I for one would love to see a Fallout game set in northern europe. It doesn't fit the theme of the games, but tell me with a straight face you wouldn't want to play Fallout in the North.

Fallout 4 took place in The Mojave wasteland.

(Even though I really don't like New Vegas, I still call it Fallout 4)
I dunno, that kind of thinking could be dangerous. You'd have to count Fallout Tactics (3) and... ugh... Fallout Brotherhood of Steel (4). Then Fallout 3 would actually be Fallout 5. So really New Vegas would be Fallout 6. Stop the madness!

OT: As someone already said, America is kind of where it has to stay due to heavy Vault-Tec involvement in the Fallout story.

Have it set in China just after the nukes went off as one of the troopers in the expeditionary strike forces sent there after Anchorage. That`d be interesting.

It would have to be the US, but only if there is a badass British Merc thats been everywhere and can tell you about Europe. A setting that doesn't get tied up in 'The Cowboy Fantasy' because the lights and glamour of Vegas were ruined by the outlying settelments obsessed with corrals and cowboys. Soemthing in the middle of America. Have a few more settlements spread over the place including a number of vaults that were not experimental, most were not (a fact lost on Bethesda). A resurgence of raiders (New Vegas didnt have enough) to make a game about human survival and life.

Cut out the robots, make the security exclusively human in settlements, make them live in old houses (remember Big Town, it would have been a great settlement if all the houses had been occupied and had traders) have lots of NPCs and maybe some you can have a relationship with (will you be the guy with a girl in every town or do you just charm one person?) and make the perks that add conversation options like Black Widow and Lady Killer more apparent so orientation is a big part of personality.

Have about 10 settlements that have as much meaning as Megaton or Novac did, make each one have a few elements needed to survive but not all, some lacking sources of food and water, some lacking adequate defence, some lacking a future for the settlement. It's up to the player and their companions (who can be from outside the area or part of the settlements) to influence the future of the area. Maybe you will found a nation, maybe you will bring ruin to a hopeful land, maybe you will let things continue on their course.

The main quest could be about playing as a member of one of these settlements who has to hunt down someone who has comitted a crime upon your settlement. Are you a righteous lawman who wants to kill this person as a measure of justice or an evil stalker who relishes in the hunt and will kill anyone who gets in the way.

Ok that was a bit long, any thoughts?

I bet the corporations in fallout sold products outside the country, which could mean a lot of similar elements contrasted by differing environmental elements could make anywhere else in the world an interesting setting.

Though if it were to be in the US I'd like to see one done in the midwest, like maybe ranging from Milwaukee/Madison to the north, St. Louis to the south, Indianapolis to the east, and I dunno, somewhere in Iowa to the west, I think a map of that size would wind up feeling about the same size as the map from fallout 2, and provide a lot of variety between types of post-apocalyptic hellscape. The plot could be massive as it'd be a logical place for a standoff between tribal forces, Legion, both sides of the splintered brotherhood, and it'd be easy to imagine Enclave involvement there as well. You could easily create homebrew factions for the area as well. It could be awesome to play a fallout where there is no clear protagonistic faction, they all offer something at the cost of their ideology, can be allied with or played against each other, and all from the perspective of the wanderer who sees if someone doesn't do something, the tension between the forces will ultimately result in a massive 8 or so pronged war.
If this was taken down a really inventive road let the player try to engineer peace or war, alliances between factions, as well as cold war-esque black ops like concentrated strikes by "radicals," espionage, and sabotage between factions. But based on the players actions maybe there won't be a massive climactic war, or maybe there will and the factions will utterly obliterate each other, or a few will ally and win the war against the splintered ones, or whatever permutation could occur at that point. Gotta..Stop...Rambling...sorry.

Wherever it is, I'm hoping it's far, far away from the NCR. Doesn't need to be set back in D.C., just not anywhere near California. The NCR is boring as hell, and the further they expand, the more of the US becomes boring.

China would be very interesting, the only problem is that a lot of people (myself included) aren't all that familiar with their wartime propaganda.

There's still a lot of material to work with, though.

[sub]It will inevitably be set in the US.[/sub]

New York City. The player character's home vault could be under a subway station, and the ruins of the Empire State Building could be overrun with Feral Ghouls or Super Mutants.

OT: Hehheh, "Big Applesauce".

Fallout has yet to do America. There's so much of America to cover! Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Staten, and the northern wasteland. After so many games taking place in the Soviet Union we need a change of pace.

Florida, with hicks in one part of the map, resorts and retirement homes in another part of the map, an a tongue-in-cheek Disneyworld analogue. It could be about the Eastern Brotherhood, now evolved into a proper army and government a la the NCR, fighting against a huge collective of pirates based out of Cuba.

I don't think Fallout should cover areas outside of America. It's just not that kind of game.
Yeah. That basically would have been my idea. Nice touch with the Cuban pirates. Kudos.

I'd love to see a Fallout game based in England or New York or the like. The Commonwealth was referenced in 3, so it would be interesting to see one based there, maybe around a possible run away automatron like Harkness. For that matter, why not something in Arizona with the Legion? Perhaps based around a revolution against The Legion after a failed attempt to take the Mojave Wasteland.

Not sure where, but it's new year 2077. You're an ex-high-ranking employee of Vault Tec. The company were to have you killed but you escaped from detainment. It's your job to avoid Vault Tec agents that are after you, and get yourself into a vault before the October 23rd, by any means necessary. Through the course of the game you find out secrets about the war, and the world after it that happen in the other Fallout games.
