It wasn't Bethesda's writing actually, it was a company called "Black Isle," look it up, they made Fallouts 1 and 2, before Bethesda bought out Black Isle, and the rights of all Fallout materials, thus they made one of the best games ever made, with, in my opinion, the best writing I've seen in a game.

How am I lacking in reading comprehension? People have been getting confused about the time frame since before Interplay lost the franchise.
If you have to ask...

All they had were old records more than likely stored in Vaults when people left they took the records with them they didn't know how to make electric guitars and crap like that.

The apocalypse didn't happen in the fifties despite the impression given by Bethesda's pitiful writers.
They tell you several times when the nukes went off in FO3, and wasn't the 50s style created by Black Isle anyway?

I... think I heard somewhere that there is actually mention of a rock-kinda band in one of the Fallout games. I could be hallucinating, of course.

Its an alternate reality. imagine if the way things turned out, jazz didn't come around until right before the war. thats what happened.
This is about the only accurate answer. Guys they were not... listen WERE NOT.. in the vault since the 50s. Secondly, why the fuck would it matter if all the instruments were destroyed from the bombs? Three Dog is not playing those songs himself, they're recorded, you know, the way most people listen to music. Thirdly, Ok, yeah it might make since saying all of the other music was destroyed, but its never stated and its heavily implied that its fifties culture, not just fifties music. So, it'd make more sense to say, the music just started rolling around right before the bombs fell.

Finally, its neither Bethesda's nor Interplay's fault that most people believe that the bombs fell right after the fifties. Its the fucking peoples fault, dammit folks, if you wanna know something about the story, either pay attention or look it up. Don't just assume you know it.

People just continued recording different albums within the same genre up until the bombs fell. Other genres like rock were probably around; they just never caught on with mainstream radio, and the destruction of civilization had the dual effect of the destruction of indie music.

Yes but before the war, no new music?
If you listen 3 Dog mentions not knowing what a disk is. Nukes send out an EMP when they go off, wiping most media. The only thing that survived the nukes music-wise were LP's. Leaving you with only 1950's era music.
Hmmm, how convenient can you get?
LP's and CD's work differently. LP's would survive an EMP because of the way they store music, also it's completly plausable that they found a cache of them in a collectors house, all of them sealed in air tight packages, people don't do this to CD's. people who collect LP's do this to them.

I think the main reason to why they don't have any "new" (that is, after the "apocalypse") music is because... people had more important stuff to care about. Like, you know... Surviving?

And then the fact that pretty much everything was destroyed, likely including any facilities for mass-producing music of any kind. Not to talk about the fact that instruments seem to be a bit... Hard to get a hold of.

If you ask me, the reason to the old music is that they were the only records found intact/not too damaged to play.

How about YOU riddle me this since the 50's had racial segregation, and in fallout the USA's culture locked its self in the 50's was there still racial segregation in the fallout timeline?

Also like people already said EMPs ruined all the Justin Beiber albums I mean the Lady Gaga albums I mean all the J-POP.

Post Vietnam - They dont care so we should fight back (etc etc Woodstock etc etc)

So American culture is locked in the 50's idea of Jazz and the American Dream, i get that. BUT did they just decide that after the music of the 30's-50's that they didn't need to make anymore? Did NO ONE want to make anymore of it? Were the people of the 2070's fine with listening to music from over one hundred years ago over and over again?
Actually Three dog explains that thats the only music that really survived that could be scavanged. And he only plays that music because its uplifting and proably keeps thousands of people from killing themselves. Its that last spark of joy that keeps people going when the worlds gone to shit around them.

Yeah I don't think there is much explanation on how far fallout universe is linked to reality. I always felt that the retro-futuristic 50's vibe was mainly about the feel more than anything else.
