If Fallout: New Vegas has the gameplay similar to Fallout 3, it's all I need to know.

but frankly, I'm not gonna go for any other game until I get my hands on Mass Effect 2, New Vegas is second on my list.

I know you don't want to buy the first two, but they're dirt cheap on Steam and well worth getting.

The next game is being made by members of the original team so there will be a lot of references to Fallout 1 and 2 which you just won't get unless you've played the originals.
Or I can use the wiki to look up some certain things.
I'm talking about little in-jokes, place names, character dialogue... Wiki isn't going to tell you every reference in the game.

Why is it you don't want to play the first two?
Actually, the wiki does. That's the scary thing.
Perhaps, but honestly that's not going to be as satisfying as finding them yourself in the game.

Best suggestion on the thread. Nothing inspired Fallout than Mad max.

Play Oblivon or Morrowind for a while, then play New Vegas as you wait or TES:5 to come out.

Play 1 and 2. Nah I'm just kidding. Well, I like to download LOTS of mods from the Nexus site and try them out. I end up going overboard because there are thousands of them >.<

How to wait for New Vegas the easy way:

Every week, set aside $2. By the time the game comes out you'll be ready for it. And as you watch that little kitty you've set aside grow, the bigger it gets, the closer you'll be to the game's launch!

Just don't raid it to buy nachos.

Go to an Empty building/Desert with limited supply of Water and a shitty gun and attack any creatures while shouting about the End of Mankind.

I have a friend who is a VIP at EB games or something, and that they have given him a prerelease copy of Fallout:new vagas because they love him so huggy-muggy-much and that hes going to lend it to me, though I have a sneaking suspicion
that hes bullshiting me.
I'm pretty sure a "Pre Release Copy" wouldn't just be "lended" to anyone..I have a definite suspicion he is bullshitting you.

Collect bottlecaps. Try to get a dufflebag full of them.

When the day finally comes, attempt to pay for the game with them.

Laugh your ass off with the GameStop attendant.

But then for seriously buy the game with real money.

Or you can buy them on gog.com for $4 cheaper per game, without having to load another program or any other stupid DRM, and get actual support and even extras like wallpapers and soundtracks... hmm...

Nice!

You can't fully appreciate Fallout without at least watching some of the source material first.

I'm still waiting for them to bring the Thunderdome into Fallout. Vegas would be a perfect place for it.

pfff you're not worthy of Fallout... if you don't play the 2 first ones, you will certainly won't understand many of the tidbits of the evolution of the factions, or of specific characters...

well, there's always the Let's Play videos in Youtube lol.

check out www.nma-fallout.com for many informations about the stuff Obsidian is adding...
^Very true, fallout 3 is a joke compared to these masterpieces.

Soundtracks? Really? That's awesome. And yeah the DRM sucks.

You'll have to pardon me, but you know, having a family, working upwards of 70 hours a week and having a life outside of video games does tend to put one behind the information curve. Had I heard of New Vegas? Yes, but had not heard it was a stand alone game.
