The only bugs I've seen recently where a few crashes and NPS's sitting next to their chair instead of on it.

And then there's that one quest with the bomb on the monorail that you can't seem to finish well regardless.

Definitely get it, it's one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time. It's refreshing to actually be given some choice in how you play the game compared to the railroading in Fallout 3.
In before someone says that New Vegas does just as much railroading as 3, when it comes to the deathclaws at the beginning of the game. Most people don't know what kind of railroading you are referring to.
When I say railroading in Fallout 3 I mean things like having to work for the Brotherhood even though I thought they were idiots, having to fight the Enclave no matter what, having to find my dad and having to work with Doctor Li and her crew on Project Purity.

Fallout: New Vegas lets you choose who you side with and how you want to go about doing things in regards to other tribes and factions throughout the Wasteland, whereas in Fallout 3 the end result is always the same.

Oh yeah, I know and agree completely. I'm just saying last time I brought up railorading in 3, people kept on going on about the deathclaws, etc. and it got annoying. Playing an evil character in 3 and helping the Brotherhood made no sense. Why did they need you? Why would they help you if you're evil? It just didn't make sense at all.

Your mileage may vary when it comes to bugs. I think that the Playstation 3 version is probably the buggiest. Because I play it on the Playstation 3 most of the time, and it occasionally crashes. Not as often as it used to (I got it on the release date, and my first freeze that required a hard-reset was after about three or four hours, and I'd get them every three or four hours or so), but I've been still getting them now and then. The framerate occasionally slows to an unplayable degree, requiring a reset. Especially in some of the densely populated areas. Although my current playthrough has been going on for 86 hours (and counting), and the save file is 13MB so that might be something to do with it.

I will say, however, that the PS3 version of New Vegas is a vast, vast improvement on the DLC for Fallout 3, which crashed constantly.

On the PC, I've had some CTDs, but then my gaming PC technically doesn't meet the minimum requirements and I have to run it at 640x400. The PC is obviously harder to judge as far as crashes and bugs go - some people claim to have never suffered a single crash, whereas others crash constantly.

The crashes and occasional bugs and glitches can be annoying at times (and some of the bugs can be somewhat horrifying, like the spinning head thing that I got earlier today), but I still think it's worth it. But I would say that because I personally think it's the best game released in the past five or six years.

I just snuck by them over the mountains and went straight to the strip

so it's not a concrete railroad

edit: But 1 thing that almost totally ruined the game for me . . . those goddamn invisible walls on any kind of sloping surface

amirite?
There is an area right by Hidden Valley called Scorpion Gulch, that if you can run past the Giant Scorpions (who are very slow) you can make it to Vegas in about an hour of playtime, if you're speed running. I'd love to try a speedrun of New Vegas, come to think of it.

The invisible walls were annoying, yeah. Most prominently in the areas around the deathclaws.

The game is very bugged. There are bugs that might ruin your savegames, there are bugs that might make a mission unplayable, there are 101 lesser bugs all over the place. And yes. It is 100% worth it. The game is that good.

A few questions about this.
I keep hearing different stories about the bugs. Some say that the bugs completely ruin the game but others say that they are only a minor hindrance. I've heard some people say that they never got any, and some saying that most of the major bugs are patched by now.
If I were to buy the game now, what would be its status and would it be worth it?
Yeah it's worth it,I got the PS3 version for $40 I think from a Blockbuster that was liquidating all their stuff along with Bayonetta for $10. But here is a tip,NEVER TELL REX TO GO TO THE LUCKY 38:He will not be there until an eternity passes. (Or in my case, when I finished the Old World Blues DLC) It may freeze sometimes too.

IF you can, get the PC version, if theres a bug, theres a mod that fixes it.

Yes.

Reason: Proper storytelling + freedom of choice + fallout atmosphere. (+optional mods on PC)

I personally found no major bugs for about 4 playthroughs although crashes after about 3 hours are technically bugs. Don't much care about those, since they are good stopping points to not lose the whole night of sleep.

Anyways: Yes, it's that good.

My bro got this for Christmas last year. He absolutely loved it, but I prefer Fallout3. Anyway, after much badgering from him, I finally played. I got stuck in a mountain within about 20 minutes. I loaded, got stuck in a another. And another, and another, and another, and another...

personally i loved/love the game to death, and am on my 3rd playthrough as of right now (with teh DLC added in this time, which is great stuff)

the autosave function is very handy and basically anytime you fast travel or enter a new area it auto saves so even in the off chance that you didn't do your own save recently (which i do save alot as is, no point in not saving a bunch) then you have that to rely on in case it freezes/crashes

i've only had two crashes in this play through, which i am running 15 mods with the DLC so i'm quite pleased that it's run this well so far, one time it was because my added companion willow got stuck in a graphic that wasn't really "there", and when an enemy popped out i fell into it with her and that froze up there, and the other time i hadn't been in that area before so it just happened to freeze when i tried entering it, otherwise it's been smooth sailing of awesomeness

New Vegas is the all-around better game.

Better writing, better characters, better quests, and a much more entertaining story coupled with endings that actually make you pause and think for a second.

NV felt more in-tune with the traditional Fallout titles: it's back out West, The Brotherhood of Steel aren't the paragons of virtue that they were in Fallout 3, and you're constantly at a battle with the Wasteland as opposed to turning into an unstoppable demi-god halfway through the storyline.

And provided you're playing on the PC[footnote]God help you if you're playing on anything else[/footnote], here are some mods that will greatly enhance the longevity of the Mojave/make it a better experience:

None of the bugs I had particularly ruined my experience with it, most of them were just crashes every 4 or 5 hours, so I just remember to keep auto save on so I don't lose anything. There was one that was a bit annoying, I had to get an item from a dead body, but it had sort of sunk into the road and I couldn't loot it. Nothing that a reload didn't fix though. Some are quite funny, I once shot at a Deathclaw early on, and it jut shot up into the sky, never to be seen again. Probably saved my life. Was funny watching my companion just standing there shooting at the sky for 5 minutes :D
Haven't had a single crash or bug since the latest update, I might just be one of the lucky ones though.

Long story short: Try to ignore the bugs, if you're lucky, they'll be minor. Definitely worth it.

most the bugs will be gone but i reckon that fallout 3 game of the year edition would be more worth your money not much has changed from fallout 3 and new Vegas and that edition is good because it comes with all the expansion packs from fallout 3 however if yo have already got it get new Vegas if you can put up with some little bugs as most are patched by now i recommend it

F:NV is very hit and miss.

It is a buggy game but sometimes you can go a day without it being an issue.

If you have it on PC then there are a lot of user made patches to correct a lot of the bugs, other than that it's entirely up to you.

I've yet to encounter any 'game breaking' bugs (Although the possibility is there with the small glitches I've had with non-important NPCs)

The game itself is pretty great, I liked Fallout 3 but i absolutely LOVE New Vegas, lotsa small snippets to the old Fallout Games (You meet a singer from Fallout 2, the pilot who crashed the vertibird in your home village in Fallout 2 and a lot more)

The 'Wacky Wasteland' trait gives you plenty of silly moments and the DLC is pretty good (Old World Blues is fantastic)

So yes, I'd say its worth it, just save manually from time to time and quicksave a lot.. just in case, one of the bugs I had was that corpses sped off into space...really, knocked someone down, they'd twitch a bit and then fly off into the horizon, could happen to some important NPC but havent happened yet in my case.

I think alot of the bugs have been fixed, but even when I started playing and ran into them, they were not enough to detract from the game for me at all. I dont think its a game you want to pass up. I am currently back in the New Vegas world playing Old World Blues, and its awesome!
