yaaaaay! freak out! its hapeniiing!!

one thing people have speculated is weather or not the protagonist will be "voiced" personally I dismissed this as just something for the trailer

HOWEVER

http://kotaku.com/all-the-juicy-details-hidden-in-the-fallout-4-trailer-1708720494

this article from Kotaku (partcially near the end) shows us some leaked script thing from around 2013 or so...and you'll see if you read it and watch the trailer they match up

and a leak from reddit implying you can only be male in the main story
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/28v2dn/i_played_fallout_4/

so this actually makes me wonder if that's the case...kinda left of field for Bethesda

HOWEVER

I did see this floating around on reddit

http://i.imgur.com/2w6wYkK.png

which might imply we get a choice

I reeeeaaly hope that's ture because if I can't play as Furiosa from Mad Max I ain't playing

Also, players of the PS3/360 version will be pleased to know that Fallout 4 will be able to import your Fallout 3 save, and adapt choices you made from that game for Fallout 4.
This is when I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt he was full of shit. Bethesda games can barely hold themselves together remembering all the choices you've made in a single game, let alone two.

I'm assuming that this is just like the grunts and yelps when you get hit. Those have to be voiced.

Common sense tells me that Bethesda wouldn't make people play as a set character in one of their Open-World games after having the choice of gender and appearance after at least 3 other games.

As too that Reddit link, couldn't find(lazy) the kotaku one, there's A few reason I don't believe anything he/she says:

- Talks about PS3/360 version when we now know that won't happen.
- Mentions Vault 79 but not 111.
- Said it would be a E3 June reveal.
- 4 years development and only 40% complete?

Really, I just hope this person wrong, though my first character may be male I really hope I can make a sneaky female like I always do.

true but there is implication of the PC narrating something at some point

I doubt it. If only because that just isn't what Bethesda does.

They might have a voiced protagonist, but in that case they could just pull a Commander Shepard and hire an extra voice actor. Or five.

After all, it's not like they're short on resources, not after Skyrim sold to high heaven.

I'm very fine with a ME style voicing for characters, especially if it's accompanied with the ability to change your appearance like those games and I'm guessing that's likely how it will go, excluding having the moniker of a name like "Commander Shepard" to go by though.

I'll be severely disappointed if player customization isn't in this installment, even more so if they won't have a female option. All that hype would slowly melt to outrage if that's the case. Welp, we've got at most 11 days to wait to get more answers.

I know...its just that what I see in the trailer kinda seems to support that stuff I saw before

I mean granted that's old by now but...still

I imagine the "fallout" would be worse than the ubisoft fiasco

Personally, I wouldn't want a voiced protagonist. It's always incredibly awkward to me for a character I create to have a set voice. Since the voice they have is supposed to "represent" everyone, they typically use a voice that sounds very dull and monotonous. Silence is definitely preferable over that.

I'm guessing the character and voiceover shown in the trailer is someone you are following. Like an older sibling, significant other, or even a friend. Having a set protagonist would be a massive regression for Bethesda and I just don't see them doing that.

Honestly, I still hope the protagonist is silent. I prefer my Bethesda heroes silent.

Would Bethesda be dumb enough to do this?
Possibly.

Would Bethesda be dumb enough to do this after the public criticism of Fallout 3 and recent rise in certain controversy?
Doubtful, especially considering the public's expectations.

Basically, it is a possibility.
Personally, I don't believe much coming from Reddit these days, but it was posted eleven months ago, so it could be true. Yet eleven months is long enough to make changes.

That last link though, I hope that is the best possibility, again from Reddit, but it gives me something nice to believe in. Yet the voice acting makes me wonder, what will they voice act, surly not everything? That would feel a little weird to me.

Down to the point. Yes, I am hyped like many people, and I like what I saw ... But I ain't doing anything until I see from comes from the dark doors of E3. Naturally I have my anger points, for example, I swear if we can't customize our character, well not only that ... From the stuff on that Reddit article, I DO NOT want a set backstory. Can't I just be a eighteen to twenty something year old about to face the harsh wastes?! That is more immersive than any set backstory they can create.

(Note: In my opinion.)

I doubt it, character customization has been a major feature in the Fallout series since the very beginning and I see little reason Bethesda would decide to cut the feature now.

A voiced protagonist however seems like something that might be a possibility, with male/female voice options ala Mass Effect... though ideally I'd prefer something like Saints Row where there's a range of voice options for either gender, but seeing as Fallout is an rpg with a less linear script than the Saints Row series I can understand if that might not be feasible.

You are making me miss Liam Neeson more and more.
Seeing him in Fallout 3 was damn amazing, especially since I started to recognize the voice during my playthrough.

With what you said though, I could only agree. A set protagonist will only take away immersion from the player.
But, if I could choose my background like Dragon Age: Origins ... Well, that would certainly be interesting, depending.

Still, yeah, a silent protagonist is how I like it as well. Especially since you could count yourself as your own narrator/voice.
Shit, now I'm starting to worry a little. Let us hope that E3 will give us something good.

To be brutally honest, and personal preferences aside, I doubt it would matter all that much.

Yeah, there'd be a stink on the internet ("OMG, sexism, why no inclusion?!"). No doubt accompanied by a counter-stink ("Oh shut up SJWs, market forces!").

It would still sell like hot cakes. At this point Bethesda could fill the boxes with dogshit and still recoup their development costs just on pre-orders and early purchases.

I wasn't implying it would tangibly suffer in sales (I don't think Unity did...at least not because of that) just the internet buzz is all

It might imply a voiced protagonist, but I seriously doubt Bethesda would be as stupid as to make the protagonist set. "The dude" is always choosen to represent the protagonist in publicity material of a game that has character choice. It has been that way since the stone age.

Also, you can't play Furiosa since it's unlikely you have the choice to replace your left arm with car parts. Though it would actually get me excited for this game if you could.

I hope not. I'm waiting more information. I don't think it will be set, because that would be kinda dumb, and it never has been before. No sense in going backwards.

I can take or leave a voiced protagonist, but I do enjoy some character customisation, so I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Well, I... can't imagine that the development cost of dog shit is very high.

Must be hell to market, though.

Honestly it wouldn't bother me. I like customising characters, but on the other hand, I'm 20 hours in to Witcher 3 and its one of the best games I've ever played. Geralt can't be customised. One of my biggest complaints in New Vegas was that the main character was just an empty void. If Fallout 4 has an actual person to play, like Fallout 3 (although you could still customise appearance), that will be a good thing in my opinion. Its not like I'm going to see my character most of the time anyway, in first person perspective.
