You know it's going to be a game designed for consoles with a shitty port to pc, premium mods and drm all over.
Yeah, it's pretty clear this game will mean a comeback for paid mods, whether or not they allow free mods alongside it remains to be seen.
not sure where this is coming from, considering fallout PC had one of the most extensive FREE first party modding tool kits ever.

Do you not remember the whole Skyrim paid mods debacle? The apology was also worded to make it sound like it will be coming back. Wouldn't surprise me if it resurfaced for Fallout 4 from the get go.

no, i remember. but i also remember how quickly it was shut down. paid mods, if they are ever a thing, are a long way down the road, and i really don't anticipate Fallout being the catalyst considering the franchise's first party support of the modding community.

Sadly neither Fallout 3 or even New Vegas, for all my love of Obsidian, really managed to hold my interest for long so hopefully this will change that. I do love me some post-apocalyptic wastelands.

If anybody is interested, there is some hidden error text on the page. It says

Access Error

PA system failure has occured.
Shutdown of the Masterbrain has been authorized and all sensitive materials have been removed for security purposes.
Please attempt re-access. Have a pleasant day.
And yes - "occurred" is indeed spelt wrong. I don't know if it's by accident or intent.

I've thought similar things, but Fallout is so steeped in Americana that changing to a different country would do more harm than good, IMO. The flavour is strong for "50's sci fi by way of apocalypse" and applying that to other countries would change it in ways that might be interesting, but definitely wouldn't be Fallout.
Oh yes, let's stick to the same old, stale setting instead of trying to spice it up with some new, interesting locales. So exciting! Especially if you're a non-American who's not all that in love with American culture, and one who'd like to see what the rest of the world looks like.
I'm not an American, though I do love me some retro-future, but if you think that the Fallout games are stale rehashes of the same setting you're insane. The difference between Fallout 3 and New Vegas in terms of tone, style, enemies, NPCs and factions, even the music, is massive- and that's games that use almost identical mechanics and engine. Sure, I'd love to muck around in Ottawa after the bombs fell and see what my city looks like, but that would be better done in a Gamma World game or my own Fallout tabletop experience, while the game that has 1950's America -in all it's diverse fears and promises- baked into it's soul can stick with that. If you don't think they could set a game in Chicago, or Miami, and have it come out new and interesting, then you severely underestimate Bethesda.

I'm betting on this being "We are announcing that! We are for serious, not working, at all on Fallout 4 right now...Kay well thanks for coming out."

If they clarify the details on -both- Fallout 4 and DOOM, I'm going to jizz myself to death.

I really hope we're given a proper Fallout 3, and not Oblivion with guns again. I've been waiting 17 years... 17 years for a proper, tactical, possibly isometric Fallout 2 successor.
It's likely we will get Skyrim with guns and further dumbing down of RPG elements, as well as a story that disregards established lore and canon, as it's Bethesda's MO.

Still, one day we may get one, with isometric RPG's making a comeback with the success of Wasteland 2 and the like.

T minus 4 hours. Oh boy, I'm riding the hype train already. Choo choo motherfuckers.

Not that we're surprised, because come on Fallout 3 and New Vegas did really well commercially and critically so it really was a matter of time before we'll see another. Well outside of...

Y'know what? I'm gonna miss GameBryo's antics.

Think you misinterpreted that tweet a bit eh. It's like "No it's okay, this epic screaming of joy is just business as normal."

It would have to be something pretty special to garner my interest. I finished Fallout 3 but it was a bit of a slog, if I was playing it new now I would just set it aside as im far less pig headed about completing games I dont enjoy just because I bought them. Never played the next one I wasnt exactly craving more.

Did they ever finish the Fallout MMO because if they didn't the timing might be right for that trash to come out and spoil the party?

The only legitimate complaint about New Vegas is that the radio in 3 was better.

Aside from that, hmm, don't know if I can get excited with Skyrim and Fallout 3 being quite shallow, and playing New Vegas and Witcher 3. Bethesda needs to step up its game to really compete.
I will probably get the game some time, but not at release.

Shouldn't it be Fallout 5? I've always wondered why some games/movies etc get numbers and others do not.

I want to be a snarky downer about Bethesda making Fallout 4, but...nah, I'll let the Fallout 3 fans have this.

After the backlash against New Vegas I'm worried this game is going to be as shallow as a paddling pool, much like Skyrim.
What backlash against New Vegas?

It took shit for being insanely buggy, and that criticism was merited. Other than that it was quite well loved, and is widely regarded as superior to FO3. It certainly never got pilloried for "depth".
Yeah, Obsidian, god bless their little hearts, releases buggy as fuck games, but generally it's easy to forgive them because usually they're pretty damn good too. Fallout: New Vegas definitely fit that mold.

Personally, it worked pretty "ok" for me at release, I didn't have as many issues as some other people did, that being said - it was the Fallout that I wish Fallout 3 had been. In my heart of hearts, I will always be an NCR Ranger - it felt good to be back in the desert.

It's funny but FO3 wasn't a bad game - actually I quite enjoyed it, but I can barely remember it compared to New Vegas.
