Greetings, dear readers. I have a question for you.

I just recently acquired Fallout New Vegas and finished it not two hours ago
Very Good morality, sided with the NCR, preserved the Brotherhood, yada yada

I will likely pick it up for a second playthrough sometime soon. My question is this, dear reader: Is the DLC worth it? I didn?t buy it because I wanted a chance to play the game and then decide if I would invest more. I?ve heard people saying they loved the DLC, and some people saying they hated the DLC.

So, for all who played the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, my question is this: Would you recommend it?

EDIT: I have a balenced play-style focused on Guns, headshots, and speech.

Do what I did for Fallout 3. Wait for a version with them installed.

You mean like a GotY version? I won't be in town when that comes out. I'm kinda saying now or never.

Dead Money has a weird setting, but an interesting plot and nice writing.

Honest Hearts was mostly rubbish.

Old World Blues makes a new, interesting area to explore and has fantastic writing.

Come on, it's not never. I'm just figuring a Game of the Year edition will be better meshed together than patchwork installation. Just have a little patience.

I say go for it it provides an interesting sub-story and lots of great stuff like extended playtime, new perks, new weapons, new armor and moments to say "heh I see what you did there".

Gameplay-wise, Dead Money was awful. A failed attempt at survival horror that just got tedious. I haven't gotten any of the later DLC content.

I highly recommend Old World Blues and somewhat recommend Honest Hearts which I liked but not as many others seemed to. Dead money I would say is not worth it.

Yeah pretty much this exactly. I really didn't like Honest Hearts. It barely added anything new and really the only reason to get it is for the raise in level cap.

Dead Money had great characters, setting and story but difficult and challenging gameplay.

Honest Hearts had a very nice setting to explore, some good side stories, Joshua Graham and a very grey ending choice. However, the story just wasn't as interesting as Dead Money.

Old World Blues is a very unique settings with crazy and weird characters with great writing and a very wacky and over the top science fiction feel to it.

All of them add 5 levels to gain, new perks and Old World Blues has new traits too.

And of course, the Desert Ranger Armor.

Still, I don't think either of those things are worth money.

Dead Money was pretty good. It's a lot more skill based rather then combat based. It's not that scary, nor do I think that's what they were going for. It's just an interesting adventure that keeps you on edge as there are a lot of things that will kill you pretty quickly. Though it is one of those 'play through it once and that's enough' expansions, which isn't helped by the fact you can't go back once your done.

Honest Hearts is... pretty good. It adds a new open area, has some interesting characters, and has a lot of shooting. As well, it has a few interesting pieces and the ending is pretty nice as you have to choose between two different options that make it a hard decision.

Haven't gotten to Old World Blues, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I guess it depends on what you want. I think both are worth it, but it's different for each person. Dead Money was the better of the two I played though.

No they really are not. And I regret spending the money on it. I did quite like the other two though. Especially Old World Blues. That could be my favorite DLC ever.

By skill based to you mean more tactics? Or do you mean [Medicine], [Speech], [Science], and the like?

Because if it's the latter, I may be intrigued

Yes Dead Money had a lot of speech, medicine, science, perception and other checks. The game even recommends you wait until a higher level to play the DLC.

By Skill, I mean the skills like [Speech], [Science], and such. There are quite a few skill checks to pass, and they will effect your standing with your friends and allies. To quote the wiki:

The add-on focuses more on skills than combat, often placing you into speech, explosives, science, and barter checks that have a huge bearing on how companions will treat you.
It does also test your tactics a bit, as there are many areas that you take a lot of damage upon entering, meaning you have to plan your path and be careful. As I said, I thought it was an interesting addition to the game, though I can understand how some may not enjoy it. It also had the biggest tease at the end with something that was right in front of your face, but you couldn't actually take with you without glitches. For those wonderingreferringm refering to:

There are gold bars at the end of the story that you can take. They're worth over 10,000 caps each. The problem is, each weighs 35 pounds, and there are 37 of them. The fact you can't come back means dropping all of your equipment will mean it's gone for good, and some items can only be found there (and, as stated, you can't return once you're done). It'impossible impoossible to just slowly walk, as there is a bit of a time limit put on because of something.

The only one I played so far was Dead Money, and to put it simply, it is the Tomb of Horrors [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TombOfHorrors] for New Vegas. It is also a decent mystery/heist story, with some of the most interesting companion characters I've ever seen.

If that sounds good to you, check it out. Also, I'd really recommend not doing it at low levels, and make sure your sneak and unarmed/melee skills aren't terrible, they help a lot (though it is doable without them, I should think)
