Fallout: New Vegas, Cautious Optimism or Impending Doom?

I'm killing New Vegas because of its DRM! FO3 was not bad at all as it only had basic disk protection and required no serial (unless you are going on-line)!
by placing Steam on FO4 has shown that Bethesda are desperate to get into some hot DRM action.

well there are a lot of major titles coming out towards the of this year and the beginning of next so I'm dreading the fact that I'm not going to get a good nights sleep for a long time after that

I'm fairly certain if there was a 20 minute demo of New Vegas they would be able to show how much they've improved up Fallout 3.

That's probably not going to happen though.

Well here's hoping it just doesn't fall apart from the bugs of Bethesda's engine and Obsidian's work combined. It could just be Buggy McBug: The game. That said, if it's remotely playable I'm sure it'll be great. If they just make the animations a little less turgid I'd live in fallout 3, it's the one thing that kills immersions fast.

The old "plan for the worst hope for the best" saying applies here. But from what we have to go on it looks like it will be pretty good so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Ahem. I think the only other game I've ever looked forward to as much as I do New Vegas was Mass Effect 2.

I am optimistic mainly for the fact that it is still being overwatched by Bethesda and because some of the original creators are on board. I think the story will be much better because of this and just remember, did you ever buy a fallout game for the amazing graphics and effects? Hell no, you bought it for the fucking story!

Impending Doom. Why? Because I fell for the "hype" Every bit of leaked news, every article (re-read way too many times), frequenting every forum.

I've specifically withheld information pertaining to; plot (All I know and want to know is; I, Cole MacGrath, was left for dead and was rescued by Wall-E), key locations (I know that a vault has been turned into a casino, which is interesting), and other info that would spoil certain set pieces for me.
But let me get back to the "leaked news".

Remember how it was speculated that it would have origin stories? (Dragon Age) Playing as a ghoul, a CHINESE ghoul no less, effectively making you the most hated person in the wastes. Think of all the other possibilities - Raider, BoS, Enclave, Super Mutant, Slave. It's old news though, so either; it's going to be a surprise (fingers crossed!) or it's scraped entirely (reality). Remember the talk of vehicles? Yeah, unheard of since. I'm holding out for the announcement of sandstorms and other hazardous environmental features but I know I shouldn't.

You can say my expectations are high/astronomical even, the highest it's been since Killzone 2. And I know that it won't meet it, that makes me a sa-a-a-a-ad panda. At least I can take solace in the fact that Hardcore mode is exactly how a post-apocalyptic game should be all about - survival.

Just so you know, Fallout 3 was my Game of The Year... twice.
