Fallout New Vegas almost best game ever?

I actually like Fallout 3 more than New Vegas even if New Vegas improved the gameplay a bit. It mostly comes from Capital Wasteland being a more interesting place than the Mojave Desert. But there were also quite a few little things: I miss Three Dog (or really any charismatic radio host to make the game feel a little less lonely) and, despite the games efforts, Caeser's Legion didn't come off as brutal as just plain raiders. Oh yeah, and I hate Vegas.

Edit: O hay, I'm not the only one who didn't care enough to finish it either. Here I thought that fans of the older Fallout games liked it way better than 3, just because. The amount of times it froze on me and all the bugs were just infuriating. This is coming from a guy who still isn't sure how he pissed off the entirety of Rivet City Marketplace, ending with Flak mini-nuking me to death. That doesn't bug me nearly as much as the Nightkin outside of Novac that won't die.

TBH I've loved all of the Fallout games, 3 was heaps of fun and I loved exploring the world and the story behind it, and Vegas was just as awesome because it reminded me of a New Reno and to me was well put together with all the different factions. Expanding on the Fallout universe without messing it all up too much. I didn't have much of any glitches tbh and everything ran pretty good and awesome. Joys of Computers I guess?

Either way, loved it. And if I could afford it, I would've got all the DLC too.

I really really enjoyed it. I wouldn't stop playing it, if only it would stop crashing every half-hour. Goddammit, it's why I still haven't finished it. I can't do more than a quest at a time before it crashes.

Fallout 3 was a much better game all around
How so? The writing was garbage. Honestly, whoever wrote most of the dialogue for Fallout 3 should be fired and replaced with someone who doesn't suck.

Were you playing it on PC or console? I'm playing it right now on PC, and I'm experiencing WAAAAAY fewer problems. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

Wish the areas in Dead Money were a bit more clear. Other than that and the occasional crash, not too big a deal.

Graphics: Nothing state of the art.
Voice Acting: Far too few actors. A few really memorable though.
Music: Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no original music.
Plots: Not in class with Planescape: Torment or Bioshock, but interesting enough to keep playing in one go.

Those are my thought about New Vegas. It's certainly not the best game ever, but with ALOT of bugs fixed could be really memorable.

Maybe not, but "Big Iron" is the best fucking song in any video game, ever.

You have clearly never played Fallout 2, since anyone who has wouldn't be caught dead claiming any of the New Fallout games are even in the same ballpark of "best game ever".
Oh sweet nostalgia goggles.

It just seemed to me like everything in New Vegas was done better in Fallout 3. Story, atmosphere, voice acting est. That's just me though.
Exactly. I tried to like New Vegas, I really did. Twice in fact. I played Fallout 3 to death and needed a fix of the atmosphere only Fallout could deliver. But the constant gun hopping out the top of my screen, and having to reopen the Pip menu everytime it froze while opening, killed the game's strongest aspect completely. Rendering it completely meh.

I actually played Fallout 1 and 2 after playing 3, and I think they are way better RPG's than 3 or New Vegas. Better games? Meh.

Not the best ever, but was really good. I enjoyed the story arc implemented about choosing which faction to go with, however, I did have my fair share of bugs, also the losing Karma every time I took an item from criminals trash can but could gun them down where they stand, ravage their corpse and not be penalized in any ways was odd. Struggled with companions wanting to leave all the time in the beginning, then I go and kill a base full of fiends and I turn into Jesus no matter what I do. Companions are also way too powerful, and my charisma is 1.
Overall I give it an 8, which is what I would give Fallout 3.

I can name several games i thought was better, both gameplay and Story-wise. The Baldur's Gate series and the original Deus Ex is two games that clearly spring to mind in that regard.

My biggest problem with Vegas (besides the occasional bugs that breaks immersion) is that the gameplay doesn't feel THAT satisfying, and that's always a thing that can ruin a (potentially) great game. Baldur's Gate and Deus Ex, for example, are both games where the gameplay is absolutely 100% rock solid (or rather, granite solid), but Vegas has a few problems, amongst others a slightly inconsistent difficulty curve, and the roleplaying doesn't get me quite satisfied either, and neither does the shooter part of the game.

All in all i definitely consider Vegas an above-average experience, but nothing more than that.

I enjoyed Fallout New Vegas but I couldn't say it was the best game ever. I beat the game once and after that, wasn't compelled to play it again - the ending was pretty lame by the way. Sure there were some impressive gameplay elements, the scenery was great, but it just lacked something I couldn't put my finger on. The bugs didn't bother me that much since I can forgive a few minor errors (like losing your companion on a mountain >_< ). It didn't help that I picked up Mass Effect 2 for PS3 shortly afterwards though. Maybe one day I may go back at it again.

Very few bugs for me, and I have 3 playthroughs so far.

The only one I found was companions who disappear, but go to vault 22 and use the elevator and they come back.

You're not very lucky it seems, my last playthrough was pestilence free. Apart from a few graphical glitches. And that one faceless guy in the Mormon Fort who kept trying to kill me.
^I have to agree with Bluff on this one.^
When i heard about bugs, i thought everyone was insane. I may have gotten on or two random crashes, but nothing like people were saying.

And the DLC's, oh my god. Some of the best ive ever played. I think Old World Blues is the one of the best buys ive ever made.

Almost the best game of the year? Definitely. But it will be passed by once Skyrim, and Saints Row 3 come out.

No. Even if you get past the glitches, it's a very unpolished, ugly game. Not to mention that the gunplay is terrible. Now I know that most people reading that last sentence are prepared to mash their keyboard to tell me that "it's an RPG," but what kind of excuse is that? Raising your guns skill doesn't do much to make the gameplay smoother, it only has a moderate effect on how much your scope sways when sniping and how much damage you do.

If New Vegas took a few notes from S.T.A.L.K.E.R, then I would be pleased. There is no reason given for why the Courier is such a badass. He/she can kill thousands of people, and all without suffering any mental trauma. And if you play a pacifist character, there's still no explanation given to why you have such immense ability in multiple fields that would normally take any person their whole life to master.

EDIT: There's also the issue of Vegas. That city is supposed to be the main attraction of the entire mojave, but once you get there, you find that there aren't actually many buildings (around ten, at most), and it feels almost like a ghost town. What few NPC's there are act completely static.

I very much enjoyed the game, but best game ever? Please.

I bought it during the steam sale, and have yet to encounter a bug in the 17 hours I've played so far. The framerate is kindof iffy at times though, which is annoying but bearable.

So I picked up the game pretty late (got it for like $15) and I've played through most the main story and just got my first piece of DLC last night.
I'm really tempted to say that this is one of the greatest games I've ever played..... too bad theres a bug around every goddamn corner. I see why the critics were so pissed off by it. The bugs not only forced me to replay things numerous times but they even F***ed up some of my missions (characters not being where they were supposed to/not letting me speak to them)
It really is a shame that this game came so close to being immortalized in my game collection (which it still might be) but just knowing how many bugs I'm going to run into on my next playthrough makes me just a bit annoyed. Anybody else got the New Vegas Blues?
Have you patched it to the latest version?
