I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum.

Anyone else think that Fallout 3's good ending was a wall banger?

So you're asked to turn on the macguffin, problem is that it's surrounded by radiation thus giving you the chance to heroically sacrifice yourself for the good of all.

I like a good Jesus character as much as the next guy but...
1. What the heck happened to all the Rad-X and Radaway I have on my person? Coupled with my high medicine skill would make short work of ANY amount of radiation poisoning. Not to mention my advanced radiation suit, power armor, etc.
2. Ok, for whatever reason Rad-X and Radaway don't work (maybe it's super radiation. whatever) Why can't I just send my super mutant friend inside seeing as radiation doesn't bother them? Heck, to get the macguffin I had to enlist his help because of radiation. Don't tell me I'm THAT lawful stupid.

I just didn't like the ending because you had to reload a previous savepoint if you wanted to continue with that particular character. I enjoyed it in Oblivion when you can continue playing like nothing happened when you beat the main quest. I wish they did this in Fallout 3, since I had to make a new character to finish the side quests, since I saved the game right in the last room.

My roomie had the same problem...

What the hell? My supermutant companion is IMMUNE to Radiation, why the hell can't HE turn it on? All he says is not to try to prevent my destiny? What The Hell?

True. I will never understand why developers put points of no return in there games. It should have at least autosaved before entering the room, not after, and prevented saving in the last room.

I actually like that the game has an end. For me the game starts to drag on if the game continues after the main story, as I usually finish up every sidequest before. On my new character I'm level 13 before
You go talk to Three Dog about your dad.

Exactly, if they only did that, then I would almost deem the game perfect.

Heck I never even did the above mentioned Spoiler, and the story kept going.

Anyway, I thought the ending was good. After I've put 40 hours into a game, I'm OK with it ending.

i don't understannd the mutant friend bit. But this was my thought: THe game was frickin' awesome, and the ending was turning on some water. Lame ending.

Alright, I signed up to take a bite.
1. You remember when you got the all important macguffin that you likely sent Fawkes for?
I wanted him to do the job for me too, figured he'd be immune same as before, I think that big gun made him a wuss...
I wasn't expecting an actual -END-, so there was alot I hadn't done (No dog meat for one thing), but it gave me an opportunity to start over and be an evil prick instead of a goody-two-shoes. :D

I tried to get Fawkes, who is not affected by radiation to turn it on, and he just said, "No". That made no sense to me.

Why? The topic's blatantly about the Fallout 3 ending, if people don't want to read spoilers they should probably not click on the thread, don't you think?

I was surprised because I had only seen about twenty percent of the world so I didn't think it would end like it did.

It was a fun game but I agree that the ending is bogus. Still with the newly announced expansion-episode-DLC-whachamathingy I think the Big Surprise is that your character is Not Quite Dead after the ending. After all, Colonel Autumn made it out, so why not you? And why not Dad? In fact I'm guessing that the abrupt ending wasn't the planned ending, and that the DLC was meant to be part of the real game all along and either they cut it for time constraints or so that they could sell it to us later.

On another note, just who the hell was James anyway? He didn't come from the vault, he had extensive scientific training, he was pals with the Brotherhood of Steel... Hmm.

The ending was a kick in the balls, honestly.

I was, however, furious when, on my second playthrough, Fawkes refused to do it for me. Fuck destiny, I want to keep living in post apocalyptia!

As Yahtzee said.
"It was like having a really nice meal in a restaurant and then the chef comes out and farts in your face"
The ending put me off picking up the game again and made me look back at the days of endlessly clicking on pixellated faces to then watch it explode.
Fallout 1 and 2 were genius and i was very very upset about the ending of this one.
