This is exactly why I loved Fallout 3 so much more than New Vegas. It was amazing to explore DC in the game when I had also explored it in real life. Gave me a total sense of deja vu and really grounded me into that game. The most exciting thing about FO4 to me is that it has another real city to explore, one that I am also sort-of familiar with in real lifedyre said:Boston is waaaay less cool than DC imo (and I've been to both several times). What do they have that compares to the ruins of the Capital Building? Fenway Park? [footnote]incidentally, is Fenway a gathering point for supermutants in the game? Green monster and all that[/footnote]Of course I'll still buy the game and sink 200 hours into it, but there's no replacing the DC Wasteland in my book. And yes, I've played the first two games...assaulting an oil platform with Marcus was cool and all, but it doesn't beat assaulting the Jefferson Memorial with Liberty Prime.
I am confused why this the NMA community still exists...do they think that enough sour grapes will somehow result in the revival of Fallout Van Buren?BloatedGuppy said:Clearly you never spent time on No Mutants Allowed. When Fallout 3 was announced it was nothing but "Oblivion with Guns" scoffing from coast to coast among the die hard faithful from the first two titles.Johnisback said:I don't think the divide in the fanbase comes from new vs. old, it comes from Bethesda vs. Obsidian.
And yeah, other than Mask of the Betrayer, the last time Obsidian wrote a good story from start to finish was when they were called "Black Isle." And no, the restored KOTOR 2 ending is still disappointing!
How so? I try to stay away for his videos these days, he rather annoys me.inu-kun said:Seems to be okay, but the questions if it's not all hype.
The only notable review I could think on was the Jimquisition video, which while I love Jim, the video went full retard.
It's really amazing that this even needs to be said anymore. It's not like the issue that a 7 is a "bad" game is something new or a minor thing in gaming circles or anything. An anticipated game from a big studio is bound to get awesome scores unless it gives users the plague or something...at which point, they'll probably label it an 8/10.BloatedGuppy said:I think you'll find it's less a case of bribery and more a case of industry standards...driven by reader expectations...mandating scores in the 7-10 range for every major release, with games only falling to the 7-8 end of the scale if they are significantly flawed.
Personally, I can think of nothing that stops me from experiencing the atmosphere faster than slapping me in first person mode.Gethsemani said:While isometric view with description box might have some benefits, it is far, far better to just put the player in the middle of the world in first person view when it comes to atmosphere and world building.
In terms of gameplay I'd say; yes. But as a roleplaying experience I really miss the old style. Fallout New Vegas really brought that back for a large part though, and I must say I'm slightly disappointed that they ignored the advances (or rather, re-discoveries) made on that front.BloatedGuppy said:I played the originals. Both of em! When they were new!SlumlordThanatos said:Apparently I'm not a "true fan" of the series because I didn't play the originals.
The modern games are better.
What? No it didn't. All it said was "Fallout 4 included polyamory and didn't make a big deal out of it. And I like that." That's all what he said boiled down to. And y'know what; yeah that's pretty rad for people who are into that.inu-kun said:The only notable review I could think on was the Jimquisition video, which while I love Jim, the video went full retard.
Thats a bit far, I would say its more Fallout 3 with a couple bells and whistles. This removes alot of the things that made me love New Vegas even if it was a buggy messpookie101 said:played it for a few hours, apart from the odd physics glitch and corpses occasionally clipping through ground ive had absolutely no issues so far and its got a great intro, best one ive seen so far in a fallout game. its very much fallout new vegas with extra bells and whistles
building a settlement is fun but VERY fiddly
Wow! That sounds... pretty darn good. Developers everywhere must be cursing CD Projekt Red to the high heavens for the new standards they've set for open world gaming. It certainly looks like Bethesda's been taking their notes and have improved as a result. Characters without Bethesda face, a story I can actually get invested in, side quests that have real stories behind them...BloatedGuppy said:Thought this was a decent review:
This guy is usually pretty effusive/forgiving, so while it's definitely a critical review in places it's not going to put off anyone who wants to stay hyped.
I've been playing the old ones on my phone. They are very fun but obviously limited by the technology. Love the humor and the world building though!BloatedGuppy said:I played the originals.
