im not sure whether to say this in off topic or gaming discussion. But here goes.

So i was at the cinema watching the new transformers(which was surprisingly good). And in the ad for cowboys and aliens. with the thing strapped to his wrist i immediately though 'pipboy! holy shit fallout movie!' but no, it wasnt. So what do you think of the idea, horrible horrible idea that would ruin fond memories? Or an interesting setting for a movie?

If you want to watch a fallout movie look up A Boy and His Dog.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072730/

It replays on cable every once and again, and is awesome.

Edit: Wow, the people in the comments section agree with me.

The Book of Eli was basically a Fallout movie without the super mutants, and was actually pretty good to boot. It could work, but I don't know who I'd trust to do it.

That would be a pretty good movie I think...as long as Uwe Boll has nothing to do with it. I mean it has the story line to be a movie. Something vaguely based off of Fallout 3 could turn out nicely.

I read the synopsis and that movie sounds seriously freaked up.

If they base it on the lore in general but AVOID THE PLOT OF THE GAMES LIKE THE PLAGUE, it can be good. I'd go see it.

Actually, this isn't as hard as one might think.

You see, the main character can be anyone, REALLY anyone. Main characters in a Fallout game are designed so that they can be any attitude and any appearance, ergo casting and writing is made hella-easy.

What is IMPORTANT is that it needs to be a proper layout of post-apocalyptia AND of the tongue-in-cheek humor.

Good to see I'm not the only one who thought that was a Pip-Boy in the beginning.

OT: I would love to see a Fallout movie. As far as Video Game to Movie adaptions go, it would be one of the more plausible.

I have to say, I enjoyed the short story better, simply because it didn't drag as much as the movie. However, despite it having to drag out most scenes, A Boy and his Dog was the most odd movie i've seen in a Long time.

Anyone looking for something different should get this film.

How would you normally imagine living in a post-apocalyptic Nevada?

I won't say its a great movie, and there's certainly parts of it I do not like. It is, however, very different and well worth a watch.

Also, interesting to hear you say that Tieranus, and I don't doubt you are right. Of course most books win by default. I remember specifically reading I Am Legend before the movie and rightfully guessed after I finished that the movie would be a shadow of the book.

Also, what is the dog like in the book? I thought he was by far and away the best part of the movie. I dunno what exactly it was, but the dog's body language perfectly matched the voice.

Edit: Also, incidentally, the ending of this movie reminded me a lot of the ending of Portal 2. Another great game.

Tarantino is the only one i think who could make a Fallout Movie and it not be utter shit
Ron Perelman Would HAVE to be in it in some capacity or another

I think it could work, they just need to keep the main factions (Brotherhood of Steel, NCR, Gun Runners) decide if they want to keep with the first two games or the third and New Vegas. The main character could be a member of anyone of those factions or a Vault Dweller and have a basic goal that they need to fulfill to move the story along. The only problem is I don't know any studio that I would trust with the project.

And let's not forget the Mad Max series.

I like the idea, but I feel that it wouldn't garner a large enough audience because it's a game-to-movie release. The whole thing reminds me a lot of Watchmen's release. Hailed as a great movie, but still almost no one outside of the immediate demographic went and saw it.

I have to agree, Tarantino would be a nearly ideal choice for a Fallout movie, especially if he could team up with Peter Jackson.

Don't feed the Troll.

Ultratwinkle, buddy? Don't Troll.

OT: Yeah I can see a Fallout film working. I mean the important thing about Fallout is the WORLD, no the story, so they can't royally fuck it up like the Uncharted movies. As long as they have the atmosphere and "feel" of the world down? Sure.

There have certainly been a TON of awesome Fallout-inspired amateur films right?
