First thing after the nuclear apocalypse: Harold started a cat-kabob shop, supermutants liked it showed it to the master, and his secret plan was infact not world domination, but turning all the cats into kabobs.
